Book Water Pollution Control in Asia

Download or read book Water Pollution Control in Asia written by T. Panswad and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2016-01-21 with total page 749 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Water Pollution Control in Asia documents the proceedings of the Second IAWPRC Asian Conference on Water Pollution Control, held in Bangkok, Thailand, 9-11 November 1988. The conference brings together the various factors that must be considered when investigating the development of water supply and control of sewage disposal systems, especially for small villages or towns and large communities in Asia which are situated too far from a piped system of water supply, thus requiring its own sources treatment and sewage disposal. The contributions made by researchers at the conference are organized into seven parts. Part 1 examines the various aspects of water quality management. The papers in Part 2 deal with the analysis and cleanup of river, lake, and marine pollution. Part 3 discusses the treatment of human waste while Part 4 is devoted to industrial waste treatment approaches. Part 5 focuses on water treatment methods. Part 6 contains studies on water reuse and groundwater contamination. The papers in Part 7 cover various topics such as wastewater management in developing countries and the treatment of phenolic wastewater using rotating biological contactors.

Book excerpt: This open-access book addresses latest Sino-German results of the joint research efforts within Major Water Program of the Chinese Government supported by German research funding. The Major Water Program aims at the restoration of polluted water environments and sustainable management of water resources in China. The joint BMBF-CLIENT project SINOWATER deals with three most significant and strongest polluted Chinese waters, the river Liao and the Dian-lake as well as Tai-lake in the area of the metropolises Shenyang, Kunming and Suzhou, respectively. The project was conducted by the Research Institute for Water and Waste Management at RWTH Aachen (FiW) e.V., Bavarian State Ministry of the Environment and Consumer Protection, Technical University of Munich, RWTH Aachen University, German and Chinese companies (Martin Membrane Systems AG, Steinhardt GmbH Wassertechnik, GuHong, JT-elektronik, bluemetric, Huawang Water, EVU Group, Atemis GmbH, i+f process GmbH) in close cooperation with Chinese Academy of Environmental Sciences, Tongji University, and the Dianchi Lake Management Authorities. Overall, the joint Sino-German research project SINOWATER provided solutions for the improvement of the water quality in the mentioned water bodies as well as development and optimization of Good Water Governance. These objectives could be achieved through the implementation of innovative German water technologies and the optimization of water management elements in the fields of industrial and municipal wastewater treatment as well as river and shallow lake management.

Book Southeast Asian Water Environment 1

Download or read book Southeast Asian Water Environment 1 written by S. Ohgaki and published by IWA Publishing. This book was released on 2005-12-01 with total page 270 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Southeast Asia has undergone rapid commercial and industrial development over the past half century, which continues to bring economic stability and prosperity to its inhabitants. The combined impacts of population growth, urbanization, and industrialization continue to put pressure on the natural resources and the environment. At the same time, globalization is another momentous challenge for the region. Southeast Asian megacities are some of the most dynamic and diverse regions, which are playing a key role in achieving global sustainability. Twelve out of nineteen megacities of the world are located in the region, where highly developed areas coexist with poorly developing areas where large economic growth is expected. The poor quality of the living standards of the latter creates many environmental problems that are major threats to the inhabitants of the region. The Southeast Asian environment has been degraded by the release of industrial and domestic wastes, agricultural and aquacultural chemicals, and pollutants from automobiles. It suffers from water-related disasters, Tsunami, floods, typhoons, etc. In order to deal with these issues an integrated approach from the inhibitants, governments and researchers is essential. The environmental threats arising from the increasing population, overuse of natural resources, industrialization, urbanization, and natural disasters present ever increasing challenges to pursuing sustainable development of the region. Many developed countries such as Japan have experiences of dealing with severe environmental pollution and this publication is the result of building an academic network among researchers of related fields from different regions to exchange information. This book will be an invaluable source of information for all those concerned with achieving global sustainability within the water environment in developing regions, including researchers, policy makers, NGOs and NPOs.

This book was released on 2016-10-01 with total page 87 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Although accounting for about 20% of the global population, the People’s Republic of China (PRC) is endowed with only 7% of the world’s water resources. The country faces severe water scarcity, high levels of urbanization and population growth, and climate change. For the PRC’s continuing development, it must protect and develop its freshwater resources. This publication provides recommended policy initiatives to ensure the PRC’s 13th Five-Year Plan (2016–2020) contributes to significant improvements in national water security, particularly in extreme water-scarce provinces. Some actions proposed for increased water security are better water resources management, more cross-sector planning, deeper reform of the water pricing system, and creation of water markets.
