The book combines theoretical discussions with practical examples, allowing readers to design high-efficiency RF and microwave power amplifiers on different types of bipolar and field-effect transistors, design any type of high-efficiency switchmode power amplifiers operating in Class D or E at lower frequencies and in Class E or F and their subclasses at microwave frequencies with specified output power, also providing techniques on how to design multiband and broadband Doherty amplifiers using different bandwidth extension techniques and implementation technologies. This book provides the necessary information to understand the theory and practical implementation of load-network design techniques based on lumped and transmission-line elements. It brings a unique focus on switchmode RF and microwave power amplifiers that are widely used in cellular/wireless, satellite and radar communication systems which offer major power consumption savings. - Provides a complete history of high-efficiency Class E and Class F techniques - Presents a new chapter on Class E with shunt capacitance and shunt filter to simplify the design of high-efficiency power amplifier with broader frequency bandwidths - Covers different Doherty architectures, including integrated and monolithic implementations, which are and will be, used in modern communication systems to save power consumption and to reduce size and costs - Includes extended coverage of multiband and broadband Doherty amplifiers with different frequency ranges and output powers using different bandwidth extension techniques - Balances theory with practical implementation, avoiding a cookbook approach and enabling engineers to develop better designs, including hybrid, integrated and monolithic implementations
Download or read book Multiresonator Based Chipless RFID written by Stevan Preradovic and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-01-07 with total page 189 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This vital new resource offers engineers and researchers a window on important new technology that will supersede the barcode and is destined to change the face of logistics and product data handling. In the last two decades, radio-frequency identification has grown fast, with accelerated take-up of RFID into the mainstream through its adoption by key users such as Wal-Mart, K-Mart and the US Department of Defense. RFID has many potential applications due to its flexibility, capability to operate out of line of sight, and its high data-carrying capacity. Yet despite optimistic projections of a market worth $25 billion by 2018, potential users are concerned about costs and investment returns. Clearly demonstrating the need for a fully printable chipless RFID tag as well as a powerful and efficient reader to assimilate the tag’s data, this book moves on to describe both. Introducing the general concepts in the field including technical data, it then describes how a chipless RFID tag can be made using a planar disc-loaded monopole antenna and an asymmetrical coupled spiral multi-resonator. The tag encodes data via the “spectral signature” technique and is now in its third-generation version with an ultra-wide band (UWB) reader operating at between 5 and 10.7GHz.

Download or read book Meta Smith Charts and Their Applications written by Danai Torrungrueng and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-06-01 with total page 98 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents the developments and potential applications of Meta-Smith charts, which can be applied to practical and useful transmission line problems (e.g., metamaterial transmission lines and nonreciprocal transmission lines). These problems are beyond the capability of the standard Smith chart to be applied effectively. As any RF engineer is aware, a key property of the Smith chart is the insight it provides, even in very complex design processes. Like the Smith chart, Meta-Smith charts provide a useful way of visualizing transmission line phenomena. They provide useful physical insight, and they can also assist in solving related problems effectively. This book can be used as a companion guide in studying Microwave Engineering for senior undergraduate students as well as for graduate students. It is also recommended for researchers in the RF community, especially those working with periodic transmission line structures and metamaterial transmission lines. Problems are also provided at the end of each chapter for readers to gain a better understanding of material presented in this book. Table of Contents: Essential Transmission Line Theory / Theory of CCITLs / Theory of BCITLs / Meta-Smith Charts for CCITLs and BCITLs / Applications of Meta-Smith Charts
Download or read book Advanced Materials and Technologies for Micro Nano Devices Sensors and Actuators written by Evgeni Gusev and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2010-03-15 with total page 310 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A NATO Advanced Research Workshop (ARW) entitled “Advanced Materials and Technologies for Micro/Nano Devices, Sensors and Actuators” was held in St. Petersburg, Russia, from June 29 to July 2, 2009. The main goal of the Workshop was to examine (at a fundamental level) the very complex scientific issues that pertain to the use of micro- and nano-electromechanical systems (MEMS and NEMS), devices and technologies in next generation commercial and defen- related applications. Micro- and nano-electromechanical systems represent rather broad and diverse technological areas, such as optical systems (micromirrors, waveguides, optical sensors, integrated subsystems), life sciences and lab equipment (micropumps, membranes, lab-on-chip, membranes, microfluidics), sensors (bio-sensors, chemical sensors, gas-phase sensors, sensors integrated with electronics) and RF applications for signal transmission (variable capacitors, tunable filters and antennas, switches, resonators). From a scientific viewpoint, this is a very multi-disciplinary field, including micro- and nano-mechanics (such as stresses in structural materials), electronic effects (e. g. charge transfer), general electrostatics, materials science, surface chemistry, interface science, (nano)tribology, and optics. It is obvious that in order to overcome the problems surrounding next-generation MEMS/NEMS devices and applications it is necessary to tackle them from different angles: theoreticians need to speak with mechanical engineers, and device engineers and modelers to listen to surface physicists. It was therefore one of the main objectives of the workshop to bring together a multidisciplinary team of distinguished researchers.
