Download or read book Asherah the Queen of Heaven written by Baal Kadmon and published by Createspace Independent Publishing Platform. This book was released on 2017-07-21 with total page 68 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A few books exist on Asherah so I am going to jump in and add my two cents. I found the others to be rather complex. I will do my best to deconstruct it all in this book, but for the sake of brevity I can't go too deep. Like all my books, I will cover the texts and history. I have many old notes that I will clean up and present here. We will discuss Asherah's wide-ranging presence from Akkadian sources all the way through Arabian ones and a few more. We will start with the Old Testament sources first since that is essentially what put her on the map of Intellectual history so to speak. We will also learn more about ways to call upon her and tap into her ancient power. She is, after all, the divine consort of God, the Queen of the Heaven. In this book, we will be calling upon Asherah for the following: 1. We will call upon her to vanquish our enemies. 2. We will Use Her to Attain Love. 3. To Gain Seductive Powers 4. We Will Call Upon Her For Abundance. 5. We Will Call Upon Her For Healing.

Book Yahweh and the Gods and Goddesses of Canaan

Download or read book Yahweh and the Gods and Goddesses of Canaan written by John Day and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2010-06-15 with total page 289 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This masterly book is the climax of over twenty-five years of study of the impact of Canaanite religion and mythology on ancient Israel and the Old Testament. It is John Day's magnum opus in which he sets forth all his main arguments and conclusions on the subject. The work considers in detail the relationship between Yahweh and the various gods and goddesses of Canaan, including the leading gods El and Baal, the great goddesses (Asherah, Astarte and Anat), astral deities (Sun, Moon and Lucifer), and underworld deities (Mot, Resheph, Molech and the Rephaim). Day assesses both what Yahwism assimilated from these deities and what it came to reject. More generally he discusses the impact of Canaanite polytheism on ancient Israel and how monotheism was eventually achieved.

Book The Cult of Asherah in Ancient Israel and Judah

Download or read book The Cult of Asherah in Ancient Israel and Judah written by Judith M. Hadley and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2000-06-09 with total page 288 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Recent archaeological discoveries have encouraged scholars to reinvestigate the Israelite religion. In this book, Judith Hadley uses these discoveries, alongside biblical material and non-biblical inscriptions, to examine the evidence for the worship of Asherah as the partner of God in the Bible. By investigating the Khirbet al-Qom and Kuntillet 'Ajrud inscriptions, for example, where the phrase 'Yahweh and his Asherah' is frequently in evidence, the author asks what the ancient Israelites meant by this, how they construed the relationship between Yahweh and Asherah, and whether in fact the term actually referred to an object of worship rather than to a goddess. The author also evaluates more recent scholarship to substantiate her conclusions. This is a detailed and brilliant study which promises to make a significant contribution to the ongoing debate about the exact nature of Asherah and her significance in pre-exilic Israel and Judah.

Book This Is My Doctrine The Development of Mormon Theology

Download or read book This Is My Doctrine The Development of Mormon Theology written by Charles R. Harrell and published by Greg Kofford Books. This book was released on 2011-08-05 with total page 598 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The principal doctrines defining Mormonism today often bear little resemblance to those it started out with in the early 1830s. This book shows that these doctrines did not originate in a vacuum but were rather prompted and informed by the religious culture from which Mormonism arose. Early Mormons, like their early Christian and even earlier Israelite predecessors, brought with them their own varied culturally conditioned theological presuppositions (a process of convergence) and only later acquired a more distinctive theological outlook (a process of differentiation). In this first-of-its-kind comprehensive treatment of the development of Mormon theology, Charles Harrell traces the history of Latter-day Saint doctrines from the times of the Old Testament to the present. He describes how Mormonism has carried on the tradition of the biblical authors, early Christians, and later Protestants in reinterpreting scripture to accommodate new theological ideas while attempting to uphold the integrity and authority of the scriptures. In the process, he probes three questions: How did Mormon doctrines develop? What are the scriptural underpinnings of these doctrines? And what do critical scholars make of these same scriptures? In this enlightening study, Harrell systematically peels back the doctrinal accretions of time to provide a fresh new look at Mormon theology. “This Is My Doctrine” will provide those already versed in Mormonism’s theological tradition with a new and richer perspective of Mormon theology. Those unacquainted with Mormonism will gain an appreciation for how Mormon theology fits into the larger Jewish and Christian theological traditions.

Book When God Had a Wife

Download or read book When God Had a Wife written by Lynn Picknett and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2019-12-10 with total page 430 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Reveals the tradition of goddess worship in early Judaism and how Jesus attempted to restore the feminine side of the faith • Provides historical and archaeological evidence for an earlier form of Hebrew worship with both male and female gods, including a 20th-century discovery of a Hebrew temple dedicated to both Yahweh and the warrior goddess Anat • Explores the Hebrew pantheon of goddesses, including Yahweh’s wife, Asherah, goddess of fertility and childbirth • Shows how both Jesus and his great rival Simon Magus were attempting to restore the ancient, goddess-worshipping religion of the Israelites Despite what Jews and Christians--and indeed most people--believe, the ancient Israelites venerated several deities besides the Old Testament god Yahweh, including the goddess Asherah, Yahweh’s wife, who was worshipped openly in the Jerusalem Temple. After the reforms of King Josiah and Prophet Jeremiah, the religion recognized Yahweh alone, and history was rewritten to make it appear that it had always been that way. The worship of Asherah and other goddesses was now heresy, and so the status of women was downgraded and they were blamed for God’s wrath. However, as Lynn Picknett and Clive Prince reveal, the spiritual legacy of the Jewish goddesses and the Sacred Feminine lives on. Drawing on historical research, they examine how goddess worship thrived in early Judaism and included a pantheon of goddesses. They share new evidence for an earlier form of Hebrew worship that prayed to both male and female gods, including a 20th-century archaeological discovery of a Hebrew temple dedicated to both Yahweh and the goddess Anat. Uncovering the Sacred Feminine in early Christianity, the authors show how, in the first century AD, both Jesus and his great rival, Simon Magus, were attempting to restore the goddess-worshipping religion of the Israelites. The authors reveal how both men accorded great honor to the women they adored and who traveled with them as priestesses, Jesus’s Mary Magdalene and Simon’s Helen. But, as had happened centuries before, the Church rewrote history to erase the feminine side of the faith, deliberately ignoring Jesus’s real message and again condemning women to marginalization and worse. Providing all the necessary evidence to restore the goddess to both Judaism and Christianity, Picknett and Prince expose the disastrous consequences of the suppression of the feminine from these two great religions and reveal how we have been collectively and instinctively craving the return of the Sacred Feminine for millennia.

Book excerpt: Sylvia Browne, in her own inimitable style, again defies convention in this uniquely informative compilation of diligently researched facts and personal accounts about the premise of a female divinity - namely, the Mother God (also known as the feminine principle). Spanning time, from the earliest beginnings of humankind when ''Goddess worship'' was at its peak, to the current era with its myriad beliefs and religions, Sylvia takes us on a journey of discovery, where she discusses the suppression of the ''Mother Goddess'' by the male-dominated politics of modern-day religious dogma. Using a combination of historical data and poignant and heartwarming stories that reveal the power and miracles attributed to the Mother God, Sylvia leads us from the question of ''Does She exist?'' to the logical, fact-based conclusion that She does ... and then shows us how to call on Her to help us in our everyday lives.

Book excerpt: God's Wife: the Goddess Asherah, Wife of Yahweh. Although a disconcerting notion to some, a galaxy of ancient artifacts reveals that goddess worship existed in Ancient Israel and that Asherah was but one of Yahweh's wives. Following a trail of archaeological discoveries, the forgotten story of God's wife, the quintessential Hebrew Mother Goddess Asherah, is slowly reconstructed in this extensive study with over 550 archaeological drawings and 1,183 references. Mentioned over 40 times in the Hebrew Bible, the archaeological evidence identifies Asherah as Yahweh's primary wife and reveals she is the only surviving goddess in Palestine by the end of the 7th-6th centuries BCE. Asherah's stunning history unfolds as the shovels of archaeology resurrect what the pens of history forgot. *A subject pioneered by Raphael Patai's The Hebrew Goddess (1967) and William G. Dever's Did God Have a Wife? Archaeology and Folk Religion in Ancient Israel (2005).

Long before Jesus talked about love, Her priestesses did. Long before the Quran declared the Divine to be the Light of the heavens, Her priestesses did. Why should something that happened thousands of years ago matter to you today? It matters because the Goddess' prophetic tradition still lives! Just like debar Yahweh (the word of Yahweh) was heard 3000 years ago, abat Ishtar (the word of Ishtar) still cries for you to hear today. "O seeker, if you ask who is Ishtar, look at the stars, they will tell you My story. If you ask where is Ishtar, look deep within your eyes and you shall see Me. If your mind says I don't believe in Ishtar, dwell on the image of your beloved and you will remember Me. In the heart of every man and woman is a star. Seek it and you shall know Me. I am Ishtar and I love you." If you have read the Bible, the Quran, or the Bhagavad Gita, then you owe it to yourself to read the Codex of Love. It is a book that evokes happiness with every reading, whose words of love fall like gentle rain on parched earth. Read it out loud to yourself and be ready to be amazed by the profound sense of love that surrounds you. Many books have been written on the Goddess, the old religion and neo paganism. Experts talk from an anthropological perspective and some give you basic rituals and hymns. The Codex of Love leaps out, unique in that it is the living words of the Goddess. For the faithful, it is indeed a joy ride of love that gladdens the heart and uplifts the spirit. For the skeptic, it is a pleasurable and tantalizing journey filled with spiritual nuggets of wisdom. No matter your affiliations, if love is your religion at all, you need to read this book.

Book excerpt: “This splendid reference describes every woman in Jewish and Christian scripture . . . monumental” (Library Journal). In recent decades, many biblical scholars have studied the holy text with a new focus on gender. Women in Scripture is a groundbreaking work that provides Jews, Christians, or anyone fascinated by a body of literature that has exerted a singular influence on Western civilization a thorough look at every woman and group of women mentioned in the Bible, whether named or unnamed, well known or heretofore not known at all. They are remarkably varied—from prophets to prostitutes, military heroines to musicians, deacons to dancers, widows to wet nurses, rulers to slaves. There are familiar faces, such as Eve, Judith, and Mary, seen anew with the full benefit of the most up-to-date results of biblical scholarship. But the most innovative aspect of this book is the section devoted to the many females who in the scriptures do not even have names. Combining rigorous research with engaging prose, these articles on women in the Hebrew Bible, the Apocryphal/Deuterocanonical Books, and the New Testament will inform, delight, and challenge readers interested in the Bible, scholars and laypeople alike. Together, these collected histories create a volume that takes the study of women in the Bible to a new level.

Download or read book Baal written by Baal Kadmon and published by Createspace Independent Publishing Platform. This book was released on 2018-01-29 with total page 92 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Great Canaanite God Baal is one of the most maligned deities in western religious history. Only Satan is considered more sinister and evil. This is sad because Baal is not evil at all but has been done an injustice and that is something I will be discussing at great length later in this book. Despite his falsely ascribed reputation in western religion, Baal is a mysterious God with qualities very similar to that of Yahweh of the Old Testament. In fact, they might be more alike than you can imagine. In general, the Canaanite pantheon is one of the most mysterious pantheons of the ancient Middle East. Because of the western taint, no one has truly discussed Baal in a way that does not reflect this bias. Sure, they have discussed him academically, but seldom spiritually without this weird negativity. Even other books that discuss Baal in magickal practice, do so with the inherent western bias that he is this shady, dark character with sinister motives. Yes, he like any other God and Goddess, has this side, but he was also prayed to and worshiped for good and benevolent reasons as well. He was, in fact, a savior-like figure. In this book, we will not only learn how to call upon this great God magickally, we will also dispel the myths surrounding him. As I do with all my books, I like to discuss history; I am an historian after all. We will cover: The history of Baal. His various aspects and forms. His worship and pervasiveness in ancient Biblical writings. A brief overview of the Baal Cycle. Why Baal is incorrectly equated with the Devil and evil in the West. Demonological References to Baal from the Most Obvious to the least and why they get it wrong. And finally, we will learn his great magick. He is very powerful, I must warn you. We have a lot to cover. Let us proceed.
