His dreams of being a movie director have long ago been shelved for marriage and a child. While Claudia sells her successful vegetarian take-out restaurant to a fast food chain and buys into Buddhism, Fred is trapped in the throes of a classic midlife crisis, made worse when Franka falls madly in love with a young guru. But as a bizarre set of events unfolds, he embarks on a journey of self-discovery that only a special kind of hero can survive. Book Where Do We Go from Here

Download or read book Where Do We Go from Here written by Ann Forster and published by Trafford Publishing. This book was released on 2006-01-09 with total page 212 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book offers variety as it "lifts the lid" on mediumship - a peek behind the scenes. Have you ever wondered how mediums "know what they know"? Some of the answers are here. Have you ever thought about your own death, what it will feel like? Is there an afterlife or is death the end? The read is compelling, chapter after chapter of people's experiences such as astral journeys to other parts of the country and even to the Spirit world itself. Mediumship in children, and accounts of visual phenomena are fascinating, whilst the chapters describing poltergeist activity, premonitions about disasters and amorous spirits may leave you with a tingle down your spine! Ann discusses the emotive, often taboo, subject of suicide. People who have "lost" someone this way know how they feel about it, through her spiritual encounters during the course of her work, she is able to put across the feelings of the Spirits who committed suicide and find out what they have to say. Some chapters such as "Humour from the Spirit World" will make you laugh, whilst many others, such as "Murder in a Phone Box" and "Lisa", may bring forth tears of emotion. Ann pays tribute, throughout her book, to her friend Jenny who passed to Spirit in 1995. Herself a psychic, she "endured" premonitions of tragic incidents such as Lockerbie in 1988. This book is for anyone with an open mind who wishes to know more about spiritual and psychic matters, I must warn you to be prepared for an emotional roller-coaster ride!

Book Growth determinants in East and Southeast Asian economies

Download or read book Growth determinants in East and Southeast Asian economies written by Hans-Jacob Krümmel and published by Duncker & Humblot. This book was released on 2022 with total page 286 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Already in the 1960s the four little dragons Hong Kong, Singapore, South Korea and Taiwan started their industrialization moving steadily upwards with increasing growth rates, some of them double-digit in the 1980s. Most significant for these results has been their export-oriented growth strategy capitalizing on low labour costs and opening them up to the world market with all its benefits and pressures. Until today they have attracted quite a lot of foreign investors bringing technology and skills beside the pure capital. Thus, all four countries have reached a more sophisticated level of production and partly even developed into service and financial centres.Combining these developments with the already advanced Japan, the entire Asia-Pacific Region must be seen as an extremely dynamic area often also mentioned as the Pacific Challenge. Thus it is of high interest to examine the determinants of growth behind this challenge, behind the economic success.Because of the specific Asian dimension of the success, especially the Asian mentality, a transfer of the growth strategy can only be possible to a very limited degree. But the Asian experiences can at least be helpful to the formulation of a country related development strategy showing up generally important growth factors. The contributors to this book analyze important factors such as development planning, foreign investment, deregulation, government intervention, human capital, finance and banking (service sector), technology transfer and promotion, trade (export promotion), agriculture and regional cooperation. For this purpose experts in Science and Economics report from their experiences.

Book Going beyond Parochialism and Fragmentation in the Study of International Relations

Download or read book Going beyond Parochialism and Fragmentation in the Study of International Relations written by Yong-Soo Eun and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2020-02-19 with total page 231 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: International Relations (IR), as a discipline, is a western dominated enterprise. This has led to calls to broaden the scope and vision of the discipline by embracing a wider range of histories, experiences, and theoretical perspectives – particularly those outside the Anglo-American core of the West. The ongoing ‘broadening IR projects’ – be they ‘non-Western IR’, ‘post-Western IR’, or ‘Global IR’ – are making contributions in this regard. However, some careful thinking is needed here in that these attempts could also lead to a national or regional ‘inwardness’ that works to reproduce the very parochialism that is being challenged. The main intellectual concerns of this edited volume are problematising Western parochialism in IR; giving theoretical and epistemological substance to pluralism in the field of IR based on both Western and non-Western thoughts and experiences; and working out ways to move the discipline of IR one step closer to a dialogic community. A key issue that cuts across all contributions in the volume is to go beyond both parochialism and fragmentation in international studies. In order to address the manifold and contested implications of pluralism in in the field of IR, the volume draws on the wealth of experience and research of prominent and emerging IR scholars whose contributions make up the work, with a mixture of theoretical analysis and case studies. This book will appeal to scholars and students interested in Global IR and promoting dialogue in a pluralist IR.

Book International Intellectual Property and the ASEAN Way

Download or read book International Intellectual Property and the ASEAN Way written by Elizabeth Siew-Kuan Ng and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2017-10-05 with total page 353 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) is actively seeking ways for member countries to enhance their individual economic development within the context of overall regional advancement. Central to this is the creation of a regional intellectual property framework. This book examines the efforts to move beyond sovereign protections of intellectual property rights and establish meaningful inter-state cooperation on intellectual property issues. Rather than aim for IP harmonization, ASEAN recognizes its internal diversity and pursues an agenda of 'IP Interoperability'. The essays in this collection examine the unique dynamics of 'interoperability', analyzing the administration of intellectual property in a part of the world that is of increasing importance. The book enables the reader to compare and contrast the ASEAN model to other approaches in regional cooperation, such as Europe and Latin America, and also explores private international law as a potential vehicle for interoperability.

Book Where Do We Go from Here

Download or read book Where Do We Go from Here written by Mark Major and published by Lexington Books. This book was released on 2010-03-19 with total page 226 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Progressive politics has long been in crisis in the United States. As the radical Left realizes the dire consequences of defining themselves solely by what they are against, this collection challenges leading engaged academics and activists to show how radical politics can lead to a more fruitful democracy. Dealing with pressing issues of the day such as health care, race, immigration, religion, foreign policy, unions, feminism, liberalism, education, and the media, this edited volume looks at the prospects for a progressive turn in U.S. politics. In doing so, it hopes to inspire the radical imagination by showing where we can go from here. As technology continues to enable greater access to ideas around the world, the power of intellectuals is greater than ever. And given that the world is full of crushing poverty, sexism, uneven development, environmental degeneration, religious fanaticism, racism, and imperialism, the need for intellectuals to inspire the radical imagination by championing principles of economic and social justice, democracy, and universality is also greater than ever. However, political visions are required to guide that struggle. This is the aim of this book.
