Book Ascomycetes of Peninsular India

Download or read book Ascomycetes of Peninsular India written by A. Pande and published by Scientific Publishers. This book was released on 2008-08-01 with total page 584 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Ascomycetes of Peninsular India is a compilation of descriptions of ascomycetous fungi collected from Peninsular India. The references to such fungi or their original publications are not available to many Indian students. This compilation bridges the gap and provides access to the descriptions. Ascomycetes form one of the large groups among fungi and show wide variations in habit, habitat, morphology, dimensions, lifecycle patterns etc. Where ever known, their anamorphs are mentioned. A total of 1410 species belonging to 403 genera distributed under 114 families are included in the compilation. The arrangement of taxa is according to the classification system in the ninth edition of “Dictionary of Fungi (CAB, UK, 2001). Taxonomic keys are provided. Figures are given at the end in 50 plates. Also there is an index to fungal names and glossary of mycological terms. The present compilation includes descriptions of maximum number of such fungi from the selected area. Also it introduces techniques used for collection, preservation, preparation of common staining reagents, examination and identification. There is a separate chapter pointing out their significance as direct or indirect uses in agriculture, medicines or food, apart from their value as of academic interest. The book is useful to new comers in the field, researchers, teachers, agriculture students, and others interested in sac fungi- ascomycetes.

Book excerpt: Indian mycologists have extensively studied various groups of fungi such as soil fungi, aquatic fungi, marine fungi, endophytic fungi, fungi associated with man and animals. Though several books on various aspects of fungi are published, this is the first account of the history and developments in mycology in India. It discusses at length various stages of development of mycology including both classical and biotechnological aspects. It begins with a historical account of Indian mycology, followed by a description of research on fossil fungi. Further chapters cover the latest updates on different taxonomic groups of fungi. A dedicated section describes the roles and applications of fungal endophytes. The book also includes research in other important areas such as mushrooms and wood rotting fungi. Different chapters are written by leading mycologists. This book is useful to students, teachers and researchers in botany, microbiology, biotechnology and life sciences, agriculture and industries using fungi to produce various valuable products.

Book Integrated Plant Disease Management

Download or read book Integrated Plant Disease Management written by R.C. Sharma and published by Scientific Publishers. This book was released on 2011-02-01 with total page 362 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Plant diseases often are the worst natural hazards in agriculture, horticulture and forestry. New diseases and new biotypes of existing disease producing organisms appear from time to time in more virulent forms. The most startling aspect of plant diseases is that their management cost us a huge sum every year with serious consequences in environment and human health. Therefore, integrated disease management practices need to be refined and adopted to reduce the crop losses. In this book, the current status of various aspects of integrated disease management in fruits, vegetable, ornamentals, cereals, pulses, oilseeds, medicinal and forest plants etc. has been analyzed. Major focus is on the integrated disease management in horticultural crops. Emphasis has been given to the use of non-chemical methods like cultural practices, soil solarization, plant growth promoting microorganisms, organic amendments, botanicals and biocontrol agents. It is hoped that the book will serve as an important guide to the plant pathologists, horticulturists, nematologists, microbiologists, mushroom scientists, breeders and students.

Book Forest Microbiology Vol 3 Tree Diseases and Pests

Download or read book Forest Microbiology Vol 3 Tree Diseases and Pests written by Fred O Asiegbu and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2022-07-28 with total page 470 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Forest Microbiology: Tree Diseases and Pests, Volume Three in the Forest Microbiology series, provides an overview of major disease agents of trees, including viruses, phytoplasma, bacteria, fungi, nematodes and major insect pests. With a strong emphasis on genetics, biochemistry, physiology, evolutionary biology and population dynamics of the organisms involved, this book provides a comprehensive understanding on the health of forests. Sections cover important pest threats such as bark beetles, emerald ash borer, coffee borers, leaf cutting ants, cocoa mirids, and more. This volume highlights a range of emerging diseases of forest trees in temperate and tropic regions as well as information on habitats. Forest trees play crucial roles not only for mitigating effects of the climate change but also for their considerable economic and ecological value. Forest trees are equally vital as an alternative bioenergy source and play important roles in pollution abatement and the maintenance of biodiversity. Timber and its associated products from forest trees contribute substantially to the revenue generation of many countries of the world. - Includes case studies of complex diseases of economically important trees - Highlights novel approaches to managing tree pests and diseases in a changing climate - Focuses on the many functions of microbial disease agents of trees - Addresses major insect pests of boreal, temperate and tropical trees

This book was released on 2019-11-04 with total page 308 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mycology is a frontier area of research in life sciences. Fungi represent one of the three major evolutionary segments along with plants and animals. Fungal multidimensional features with basic and applied value projected their potential beyond routine systematics, diversity and environmental studies. In view of tremendous developments in the field of Mycology, the present treatise emphasizes various aspects of contemporary issues in mycology. It comprises 22 chapters with emphasis on the fungal ecology, diversity and metabolites. The topics treated include aquatic ecology, diversity and phylogeny, mutualism and interactions, potential metabolites, pathology and toxins, fungal infections and prevention, cell permeabilization and advances in monocarboxylate transporters in yeasts with an emphasis on cancer therapy. This volume is of special interest to mycologists as a valuable source of information on the frontier areas of mycology dealing with diversity, ecological amplitudes, methods of assessment, novel metabolites and bioprospecting avenues.

Book Freshwater Fungi

Download or read book Freshwater Fungi written by E. B. Gareth Jones and published by Walter de Gruyter GmbH & Co KG. This book was released on 2014-08-27 with total page 518 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The available literature on freshwater fungi is limited. Over the subsequent years a considerable volume of scientific papers have appeared scattered throughout numerous journals. There is therefore no recent synthesis of the subject and this is the objective of the proposed book. Freshwater habitats are rich in fungi with some 3,000 described species, most of papers focussing on their identification, substrata they grow on and world distribution. However, these fungi play an important role in the freshwater ecosystem, and are primarily involved in the breakdown of leaf litter contributing food for detritus feeders. Our book will bring together a wide range of acclaimed mycologists to review recent developments on the biology and ecology of freshwater fungi, particularly their molecular phylogeny, biodiversity, causative diseases of freshwater amphibians, fishes and invertebrate animals, decomposition of leaf litter, stream pollution and their potential role in bioremediation.
