Book Why I Stand

Download or read book Why I Stand written by Jonathan Isaac and published by DW Books. This book was released on 2022-05-17 with total page 144 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Facing public criticism, peer hostility, and widespread disapproval, would you compromise your principles to blend in with the crowd, or would you stand for what you believe? On July 31, 2020, the Orlando Magic starting forward Jonathan Isaac was the lone NBA player not to kneel for the national anthem amid a league-wide demonstration in support of Black Lives Matter. Standing alone, knowing the scrutiny to come, Jonathan had a peace he at one time never could have imagined possible. In Why I Stand, Jonathan shares the journey of how—through a series of divine connections and a willingness to follow Christ—his fear and insecurity-driven life was transformed into one of confidence and purpose. From his childhood in the Bronx to his high school years in Florida, from rail-skinny freshman at FSU to top draft pick in the NBA, Jonathan uses his life story to illuminate the freedom and peace found in the love of Jesus Christ. More than the story of an NBA player’s transformation from man on the court to man of God, Why I Stand is a testament to His love, power, and grace that extends to us all. This book is a discovery that no matter your level of confidence today, God’s strength will develop in your weakness. That courage is found in trusting that God is greater than your fears. As Jonathan takes you through the experiences that drove his decisions, he offers insight and inspiration to help you to grow to a point where standing alone is better than not standing at all.

Download or read book Stand written by John Piper and published by Crossway. This book was released on 2008-08-27 with total page 130 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With Contributions by John Piper, John MacArthur, Jerry Bridges, Randy Alcorn, and Helen Roseveare These powerful calls to godly perseverance from four admired Christians elevate the value and necessity of lifelong faithfulness in the lives of God's people. Many people seek to better their lives by leaving, changing, swapping, or modifying their commitments. But God's Word holds up a beautiful value that, while difficult, leads to deep satisfaction and great reward: endurance. Such long, steady, hold-the-course perseverance is especially needed within our vacillating generation. This thoughtful book thus not only elevates the virtue of godly endurance but bears witness to its power in the Christian life through the exhortations of John Piper-who provides the context and overview for the entire book-John MacArthur, Jerry Bridges, Randy Alcorn, and Helen Roseveare. Each contributor represents a different kind of endurance: from MacArthur's longtime, faithful shepherding of a church to Alcorn's radical obedience in the culture wars, from Bridges' unswerving patience through suffering to Roseveare's courageous constancy on the war-torn mission field. Stand will awaken and solidify rugged, Christ-exalting endurance in people who are weary in their faith journey or who simply long to remain firm to the end. And for everyone who dreams of a Christian culture-shift from brief trial runs to lifelong commitments, John Piper and Justin Taylor's latest offering is a watershed that will serve to seal that vision in people's minds and hearts.

Book excerpt: Robeson's international achievements as a singer and actor in starring roles on stage and screen made him the most celebrated black American of his day, but his outspoken criticism of racism in the United States, his strong support of African independence, and his fascination with the Soviet Union placed him under the debilitating scrutiny of McCarthyism. Blacklisted, his famed voice silenced, Here I Stand offered a bold answer to his accusers. It remains today a defiant challenge to the prevailing fear and racism that continues to characterize American society.

Download or read book Why I Stand written by Burgess Owens and published by Post Hill Press. This book was released on 2018-10-30 with total page 236 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: American Individualism has been the crown jewel of a nation that, based on its Judeo-Christian values, has prioritized God, family, and freedom to out-dream its obstacles. It is the freedom of this individual spirit that is under attack by its adversarial ideology, Marxist Socialism. This destructive ideology has resulted in “killing fields” of bodies, souls, and dreams of billions worldwide. Consistent is the destruction of manhood, womanhood, the family, and every pillar that supports love of God and country. Why I Stand documents an ideology that uses trust to divide and betray. It was the ideology of the 1910 NAACP (National Association for the Advancement of Colored People) founded by twenty-one White Marxist Socialist, atheist, and eugenicist Democrats. They succeeded within decades to undermine the progress of the most entrepreneurial, patriotic, Christian, educated, family-oriented, and competitive minority in our nation during that era: the Black community. This strategy of trust/betrayal is utilized by many of today’s politicians and corporate leaders. It has been the Congressional Black Congress that have voted 100% for every anti-Black policy demanded of them by their White Democratic leadership. It has been the NFL that has prioritized its expansion to 10 international countries over loyalty to its American fans. Its leadership has justified the denigration of its “All American” brand in exchange for a global “World Citizen” brand. “American Individualism is the sole source of progress, granting each individual the chance and stimulation for development of the best with which he has been endowed in heart and mind.” - President Herbert Hoover We MUST defend it.

Book I Stand Corrected

Download or read book I Stand Corrected written by Eden Collinsworth and published by Anchor. This book was released on 2014-10-07 with total page 242 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A fascinating fusion of memoir, manners, and cultural history from a successful businesswoman well versed in the unique challenges of working in contemporary China. During the course of a career that has, quite literarily, moved her around the world, no country has fascinated Eden Collinsworth more than China, where she has borne witness to its profound transformation. After numerous experiences there that might best be called "unusual" by Western standards, she concluded that despite China's growing status as a world economy, businessmen in mainland China were fundamentally uncomfortable in the company of their Western counterparts. This realization spawned an idea to work collaboratively with a major Chinese publisher on a Western etiquette guide, which went on to became a bestseller and prompted a branch of China's Ministry of Education to suggest that she create a curriculum for the school system. In I Stand Corrected, Collinsworth tells the entertaining and insightful story of the year she spent living among the Chinese while writing a book featuring advice on such topics as the non-negotiable issue of personal hygiene, the rules of the handshake, and making sense of foreigners. Scrutinizing the kind of etiquette that has guided her own business career, one which has unfolded in predominately male company, Collinsworth creates a counterpart that explains Chinese practices and reveals much about our own Western culture. At the same time, I Stand Corrected is a wry but self-effacing reflection on the peripatetic career she led while single-handedly raising her son, and here she details the often madcap attempts to strike a balance that was right for them both.

Download or read book From Where I Stand written by Sihlangule Mmiselo Siwisa and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2015-11-21 with total page 89 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is about leadership. It is about the kind of leadership that bends the arc of history and builds upon heritage in order to create a living legacy. The central challenge of a society that is moving away from imbalanced development is not only addressing economic inequality but also restoring a sense of confidence in the quality of thought leadership that steers the destiny of the nation. We need cohesive leadership and that in turn can precipitate the kind of patriotism that emphasizes seeking common ground and consensus above dwelling on differences and petty party politicking that polarizes our nation. I believe that there is a difference between history and heritage. History is the sum total of all of our stories, but Heritage is what we choose to appropriate out of our History to own and shape the values, rituals and destiny of a particular society. We do not have the luxury of cherry picking what we regard to be palatable or unpalatable within history regarding the truth and the completeness of the collective story of history. For instance, the Anglo-Boer War and the Rise of Afrikaner Nationalism is as much a valid part of South African History as the birth and evolution of the African National Congress as the oldest and most enduring liberation movement in Africa. Heritage however is what I 'choose' to appropriate or 'own' and subsequently celebrate out of History as being part of my own story and therefore worthy of being re-told in order to build, establish, strengthen, and sustain the value system of my own society. I believe all of history is worthy of being remembered, but not all that is within history is worthy of being celebrated. What I choose to celebrate out of history is what I appropriate as my heritage.
