Following the crippling robot attack on San Francisco, Terre Hoffman is haunted by the lasting scars born from the failings of the Guardian Program. Uncertain of the success of their efforts to patch the glitches that turned the military’s war machines on their own people, Terre and his colleague, robotics specialist Kristopher Klein, have parted ways with the CIA, hoping to put the harrowing experience—and the bots that caused it—behind them. On vacation in Sin City, Terre drowns his sorrows as he looks to a future without his family. But when an ominous power outage plunges Vegas into chaos, Terre receives a call from his old employer asking him to return to duty. The bots are malfunctioning again, and an installation at the Hoover Dam holds the secret. And, most worrying of all, Kristopher is somehow involved … Artificial Insurgence is the thrilling apocalyptic continuation of The Terre Hoffman Chronicles. As Terre comes to terms with the loss, he and fellow robotics consultant Kristopher Klein are assigned by the US military to investigate the AI anomalies and bring the bots back under human direction. Under pressure and under attack, the two experts only have one shot at success—override the network and shut down the Guardian Program. With everything on the line, Terre must overcome the pain of losing his loved ones in order to stop the war machines from causing even more destruction. Failure signifies handing over complete control to the very machines designed to protect them … but bent on killing them instead. Book Political Attitudes

    Book Details:
  • Author : Camelia Florela Voinea
  • Publisher : John Wiley & Sons
  • Release : 2016-06-13
  • ISBN : 111883321X
  • Pages : 352 pages

Download or read book Political Attitudes written by Camelia Florela Voinea and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2016-06-13 with total page 352 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Political Science has traditionally employed empirical research and analytical resources to understand, explain and predict political phenomena. One of the long-standing criticisms against empirical modeling targets the static perspective provided by the model-invariant paradigm. In political science research, this issue has a particular relevance since political phenomena prove sophisticated degrees of context-dependency whose complexity could be hardly captured by traditional approaches. To cope with the complexity challenge, a new modeling paradigm was needed. This book is concerned with this challenge. Moreover, the book aims to reveal the power of computational modeling of political attitudes to reinforce the political methodology in facing two fundamental challenges: political culture modeling and polity modeling. The book argues that an artificial polity model as a powerful research instrument could hardly be effective without the political attitude and, by extension, the political culture computational and simulation modeling theory, experiments and practice. This book: Summarizes the state of the art in computational modeling of political attitudes, with illustrations and examples featured throughout. Explores the different approaches to computational modeling and how the complexity requirements of political science should determine the direction of research and evaluation methods. Addresses the newly emerging discipline of computational political science. Discusses modeling paradigms, agent-based modeling and simulation, and complexity-based modeling. Discusses model classes in the fundamental areas of voting behavior and decision-making, collective action, ideology and partisanship, emergence of social uprisings and civil conflict, international relations, allocation of public resources, polity and institutional function, operation, development and reform, political attitude formation and change in democratic societies. This book is ideal for students who need a conceptual and operational description of the political attitude computational modeling phases, goals and outcomes in order to understand how political attitudes could be computationally modeled and simulated. Researchers, Governmental and international policy experts will also benefit from this book.

Book Technologies of the New Real

Download or read book Technologies of the New Real written by Arthur Kroker and published by University of Toronto Press. This book was released on 2021-10-01 with total page 201 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: With astonishing speed, we have been projected into a new reality where interactions with drones, robotic bodies, and high-level surveillance are increasingly mainstream. In this age of groundbreaking developments in robotic technologies, synthetic biology is merging with artificial intelligence, forming a newly blended reality of machines, bodies, and affect. Technologies of the New Real draws from critical intersections of technology and society – including drones, surveillance, DIY bodies, and innovations in robotic technology – to explore what these advances can tell us about our present reality, or what authors Arthur and Marilouise Kroker deem the "new real" of digital culture in the twenty-first century. Technologies of the New Real explores the many technologies of our present reality as they infiltrate the social, political, and economic static of our everyday lives, seemingly eroding traditionally conceived boundaries between humans and machines, and rendering fully ambivalent borders between the human mind and simulated data.
