Book Articulators and Face bow Through the Years A Comprehensive Review

Download or read book Articulators and Face bow Through the Years A Comprehensive Review written by Anchal Deep and published by LAP Lambert Academic Publishing. This book was released on 2013 with total page 140 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Numerous articulators are available for the fabrication of dental restorations. The success or failure of final restoration is more dependent on the operator of the articulator than on articulator itself. The use of facebow forms an integral part for analyzing and studying occlusion, developing the occlusion for complete dentures and other restoration. Failure to use the facebow leads to error in occlusion. If dentists understands articulators and their deficiencies, they can compensate for their inherent inadequacies. No one understands articulators better than the one who made them.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An articulator is a mechanical device that simulates the movements of the mandible. From the early 18th century different articulators have been developed, each one being better and different from the previous one, so that jaw movements can be reproduced accurately for restorations to be successful. The uses of articulators include diagnose and plan dental conditions, to aid in the fabrication of dental restorations and to correct and modify completed restorations. The main advantage of the articulator is that it acts as a patient in the absence of a patient and saves considerable chair side time. However, every instrument has its limitations as error can occur from metal fatigue and wear. This book gives insights about the how articulators have evolved over the past years, their classification, laws governing articulation and lastly parts and working of some of the common used articulators.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The temporomandibular joint is a complicated mechanism; not only does it allow pivoting, rotating, opening and closing movements, but also movements of translation and laterotrusion. Furthermore, the structures that make it up are not rigid, precise and unchangeable; rather, the muscles, ligaments and bone have a certain degree of elasticity. Into this milieu, the clinician is asked to introduce a prosthesis that is within the adaptive capacity of the neuromuscular system. In general, the clinician is always looking for ways to simplify the procedure for the fabrication of a prosthesis and to decrease the time necessary to integrate it into the mouth of the patient. Therefore a need existed for the clinician to simulate the movements of TMJ and associated structures, so that an accurate prosthesis could be fabricated. In achieving the simulation of the TMJ and associated structures, the articulator and facebow play an important role.

Book excerpt: Covering the functional and esthetic needs of edentulous patients, Prosthodontic Treatment for Edentulous Patients: Complete Dentures and Implant-Supported Prostheses, 13th Edition helps you provide complete dentures, with and without dental implant support. It addresses both the behavioral and clinical aspects of diagnosis and treatment and covers treatment modalities including osseointegration, overdentures, implant-supported fixed prosthesis, and the current and future directions of implant prosthodontics. New to this edition are full-color photographs and coverage of immediately loaded complete dental prostheses. From lead editor and respected educator George Zarb, Prosthodontic Treatment for Edentulous Patients provides an atlas of clinical procedures and emphasizes the importance of evidence-based treatment. Short, easy-to-read chapters cover the essentials of care for both short- and long-term patients, stressing the importance of evidence-based treatment. Expanded coverage of implant prosthodontics addresses the clinical protocols for implant-retained and implant-supported prosthodontic management. Specific chapters address the three surfaces of the complete denture: (1) an impression or intaglio surface, (2) a polished surface, and (3) an occlusal surface, the integration of which is crucial to creating a stable, functional, and esthetic result. Chapter on health and nutrition examines a number of systemic conditions (vesciculoerosive conditions, systemic lupus erythematosus, burning mouth syndrome, salivary dysfunction, Sjögren's syndrome, hyper/hyposalivation, diabetes) that affect the oral cavity and specifically influence the prognosis for wearing complete dentures or for accepting osseointegrated prostheses. Chapter on the time-dependent changes which occur in the oral cavity focuses on both time-related direct (ulcer/cheek biting, irritation hyperplasia, denture stomatitis, flabby ridge and pendulous maxillary tuberosities, hyperkeratosis and oral cancer, residual ridge reduction) and indirect (atrophy of masticatory muscles, nutritional status and masticatory function, control of sequelae) changes in the oral environment, and provides strategies to minimize the risk of such changes. Chapter on the techniques used to prolong the life of complete dentures focuses on the two techniques used to extend the life of dentures: relining and rebasing, also touching on denture duplication. Well-respected editors and contributors are the leaders in their field, lending credibility and experience to each topic.
