Book Energy and Society

Download or read book Energy and Society written by Alfredo Agustoni and published by AuthorHouse. This book was released on 2015-10-08 with total page 126 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book deals with a pivotal issue often marginalized by sociological analysis: the relationship between energy and society, with different contributions from several European scholars. The articles cover a series of topics concerning energy policies, risk communication, and sustainable development. The increasingly complex social organization emerging from the energy shifts of the last two centuries, incorporates an increasing quantity of expert knowledge. Quite paradoxically, when the expert systems seem to be realizing the dream of total control on the uncertainty of the events, any occasional accident reveals to be a check for them contributes to undermining their credibility. Following the idea of a post-democratic turn, this kind of mistrust can be considered a different face of political elites and politics in general, in the frame of a radical change concerning political culture in the last several decades. This change is clear in areas such as risk communication, governance, and energy policies.

Book New Materialisms and Environmental Education

Download or read book New Materialisms and Environmental Education written by David A. G. Clarke and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2023-07-24 with total page 383 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: ‘New materialisms’ refers to a broad, contemporary, and significant movement of thought across the social sciences and cultural studies which attempts to (re)turn to, renew, or create alternative philosophies of matter. Such philosophies spring from multiple sources but are in general an attempt to bring the indissolubility of the social and environmental more forcefully into our analytical frames and modes of inquiry and tackle a perceived over-reliance on discourse and language in the so-called post-modern era of philosophy and social science. This movement in thought is underlaid by, and meets up with, the climate and biodiversity crises and the nature of the human condition (and modes of learning or becoming), within the field of environmental education. This volume brings together academics working at differing intersections of environmental education and new materialisms, highlighting tensions, knots, and lines of flight across and for research, practice, and theory. As such this collection draws on multiple interpretations and streams of thought within new materialisms and demonstrates their significance for those engaging with environmental education policy, practice and research. This book was originally published as a special issue of the journal Environmental Education Research.

  • Author : Jenny Rinkinen
  • Publisher : Routledge
  • Release : 2019-05-03
  • ISBN : 0429674244
  • Pages : 130 pages

Download or read book Energy Fables written by Jenny Rinkinen and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2019-05-03 with total page 130 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Energy Fables: Challenging Ideas in the Energy Sector takes a fresh look at key terms and concepts around which energy research and policy are organised. Drawing on recent research in energy and transport studies, and combining this with concepts from sociology, economics, social theory and technology studies, the chapters in this collection review and challenge different aspects of received wisdom. Brief but critical introductions to classic notions like those of ‘energy efficiency’, ‘elasticity’, ‘energy services’ and the ‘energy trilemma’, together with discussions and analyses of well-worn phrases about ‘low hanging fruit’ and ‘keeping the lights on’, articulate aspects of the energy debate that are often taken for granted. In re-working these established themes and adding twists to familiar tales, the authors develop a repertoire of new ideas about the fundamentals of energy demand and carbon reduction. This book presents a valuable and thought-provoking resource for students, researchers and policy-makers interested in energy demand, politics and policy.

Book Limbertwig

    Book Details:
  • Author : Emmerson, Parker
  • Publisher : Parker Emmerson Publishes on Lulu
  • Release : 2023-06-13
  • ISBN :
  • Pages : 447 pages

Download or read book Limbertwig written by Emmerson, Parker and published by Parker Emmerson Publishes on Lulu. This book was released on 2023-06-13 with total page 447 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This work is an attempt to describe various braches of mathematics and the analogies betwee them. Namely: 1) Symbolic Analogic 2) Lateral Algebraic Expressions 3) Calculus of Infin- ity Tensors Energy Number Synthesis 4) Perturbations in Waves of Calculus Structures (Group Theory of Calculus) 5) Algorithmic Formation of Symbols (Encoding Algorithms) The analogies between each of the branches (and most certainly other branches) of mathematics form, ”logic vectors.” Forming vector statements of logical analogies and semantic connections between the di↵erentiated branches of math- ematics is useful. It’s useful, because it gives us a linguistic notation from which we can derive other insights. These combined insights from the logical vector space connections yield a combination of Numeric Energy and the logic space. Thus, I have derived and notated many of the most useful tangent ideas from which even more correlations and connections ca be drawn. Using AI, these branches can be used to form even more connections through training of lan- guage engines on the derived models. Through the vector logic space and the discovery of new sheaf (Limbertwig), vast combinations of novel, mathematical statements are derived. This paves the way for an AGI that is not rigid, but flex- ible, like a Limbertwig. The Limbertwig sheaf is open, meaning it can receive other mathematical logic vectors with di↵erent designated meanings (of infi- nite or finite indicated elements). Furthermore, the articulation of these syntax forms evolves language away from imperative statements into a mathematically emotive space. Indeed, shown within, we see how the supramanifold of logic is shared with the supramanifold of space-time mathematically. Developing clean mathematical spaces can help meditation, thought pro- cess, acknowledgment of ideas spoken into that cognitive-spacetime and in turn, methods by which paradoxes can be resolved linguistically. This toolkit should be useful to all in the sciences as well as those bridging the humantities to mathematics. Using our memories as a toolkit to aggregate these ideas breaks down bound- aries between them in a new, exciting way. Merging philosophy and Quantum Mechanics together through the lens of symbolic analogies gives the tools to unravel this mystery of all mysteries. Mathematics thus exists as a bridge al- beit a complex one between the two disciplines, giving life to a composite art of problem-solving. Furthermore, mathematics yields to millions of other applications that are potentially limited only by our imagination. From massive data sets used for predictive analytics to emerging fields in medicine, mathematics is an energy and force at the center of possibilities. The power of mathematics to help manage life exists in its ability to shape and model the world in which we live and interact with one another. In conclusion, mathematics is a powerful tool that creates bridges and con- nections between many disciplines and serves as a powerful form of analytical data consumption. It provides language-rich bridges from which to assemble vast fields of theoretical investigations and create groundbreaking innovations. As we approach new horizons in the technology timeline, mathematics will con- tinue to be a powerful driver of creativity and progress.

Book Energy s Digital Future

Download or read book Energy s Digital Future written by Amy Myers Jaffe and published by Columbia University Press. This book was released on 2021-05-11 with total page 372 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Disruptive digital technologies are poised to reshape world energy markets. A new wave of industrial innovation, driven by the convergence of automation, artificial intelligence, and big data analytics, is remaking energy and transportation systems in ways that could someday end the age of oil. What are the consequences—not only for the environment and for daily life but also for geopolitics and the international order? Amy Myers Jaffe provides an expert look at the promises and challenges of the future of energy, highlighting what the United States needs to do to maintain its global influence in a post-oil era. She surveys new advances coming to market in on-demand travel services, automation, logistics, energy storage, artificial intelligence, and 3-D printing and explores how this rapid pace of innovation is altering international security dynamics in fundamental ways. As the United States vacillates politically about its energy trajectory, China is proactively striving to become the global frontrunner in a full-scale global energy transformation. In order to maintain its leadership role, Jaffe argues, the United States must embrace the digital revolution and foster American achievement. Bringing together analyses of technological innovation, energy policy, and geopolitics, Energy’s Digital Future gives indispensable insight into the path the United States will need to pursue to ensure its lasting economic competitiveness and national security in a new energy age.

Book Modernist Essays

Download or read book Modernist Essays written by Donald Davie and published by Carcanet Press. This book was released on 2004 with total page 272 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Donald Davie mapped some of the most dependable critical routes into the heart Modernism - American, English, Irish and Continental. This book includes his most important essays on the subject, starting with his exemplary definition of Modernism in The Poet in the Imaginary Museum (1957) and following on with essays from five decades, about Eliot, Yeats and Pound, and about poetry and music, poetry and fiction. Taken together these essays trace a life-long engagement, sometimes against the grain, with some of the most challenging and rewarding works of the twentieth century. Davie reads with intense intelligence and feeling; at no point is a poet or a poem in danger of becoming grist for a merely academic mill.

Book excerpt: The Critical Heritage gathers together a large body of critical sources on major figures in literature. Each volume presents contemporary responses to a writer's work, enabling students and researchers to read for themselves, for example, comments on early performances of Shakespeare's plays, or reactions to the first publication of Jane Austen's novels. The carefully selected sources range from landmark essays in the history of criticism to journalism and contemporary opinion, and little published documentary material such as letters and diaries. Significant pieces of criticism from later periods are also included, in order to demonstrate the fluctuations in an author's reputation. Each volume contains an introduction to the writer's published works, a selected bibliography, and an index of works, authors and subjects. The Collected Critical Heritage set will be available as a set of 68 volumes and the series will also be available in mini sets selected by period (in slipcase boxes) and as individual volumes.
