En el tercer bloque se profundiza en el territorio de las prácticas funerarias y el tratamiento de la muerte en el Mesolítico y Edad del Bronce, a la vez que el cuarto bloque analiza las prácticas económicas y los modelos de asentamiento en contextos kársticos y al aire libre, ambos bloques espacialmente centrados en la zona atlántica y, por último, el quinto bloque se detiene en la aplicación de la Etnoarqueología al estudio de las sociedades del pasado. La diversidad de áreas geográficas (América del Norte, América del Sur, Oriente Próximo y Europa) y el amplio marco cronológico que abarcan los diferentes casos de estudio, desde el Paleolítico hasta las poblaciones actuales, confieren dinamismo a este volumen, que se convierte en un referente para conocer los últimos métodos de estudio aplicados a nivel global en el ámbito de la Arqueología, con una especial atención a la Cornisa Cantábrica.

The study of social space in any human group is fraught with limitations, and to these we must add the further limits involved in the study of childhood. Children are considered as the main actors in historic dynamics of social change, from prehistory to the present day. Notions on space, childhood and the construction of both the individual and the group identity of children are considered as a prelude to papers that focus on analyzing and identifying the spaces which contribute to the construction of children’s identity during their lives: the places they live, learn, socialize and play. A final section deals with these same aspects, but focuses on funerary contexts, in which children may lose their capacity to influence events, as it is adults who establish burial strategies and practices. In each case authors ask questions such as: how do adults construct spaces for children? How do children manage their own spaces? How do people (adults and children) build (invisible and/or physical) boundaries and spaces?

During the three and a half decades of Francoist dictatorship, these exiles held that the Republic, not Francoism, represented the authentic culture of Spain. In this environment, as Sebastiaan Faber argues in Exile and Cultural Hegemony, the Spaniards' conception of their role as intellectuals changed markedly over time. The first study of its kind to place the exiles' ideological evolution in a broad historical context, Exile and Cultural Hegemony takes into account developments in both Spanish and Mexican politics from the early 1930s through the 1970s. Faber pays particular attention to the intellectuals' persistent nationalism and misplaced illusions of pan-Hispanist grandeur, which included awkward and ironic overlaps with the rhetoric employed by their enemies on the Francoist right. This embrace of nationalism, together with the intellectuals' dependence on the increasingly authoritarian Mexican regime and the international climate of the Cold War, eventually caused them to abandon the Gramscian ideal of the intellectual as political activist in favor of a more liberal, apolitical stance preferred by, among others, the Spanish philosopher Jose Ortega y Gasset.
