Book Art Gallery Theorems and Algorithms

Download or read book Art Gallery Theorems and Algorithms written by Joseph O'Rourke and published by Oxford University Press, USA. This book was released on 1987 with total page 312 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Art gallery theorems and algorithms are so called because they relate to problems involving the visibility of geometrical shapes and their internal surfaces. This book explores generalizations and specializations in these areas. Among the presentations are recently discovered theorems on orthogonal polygons, polygons with holes, exterior visibility, visibility graphs, and visibility in three dimensions. The author formulates many open problems and offers several conjectures, providing arguments which may be followed by anyone familiar with basic graph theory and algorithms. This work may be applied to robotics and artificial intelligence as well as other fields, and will be especially useful to computer scientists working with computational and combinatorial geometry.

Book Visibility Algorithms in the Plane

Download or read book Visibility Algorithms in the Plane written by Subir Kumar Ghosh and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2007-03-29 with total page 332 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A human observer can effortlessly identify visible portions of geometric objects present in the environment. However, computations of visible portions of objects from a viewpoint involving thousands of objects is a time consuming task even for high speed computers. To solve such visibility problems, efficient algorithms have been designed. This book presents some of these visibility algorithms in two dimensions. Specifically, basic algorithms for point visibility, weak visibility, shortest paths, visibility graphs, link paths and visibility queries are all discussed. Several geometric properties are also established through lemmas and theorems. With over 300 figures and hundreds of exercises, this book is ideal for graduate students and researchers in the field of computational geometry. It will also be useful as a reference for researchers working in algorithms, robotics, computer graphics and geometric graph theory, and some algorithms from the book can be used in a first course in computational geometry.

Book Algorithm Engineering

Download or read book Algorithm Engineering written by Lasse Kliemann and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-11-10 with total page 419 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Algorithm Engineering is a methodology for algorithmic research that combines theory with implementation and experimentation in order to obtain better algorithms with high practical impact. Traditionally, the study of algorithms was dominated by mathematical (worst-case) analysis. In Algorithm Engineering, algorithms are also implemented and experiments conducted in a systematic way, sometimes resembling the experimentation processes known from fields such as biology, chemistry, or physics. This helps in counteracting an otherwise growing gap between theory and practice.

The program had an additional invited lecture by Adi Shamir (Weizmann Institute) which does not appear in these proceedings. ICALP is a series of annual conferences of the European Association for Theoretical Computer Science (EATCS). The ?rst ICALP took place in 1972. This year, the ICALP program consisted of the established track A (focusing on algorithms, automata, complexity and games) and track B (focusing on logic, semantics and theory of programming), and innovated on the structure of its traditional scienti?c program with the inauguration of a new track C (focusing on security and cryptography foundation). In response to a call for papers, the Program Committee received 407 s- missions, 258 for track A, 75 for track B and 74 for track C. This is the highest number of submitted papers in the history of the ICALP conferences. The P- gram Committees selected 113 papers for inclusion in the scienti?c program. In particular, the Program Committee for track A selected 65 papers, the P- gram Committee for track B selected 24 papers, and the Program Committee for track C selected 24 papers. All the work of the Program Committees was done electronically.

Book Handbook of Discrete and Computational Geometry Second Edition

Download or read book Handbook of Discrete and Computational Geometry Second Edition written by Csaba D. Toth and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2004-04-13 with total page 1557 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: While high-quality books and journals in this field continue to proliferate, none has yet come close to matching the Handbook of Discrete and Computational Geometry, which in its first edition, quickly became the definitive reference work in its field. But with the rapid growth of the discipline and the many advances made over the past seven years, it's time to bring this standard-setting reference up to date. Editors Jacob E. Goodman and Joseph O'Rourke reassembled their stellar panel of contributors, added manymore, and together thoroughly revised their work to make the most important results and methods, both classic and cutting-edge, accessible in one convenient volume. Now over more then 1500 pages, the Handbook of Discrete and Computational Geometry, Second Edition once again provides unparalleled, authoritative coverage of theory, methods, and applications. Highlights of the Second Edition: Thirteen new chapters: Five on applications and others on collision detection, nearest neighbors in high-dimensional spaces, curve and surface reconstruction, embeddings of finite metric spaces, polygonal linkages, the discrepancy method, and geometric graph theory Thorough revisions of all remaining chapters Extended coverage of computational geometry software, now comprising two chapters: one on the LEDA and CGAL libraries, the other on additional software Two indices: An Index of Defined Terms and an Index of Cited Authors Greatly expanded bibliographies
