Book Integrative Arts Psychotherapy

Download or read book Integrative Arts Psychotherapy written by Claire Louise Vaculik and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2022-08-12 with total page 232 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a new addition to the art therapy literature setting out an integrative approach to using theory and the arts, which places clients at the centre of practice and supports collaboration across the therapeutic journey. The structural framework described enables different theories, contemporary research, and best-practice guidelines to be used to inform therapy, allowing the practitioner to work fluidly and rigorously in response to their clients’ changing needs and therapeutic aims. Integrative arts psychotherapy brings therapeutic practice to life, as the use of the visual arts is enhanced by the possibilities offered for developing and deepening therapeutic work using sculpture/clay, drama/puppetry, poetry, sand play, music, and bodywork/movement. The work described in this book has grown from a British and European art therapy culture, community, and history – influenced by prominent American theorists. The book has been written for trainers, trainees, and practitioners of creative arts therapies, psychotherapy, and expressive arts therapies – nationally and worldwide. It may also be of interest to other professionals, or those in consultation with an art therapist, who want to understand what this type of art therapy can offer.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book systematically examines prevailing cultural patterns in contemporary American society. Using information on several thousands of cultural organisations, including elite ones (such as opera and chamber music companies) and popular cultural ones (such as cinemas and live rock concerts), Professor Blau examines the geography of culture, the changing demands for culture, the interdependencies among cultural organisations of different kinds, the nature of labour markets for artists, and the effects of arts subsidies on nonprofit cultural establishments over a ten year period. One of the major conclusions of the book is that the social conditions that support elite and popular culture are increasingly similar over time.

Book excerpt: Jews in Soviet Culture is the first authoritative book on Jewish contributions to Soviet culture, covering the fields of literature, painting, sculpture, music, philosophy, and Oriental studies. Unlike other works on Jews in the Soviet Union that deal mainly with political history--especially with discrimination and repression--this book focusses on the creative role of Jews in various aspects of Soviet culture and civilization. This is a substantial contribution to modern Jewish studies, Soviet studies, and European cultural history. The contributors, several of whom have recently emigrated to the West, are experts from a variety of cultural fields. The volume is a painful but useful reminder that the cultural life of a people and a nation continues--sometimes in harmony, other times at odds--but it continues.

Book George Wallace in Wisconsin The Divisive Campaigns that Shaped a Civil Rights Legacy

Download or read book George Wallace in Wisconsin The Divisive Campaigns that Shaped a Civil Rights Legacy written by Ben Hubing and published by Arcadia Publishing. This book was released on 2022-02 with total page 144 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A revealing account of the tensions that embroiled Wisconsinites as Alabama Governor Wallace took his struggle north of the Mason-Dixon Line George Wallace ran for president four times between 1964 and 1976. In the Badger State, his campaigns fueled a debate over constitutional principles and values. Wallace weaponized states' rights, arguing that the federal government should stay out of school segregation, promote law and order, restrict forced busing, and reduce burdensome taxation. White working-class Wisconsinites armed themselves with Wallace's rhetoric, pushing back on changes that threatened the status quo. Civil rights activists and the Black community in Wisconsin armed themselves with a different constitutional principle, equal protection, to push for strong federal protection of their civil rights. This clash of ideals nearly became literal as protests and counter-protests erupted until gradually diminishing as Wallace's political fortunes waned. Historian Ben Hubing explores the tumult surrounding the so-called little man with the big mouth.

Book excerpt: Women’s bodies and their portrayals in the media remain at the center of every debate on women’s rights worldwide. The author examines the visual culture of first-wave feminists in Edwardian England and feminist developments in France. Late 20th century and 21st century women’s movements are discussed in the context of how they continue to honor first-wave suffrage history.

Book Identity Community and Australian Artists 1890 1914

Download or read book Identity Community and Australian Artists 1890 1914 written by Kate R. Robertson and published by Bloomsbury Publishing USA. This book was released on 2019-09-19 with total page 256 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An irresistible call lured Australian artists abroad between 1890 and 1914, a transitional period immediately pre- and post-federation. Travelling enabled an extension of artistic frontiers, and Paris – the centre of art – and London – the heart of the Empire – promised wondrous opportunities. These expatriate artists formed communities based on their common bond to Australia, enacting their Australian-ness in private and public settings. Yet, they also interacted with the broader creative community, fashioning a network of social and professional relationships. They joined ateliers in Paris such as the Académie Julian, clubs like the Chelsea Arts Club in London and visited artist colonies including St Ives in England and Étaples in France. Australian artists persistently sought a sense of belonging, negotiating their identity through activities such as plays, balls, tableaux, parties, dressing-up and, of course, the creation of art. While individual biographies are integral to this study, it is through exploring the connections between them that it offers new insights. Through utilising extensive archival material, much of which has limited or no publication history, this book fills a gap in existing scholarship. It offers a vital exploration re-consideration of the fluidity of identity, place and belonging in the lives and work of Australian artists in this juncture in British-Australian history.
