Book excerpt: ¿Qué supone decir Arquitectura del Pensamiento Global, qué tipo de declaración sobre una manera de mirar el mundo, entendido éste como producido humano y en particular, referenciado a su vida comunitaria y social, en el contexto de los espacios urbanos crecientes? Propusimos una idea, la de subvertir el orden de la arquitectura, siempre singular –y por eso mismo de alcance social tan determinante–, en contraposición con un pensamiento globalizado como signo de enajenación de época y como ratio automatizada. Pretendemos así un ensamblado hacia su punto de síntesis, que probablemente advenga no sólo en trabajos posteriores, sino que sea el resultado de otros colectivos en producción e investigación. Una actividad conjunta que investiga una serie de temas en la cultura, entre los cuales también se encuentra el entrecruzamiento con la arquitectura y con la urbe, como emergente, como constructo y como experiencia social que produce síntomas y oscuridades, y que por sobre todo determina el desarrollo y los alcances de la subjetividad con su época y con lo porvenir. Una arquitectura de lo singular define así, los alcances de lo humano en nuestra cultura. Y del mismo modo, advierte sobre sus inhumanidades. Esta lectura sobre la problemática de los centros urbanos y de la vida en la ciudad, lo hace como necesidad de producir allí un sincretismo sobre la tensión no sólo política y económica que genera el hacinamiento del capitalismo industrial y sus condiciones de vida mecanizadas e infrahumanas, sino como intento de producir un tipo de esquema de convivencia que posibilite la reunión de los procesos industriales en desarrollo junto con la creciente concentración poblacional. Este problema de la concentración –como producido y emergente de la dinámica automática del capital– será retomado una y otra vez en cada uno de los intentos por refundar y promover las planificaciones urbanas a nivel local y global.

The presenters were leading architects and architectural historians from the region, and attendees included their colleagues as well as local and international university students, policy makers, civic leaders and developers from Jamaica, the surrounding Caribbean isalnds and the United States. MAD is led by Ma Yansong, Dang Qun and Yosuke Hayano. They have been awarded the Young Architecture Award from the New York Institute of Architects in 2006 and the 2011 RIBA international fellowship.
