If aromantic people primarily desire friendship or nonromantic partnerships over romance, then how can they practice any recognized form of non-monogamy? And polyamory the practice of having multiple intimate, loving relationships is just for romantic people, right? The truth is, being aromantic or asexual usually means there's an emphasis on friendship, which is inherently non-monogamous. Being aromantic means loving a bit differently, but in ways that matter just as much. Knowledge about these experiences and identities can help with clarifying relationship needs, bringing up new possibilities and better choices for relationship format ion, and for turning friendship into something more than a simple throwaway stand in for some potential romantic partner. Communities built on friendship rather than competition (and let s face it, competitiveness is usually encouraged when it comes to romance) would be more cohesive, less prone to the power dynamics that lead to systemic abuse, and can actually cultivate true agency. There are plenty of books out there already for straight, white, romantic folks. This is the book Black queer aros never got.

He is a tall, lean man, with sharp features. He has green eyes and blond hair. He is incredibly handsome, and he wears bronze armor forged by Hephaestus himself. On his chest plate is a two-headed phoenix. He has his bow slung over his shoulder, and on his shield is a painting of all twelve Olympians. He carried a black spear with a steel head. His sword is bronze, with a lightning bolt on the hilt. All these were gifts from Aphrodite for his eighteenth birthday. She enchanted his bow to make anyone fall madly in love with the first person you see after youre struck. Also she gave him a magical harp that can lull anyone to sleep, except the one playing it.

Book Eros and Arrows Love s Futile Exercise

Download or read book Eros and Arrows Love s Futile Exercise written by Jacqueline Hirk and published by . This book was released on 2017 with total page 276 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This dissertation provides a depth psychological understanding of women choosing to remain in unfulfilling relationships. This research examines the lived experience of women who encountered romantic love, experienced unhappiness in relationships and continued to stay in the relationships. Based on an interpretative phenomenological approach (IPA) to the research, the findings suggest that a heterosexual woman’s upbringing impacts the way that she perceives romantic love and relates to men. Data collected in interviews with six female participants is categorized into superordinate themes: idealization, Eros and arrows, psychological consequences of prolonging a relationship, and individuation. The findings reveal the painful experiences that these women encountered in their past relationships and how they are able to heal from the experience after separation. The conclusions drawn from this study offer guidance to clinicians who are working with couples or individuals who are experiencing problems within their relationships.

Book Gods and Mortals in Early Greek and Near Eastern Mythology

Download or read book Gods and Mortals in Early Greek and Near Eastern Mythology written by Adrian Kelly and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2021-05-06 with total page 355 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume centres on one of the most important questions in the study of antiquity – the interaction between Greece and the Ancient Near East, from the Mycenaean to the Hellenistic periods. Focusing on the stories that the peoples of the eastern Mediterranean told about the gods and their relationships with humankind, the individual treatments draw together specialists from both fields, creating for the first time a truly interdisciplinary synthesis. Old cases are re-examined, new examples discussed, and the whole range of scholarly opinions, past and present, are analysed, critiqued, and contextualised. While direct textual comparisons still have something to show us, the methodologies advanced here turn their attention to deeper structures and wider dynamics of interaction and influence that respect the cultural autonomy and integrity of all the ancient participants.

Book excerpt: The vast scope of conservation problems has forced biologists and managers to rely on "surrogate" species to serve as shortcuts to guide their decision making. These species-known by a host of different terms, including indicator, umbrella, and flagship species-act as proxies to represent larger conservation issues, such as the location of biodiversity hotspots or general ecosystem health. Synthesizing an immense body of literature, conservation biologist and field researcher Tim Caro offers systematic definitions of surrogate species concepts, explores biological theories that underlie them, considers how surrogate species are chosen, critically examines evidence for and against their utility, and makes recommendations for their continued use. The book clarifies terminology and contrasts how different terms are used in the real world considers the ecological, taxonomic, and political underpinnings of these shortcuts identifies criteria that make for good surrogate species outlines the circumstances where the application of the surrogate species concept shows promise Conservation by Proxy is a benchmark reference that provides clear definitions and common understanding of the evidence and theory behind surrogate species. It is the first book to review and bring together literature on more than fifteen types of surrogate species, enabling us to assess their role in conservation and offering guidelines on how they can be used most effectively.
