The Army developed two-level maintenance doctrine to support this type of warfare. In supporting the Army, the primary goal of two-level maintenance is to generate/regenerate combat power and to preserve the capital investment of weapon systems and equipment to enable mission readiness and accomplishment. The commander who combines the skillful use of assigned equipment with an effective maintenance management processes has a decided advantage. The purpose of this ATP is to provide a clear description of the two-level maintenance structure and base operating requirements enabling commanders to provide flexible maintenance support to meet operational objectives. Our Soldiers are trained to perform field-level maintenance. Leaders have to provide time on the training schedule for them to build their skills. Training is the cornerstone to a successful unit support mission by ensuring that ready equipment is available for operations. With all this in mind, leaders must ensure that personnel utilize adequate safety precautions and personal protective equipment in every operation-our Soldiers are our greatest asset. ATP 4-33 has numerous changes from the previous ATP 4-33. The most significant changes are an enhanced discussion on two-level maintenance, updates on other maintenance formations, and an enhanced discussion of Global Combat Support System-Army (GCSS-Army).

Book Army Techniques Publication Atp 3 04 7 Army Aviation Maintenance September 2017

Download or read book Army Techniques Publication Atp 3 04 7 Army Aviation Maintenance September 2017 written by United States Government US Army and published by Createspace Independent Publishing Platform. This book was released on 2017-10-03 with total page 216 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Army Techniques Publication ATP 3-04.7 Army Aviation Maintenance SEPTEMBER 2017 ATP 3-04.7 shapes the way Army aviation maintenance is to be conducted. Aviation maintenance is very complex and unlike any other type of combat service support (CSS) organization. Aviation maintainers must be able to support the aviation force as it is designed to fight, not as it is organized for command and control. To accomplish this, aviation units must be modular in design. For aviation maintenance applications, modularity is intended to facilitate, at the tactical level, the task organization of logistics to support a designated aviation task force and to effectively implement "fix forward" aviation maintenance doctrine. Aviation maintenance support has never been more critical than in today's operating environment, where personnel and aircraft remain in high demand due to high operational tempo (OPTEMPO). Today's technically complex aircraft demand equally experienced aircraft maintainers and maintenance managers. The ability of an aviation unit to perform its wartime mission is numerically represented by its aircraft operational readiness rates. Higher operational readiness rates are a direct result of effective maintenance and logistics management by all aviation maintenance commanders/leaders, officers, technicians, and noncommissioned officers in charge (NCOICs). Maintenance is critical for all aircraft weapon platforms, systems, subsystems, and aviation ground support equipment. The failure of an operating aircraft system or subsystem, resulting from improper maintenance procedures, can have catastrophic and deadly consequences to personnel and equipment. Aviation maintainers must adhere to the latest applicable aircraft technical manuals (TMs) and references when conducting maintenance on their assigned aircraft. Each aviation maintenance company (AMC) and aviation support company (ASC) now possesses the capability to conduct split-based operations within a single theater of operations. Each AMC is responsible for performing field maintenance on its assigned/attached aircraft. ASCs assigned to aviation support battalions (ASBs) provide field maintenance support by conducting intermediate aviation maintenance according to the maintenance allocation chart (MAC). Aviation maintenance is training. Commander and leader must balance mission requirements while continuously assessing a unit's maintenance posture. The critical link between maintenance and readiness cannot be emphasized enough. This ATP ties regulatory guidance to practice, and serves as the primary reference for effectively managing aviation maintenance.

Chapter 5 has other important subjects commanders and staff officers must address in achieving effective and efficient maintenance operations. Chapter 6 addresses how to design ad hoc reports. The measure of success of a maintenance operation is commonly measured by its ability to maintain the desired operational readiness standards for all or specified items of equipment within the command. The measure of success of a maintenance manager is based on his ability to lead his soldiers and manage his resources in the performance of all the tasks within the maintenance system. The Standard Army Maintenance System (SAMS) provides the maintenance manager a significantly improved automated management information system to assist him in managing direct and general supportmaintenance operations. As with most automated systems, SAMS has the capacity to process large quantities of data and produce hundreds of pages of reports, confronting the manager with information or paper overload. This guide provides the maintenance manager a guide on how to use SAMS as a toolsupporting the management of effective and efficient maintenance operations. AS a maintenance manager, YOU must learn how to make SAMS work for you as you go about managing your maintenance operation.
