This book was released on 2019-08-24 with total page 82 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This manual, Army Doctrine Publication ADP 4-0 Sustainment July 2019, is the Army's doctrine for sustainment in support of operations. The doctrine discussed in this manual is nested with ADP 3-0, Operations, and describes the sustainment warfighting function. The endurance of Army forces is primarily a function of their sustainment and is essential to retaining and exploiting the initiative. Sustainment provides the support necessary to maintain operations until mission accomplishment. The relationship between sustainment and operation is depicted in introductory figure-1 on page vi.Sustainment must be integrated and synchronized with operations at every level to include those of our joint and multinational partners. Sustainment depends on joint and strategic links for strategic airlift, sealift, intratheater airlift, and strategic and theater-level supply support. Sustainment depends on our host nation (HN) partners to provide infrastructure and logistics support necessary to ensure both maneuver forces and followon sustainment are delivered to right place, at the right time, and in an operable condition. This dependence on our joint and strategic links and our multinational partners means sustainment is inherently joint. Through joint interdependence, the combatant commander (CCDR) is able to maximize the effect the Army's capabilities in an operational area. The Army's robust sustainment capability assists in providing theater and port opening functions enabling joint forces to conduct strategic and operational reach. Army sustainment capabilities provide the bulk of Army support to other services in the forms of executive agent, common-user logistics, lead service, and other common sustainment resources. Army support to other services enables joint forces with freedom of action and endurance.ADP 4-0 contains three chapters: Chapter 1 discusses the four elements of the sustainment warfighting function: logistics, financial management, personnel services, and health service support. It establishes the principles for each of the elements.Chapter 2 describes the important roles that the United States (U.S.) military and interorganizational partners play during the sustainment of Army forces. It describes joint interdependence and how sustaining the Army and joint forces are linked. It also describes the Army's Title 10 responsibilities and the roles of the generating force, operating force, interorganizational coordination and multinational partners in providing sustainment. Chapter 3 discusses unified land operations in an operational context and continues with a description of command and control of sustainment forces. This chapter concludes with describing how sustainment provides operational reach, freedom of action and endurance to combat forces. For the purpose of this manual, the use of the terms sustainment headquarters and sustainment command refers to those organizations that provide one or more of the elements of the sustainment warfighting function

Book Army Doctrine Publication ADP 6 0 Mission Command

Download or read book Army Doctrine Publication ADP 6 0 Mission Command written by United States Government Us Army and published by . This book was released on 2019-08-24 with total page 106 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This manual, Army Doctrine Publication ADP 6-0 Mission Command: Command and Control of Army Forces July 2019, provides a discussion of the fundamentals of mission command, command and control, and the command and control warfighting function. It describes how commanders, supported by their staffs, combine the art and science of command and control to understand situations, make decisions, direct actions, and lead forces toward mission accomplishment. The doctrine in ADP 6-0 forms the foundation for command and control tactics, techniques, and procedures. For an explanation of these tactics and procedures, see FM 6-0, Commander and Staff Organization and Operations. For an explanation of the techniques associated with command and control, see ATP 6-0.5, Command Post Organization and Operations, as well as other supporting techniques publications. The principal audience for ADP 6-0 is Army commanders, leaders, and unit staffs. Mission command demands more from subordinates at all levels, and understanding and practicing the mission command principles during operations and garrison activities are imperative for all members of the Army Profession. This revision to ADP 6-0 represents an evolution of mission command doctrine based upon lessons learned since 2012. The use of the term mission command to describe multiple things-the warfighting function, the system, and a philosophy-created unforeseen ambiguity. Mission command replaced command and control, but in practical application it often meant the same thing. This led to differing expectations among leadership cohorts regarding the appropriate application of mission command during operations and garrison activities. Labeling multiple things mission command unintentionally eroded the importance of mission command, which is critical to the command and control of Army forces across the range of military operations. Differentiating mission command from command and control provides clarity, allows leaders to focus on mission command in the context of the missions they execute, and aligns the Army with joint and multinational partners, all of whom use the term command and control.Command and control-the exercise of authority and direction by a properly designated commander over assigned and attached forces-is fundamental to the art and science of warfare. No single specialized military function, either by itself or combined with others, has a purpose without it. Commanders are responsible for command and control. Through command and control, commanders provide purpose and direction to integrate all military activities towards a common goal-mission accomplishment. Military operations are inherently human endeavors, characterized by violence and continuous adaptation by all participants. Successful execution requires Army forces to make and implement effective decisions faster than enemy forces. Therefore, the Army has adopted mission command as its approach to command and control that empowers subordinate decision making and decentralized execution appropriate to the situation.

Book Army Doctrine Publication Adp 7 0 Training August 2018

Download or read book Army Doctrine Publication Adp 7 0 Training August 2018 written by United States Government U. S. Army and published by Createspace Independent Publishing Platform. This book was released on 2018-09-04 with total page 32 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The purpose of this manual, Army Doctrine Publication ADP 7-0 Training August 2018, to provide the Army the framework leaders follow to effectively ready Soldiers and units to execute unified land operations. Readiness is the Army's number one priority, and training represents the most important activity units do every day to achieve readiness. The Army does this by conducting tough, realistic, standards-based, performance-oriented training. ADP 7-0 is founded on the concept that training management is a logical extension of the Army's operations process. The ideas and concepts of planning, preparing, executing, and assessing operations is fundamentally the same whether the unit trains to achieve readiness at home station or trains to operate when deployed. Learning and applying the concepts, ideas, and terminology of the operations process as units train makes the transition from training to operations more seamless for both leaders and their units-and improves the overall readiness of the force. ADP 7-0 contains four chapters: Chapter 1 introduces the Army's overarching concepts of training Soldiers and units to conduct operations. This chapter discusses the links between unit training and the Army's fulfillment of its strategic roles. It explains the foundations of the Army task hierarchy as individual and collective tasks and the mutually supporting relationship between them. The chapter also introduces the concept of multiechelon training as the primary method of simultaneously training several echelons to replicate how units operate when employed for operations. It discusses a commander's responsibility for developing subordinate leaders, ensuring that trained, competent, and certified leaders lead all unit training. Chapter 2 discusses a commander's pivotal role and activity in training the unit. It discusses the activities of understand, visualize, describe, direct, lead, and assess as the mechanisms commanders employ to drive unit training. The chapter reinforces the necessity of the commander as the unit's primary trainer who determines the tasks to train, the methods the unit will use, and the subordinate leaders' understanding of the standards to attain. The chapter emphasizes the shared and mutual understanding that must exist between the commander and subordinate leaders to ensure unit training proficiency is achieved. Chapter 3 introduces a detailed discussion of each of the Army's principles of training. Units employ effective training based on an understanding and application of the Army's principles of training. These principles provide a broad but essential foundation to guide unit commanders and leaders as they plan, prepare, execute, and assess sustained and effective training. The chapter provides leaders with a base understanding of the most effective concepts of training which are elemental to developing the skills necessary to conduct successful operations. Each principle provides an enduring and central tenet to how all leaders think about and conduct unit training. Chapter 4 describes the major actions and procedures units perform as training is conducted. The chapter begins by discussing the measures of training proficiency and transitions into the concept of battle-focused training-training that develops required operational skills and capabilities. Top-down training guidance provided by the higher commander begins the planning process for subordinate units to develop the most effective training plan possible. The chapter covers how units plan, prepare for, execute, and assess each training event in challenging conditions with the highest fidelity of realism. Training performance is objectively evaluated with the results providing the commander the firm basis for an accurate assessment of unit operational skills and capabilities. The commander's training assessments become the basis of training readiness reporting.
