Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Paths of Armor, first published in 1950, is the account of the historic 5th Armored Division from the time of its formation in October 1941, until the end of the World War II in May 1945. Included in this kindle edition are more than 100 pages of photographs and maps. Because of the secrecy of its missions and the speed at which it moved, the Division was also known as "Patton's Ghosts" (the division was part of Patton's Third Army), and because of its many successes, as the "Victory Division." Following training in the U.S., the Division transferred to England, and landed on Utah Beach in Normandy on July 24, 1944. Then followed months of combat as the Division moved across northern France, Belgium, Luxembourg, and into Germany. In December 1944, the Division took part in the fierce fighting in the Hurtgen Forest and the Battle of the Bulge.

Book excerpt: The military sci-fi classic of courage on a dangerous alien planet The planet is called Banshee. The air is unbreathable, the water is poisonous. It is home to the most implacable enemies that humanity, in all its interstellar expansion, has ever encountered. Body armor has been devised for the commando forces that are to be dropped on Banshee—the culmination of ten thousand years of the armorers’ craft. A trooper in this armor is a one-man, atomic powered battle fortress. But he will have to fight a nearly endless horde of berserk, hard-shelled monsters—the fighting arm of a species which uses biological technology to design perfect, mindless war minions. Felix is a scout in A-team Two. Highly competent, he is the sole survivor of mission after mission. Yet he is a man consumed by fear and hatred. And he is protected, not only by his custom-fitted body armor, but by an odd being which seems to live within him, a cold killing machine he calls “The Engine.” This is Felix’s story—a story of the horror, the courage, and the aftermath of combat, and the story, too, of how strength of spirit can be the greatest armor of all.

Book Spirituality Inner Armor

Download or read book Spirituality Inner Armor written by Jim Amsing and published by FriesenPress. This book was released on 2019-08-02 with total page 168 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Spirituality: Inner Armor provides an antidote to the toxic effects that evil has in the lives of peace officers. True-life police stories from front-line officers portray the reality of evil actions and it’s effects in the lives of everyone involved. When police officers are strong in mind, body, and spirit they can serve with humility, courage, compassion, and hope because they see opportunities to be change agents in society and refuse to succumb to cynicism, apathy, and despair. An informed spirituality that is open to wisdom will lead to an interior peace and harmonic congruence in the inner person that will necessarily reveal itself in outer actions. Peace officers who are willing to constantly grow in knowledge and practice of inner armor spirituality will find tranquility amidst chaos, peace during war, and right action in perplexity. Those who are willing to engage in the battle with evil will have battered shields and dented armor, but the inner armor of spirituality will sustain, renew and guide the guardians of society into the harbor of peace.

Book Islamic Arms and Armor in The Metropolitan Museum of Art

Download or read book Islamic Arms and Armor in The Metropolitan Museum of Art written by David G. Alexander and published by Metropolitan Museum of Art. This book was released on 2015-12-31 with total page 350 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Armor and weaponry were central to Islamic culture not only as a means of conquest and the spread of the faith, but also as symbols of status, wealth, and power. The finest arms were made by master craftsmen working with the leading designers, goldsmiths, and jewelers, whose work transformed utilitarian military equipment into courtly works of art. This book reveals the diversity and artistic quality of one of the most important and encyclopedic collections of its kind in the West. The Metropolitan Museum's holdings span ten centuries and include representative pieces from almost every Islamic culture from Spain to the Caucasus. The collection includes rare early works, among them the oldest documented Islamic sword, and is rich in helmets and body armor, decorated with calligraphy and arabesques, that were worn in Iran and Anatolia in the late fifteenth century. Other masterpieces include a jeweled short sword (yatagan) with a blade of "watered" steel that comes from the court of Süleyman the Magnificent, a seventeenth-century gold-inlaid armor associated with Shah Jahan, and two gold-inlaid flintlock firearms belonging to the guard of Tipu Sultan of Mysore. Presenting 126 objects, each handsomely photographed and richly documented with a detailed description and discussion of its technical, historical, and artistic importance, this overview of the Met's holdings is supplemented by an introductory essay on the formation of the collection, and appendixes on iconography and on Turkman-style armor.
