Book Armenia and Her People

Download or read book Armenia and Her People written by George H. Filian and published by . This book was released on 2015-07-07 with total page 426 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Armenia and Her People: Or the Story of Armenia by an Armenian The problem of Armenia and the Turkish atrocities there, is in the very forefront of the world's burning questions at the present time. In every civilized land it is ranked alongside their own pressing local issues; everywhere there is not only sympathy and indignation, but a feeling of real responsibility. We are a group of Christian nations, and the first Christian nation is being exterminated. Within a few months the unspeakable Turks and barbarous Kurds destroyed more than a thousand villages and towns, murdered a hundred thousand Armenian Christians, - men, women, and innocent children, - and left 500,000 others without homes, clothing, or food, thousands of women shamefully defiled, and thousands of men put to horrible tortures. Dying in the streets, in the fields, on the mountains; dying of hunger, of cold, of storm, and of diseases bred of all these; dying of broken hearts and despair, even more, of shame and mental torture. Yet all these Armenians who thus suffered and were driven forth to starve and die like deserted animals, were absolutely peaceable, - indeed, they were totally unarmed and could not have been otherwise if they wished, - perfectly respectable, most of them comfortably off, and some of them rich. One who was last week a banker is today a beggar; yesterday a merchant, to-day a tramp. Why? For the main reason that he is a Christian, and the Sultan has resolved to have no more Christians in his dominion; the doom of Islamism is hanging over their heads. Book The Armenian Crisis in Turkey

Download or read book The Armenian Crisis in Turkey written by Frederick Davis Greene and published by . This book was released on 2015-07-05 with total page 210 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Armenian Crisis in Turkey: The Massacre of 1894, Its Antecedents and Significance With a Consideration of Some of the Factors, Which Enter Into the Solution of This, Phase of the Eastern Question This is an important book. It deals with a burning question, and in a way which will command public attention and public confidence. The author is thoroughly equipped for his task. Birth, residence, and travel in Turkey have made him personally acquainted with the situation which he discusses, and the independence of his position enables him to write without restraint and without prejudice. After nearly four years of service as a missionary of the American Board in Van, the centre of Armenia, during which no criticism of his course was ever made either by the Board or by the Turkish Government, he was recently ordered by his physician to return to America. Having resigned his connection with the American Board, he writes as the representative of no society, religious or political, and is connected with none. In issuing this book he is simply discharging what to him is a personal and unavoidable obligation; and as he frankly avows its authorship, it will be impossible for. the Turkish Government to hold any one else responsible for it. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Armenia's Ordeal: A Sketch of the Main Features of the History of Armenia; An Inside Account of the Work of American Missionaries Among Armenians, and Its Ruinous Effect; And a General Review of the Armenian Question The name of Truth is applauded by all, but Truth it self is very disagreeable and unwelcome to many. Know ing this, I have resolved to cling fast to the truth, to say nothing but the truth, and to say a good deal of the truth that I know in relation to my subject, unmindful of its consequences. The Turkish proverb says He that will speak truth shall have a hole in his head. It is risky sometimes to speak truth. But what do I risk except myself and what am I in comparison with the sacred cause for which I come forth to speak Q The sa cred cause of my martyred nation demands of me to speak out, and to speak the truth for the best interests and the only hope of my people lie in the revelation of the truth. Therefore I must speak the truth at all hazards. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books.
