Book excerpt: Genealogists and other historical researchers have valued the first two editions of this work, often referred to as the genealogist's bible."" The new edition continues that tradition. Intended as a handbook and a guide to selecting, locating, and using appropriate primary and secondary resources, The Source also functions as an instructional tool for novice genealogists and a refresher course for experienced researchers. More than 30 experts in this field--genealogists, historians, librarians, and archivists--prepared the 20 signed chapters, which are well written, easy to read, and include many helpful hints for getting the most out of whatever information is acquired. Each chapter ends with an extensive bibliography and is further enriched by tables, black-and-white illustrations, and examples of documents. Eight appendixes include the expected contact information for groups and institutions that persons studying genealogy and history need to find. ""

Download or read book Descendants of William Cromartie and Ruhamah Doane written by Amanda Cook Gilbert and published by WestBow Press. This book was released on 2013 with total page 795 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This ambitious work chronicles 250 years of the Cromartie Family genealogical history. Included in the index of nearly 50,000 names are the current generations, and all of those preceding, which trace ancestry to our family patriarch, William Cromartie who was born in 1731 in Orkney, Scotland and his second wife, Ruhamah Doane who was born in 1745. Arriving in America in 1758, William Cromartie settled and developed a plantation on South River, a tributary of the Cape Fear near Wilmington, North Carolina. On April 2, 1766, William married Ruhamah Doane, a fifth generation descendant of a Mayflower passenger to Plymouth, Stephen Hopkins. If Cromartie is your last name, or that of one of your blood relatives, it is almost certain that you can trace your ancestry to one of the thirteen children of William Cromartie, his first wife, and Ruhamah Doane, who became the founding ancestors of our Cromartie Family in America: William Jr, James, Thankful, Elizabeth, Hannah Ruhamah, Alexander, John, Margaret Nancy, Mary, Catherine, Jean, Peter Patrick, and Ann E. Cromartie. These four volumes hold an account of the descent of each of these first-generation Cromarties in America, including personal antidotes, photographs, copies of family Bibles, wills and other historical documents. Their pages hold a personal record of our ancestors and where you belong in the Cromartie Family Tree.

Download or read book First Census of Kentucky 1790 written by Gaius Marcus Brumbaugh and published by . This book was released on 2012-02 with total page 134 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The First Census of the United States (1790) comprised an enumeration of the inhabitants of the present states of Connecticut, Delaware, Georgia, Kentucky, Maine, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New York, North Carolina, Pennsylvania, Rhode Island, South Carolina, Tennessee, Vermont, and Virginia. Unfortunately, during the War of 1812, when the British burned the Capitol at Washington, the returns for several states were destroyed, including those for Virginia, of which Kentucky was a part. In 1940, this "First Census" of Kentucky: 1790, was published, being developed from tax lists from the nine counties which comprised the entire State in 1790. Individuals are listed alphabetically, and following each name is the county of residence and the date of the return. The cumulative returns for Kentucky are included on page one. Also included at the end of the book are the "Land and Tax List of King George County [VA], 1782;" "Personal Tax List of Fayette County, 1788;" "Personal Tax List No. 2 of Fayette County, 1787;" "Land Tax List of Prince William County [VA], 1784;" and the "Land Tax List of Charles City County, 1787." More than 10,000 names listed in this work. Paperback, (1940), repr. 2000, 2012, Alphabetical, viii, 118 pp.

Download or read book The Duke Family 2 0 written by Larry W. Duke and published by Grimoire Press International. This book was released on 2022-06-03 with total page 650 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume covers the 3rd Generation of Descendants, 2nd Generation of Descendants, 1st Generation of Descendants, Generation of Peers, and the 1st Generation of Ancestors. Larry has been working on his genealogy for several years and has amassed a substantial amount of information about the Duke Family of Group 2. His collection consists of paper documents, electronic documents, information stored in online databases, and a plethora of information gathered from family members he met online while on his quest for the truth about his family. Jennifer Ann Hatfield, a professional genealogist with 30 years of experience, is credited with igniting Larry's interest in family history and research. After years of arduous work, his family history was finally ready to be released into the public domain. "I believe our gateway ancestor to be William Ducke (Duke), who was born in 1620 in England," writes the author. William most likely came from Devonshire, England, and landed in Warrosquyouke County, Virginia (later known as Isle of Wight County), according to historians. William was sponsored by businessman Justinian Cooper, who sponsored and received land grants for dozens of immigrants to IOW Virginia during the colony's early history. In 1637, William is believed to have made the actual voyage on "The George." In Isle of Wight County, near the Old Cypress Swamp, William Ducke established his home. John Duke, who was born in 1640, was the first group 2 ancestor to be born in colonial America. He married Elizabeth King, and the Duke line of Group 2 was officially "born."
