Download or read book Arizona s Instrument to Measure Standards AIMS DPA Student Guide Grade 8 written by Arizona. State Department of Education and published by . This book was released on 2006 with total page 41 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Arizona's Instrument to Measure Standards (AIMS), a Standards-Based test, provides educators and the public with valuable information regarding the progress of Arizona's students toward mastering Arizona's reading, writing and mathematics Standards. This specific test, Arizona's Instrument to Measure Standards Dual Purpose Assessment (AIMS DPA) is a combination of two separate tests. One test is AIMS, which measures how well the eighth grade student knows the reading, writing, and mathematics content that all Arizona students in this grade level are expected to know and be able to do. AIMS DPA includes multiple-choice questions in reading and mathematics and one extended writing response. The other test included in the AIMS DPA is the TerraNova, which compares students' performance in reading, language arts, and mathematics to the performance of other students in their grade level nationwide. The TerraNova test questions are all multiple-choice questions. They are embedded in the reading and mathematics sections of the AIMS DPA test. Test items were written to measure specifically the Standards, Concepts, and Performance Objectives described in the Arizona Academic Standards. Standards were articulated by grade level for reading and mathematics and approved by the state Board of Education in March 2003. Reading and mathematics items are multiple-choice. There are no multiple-choice questions on the writing test. The Writing Standard was articulated by grade level and approved by the state Board of Education in June 2004. There will be an extended writing prompt that students will use to actively engage in the writing process. The student's writing is scored using the Six Trait Rubric [TM]. This guide is divided into the three subject areas assessed on AIMS DPA. It gives a short explanation of each testing format, hints for test taking, sample test questions, and a scoring guide for written responses. It does not teach the student what they should know and be able to do to score well on the tests, but it will help them become familiar with the tests. The sections of this guide contain: (1) AIMS DPA FAQ; (2) Reading; (3) Writing; (4) Mathematics; (5) Scoring Keys; (6) Six Trait Writing Rubric; (7) AIMS DPA Mathematics Reference Sheet; (8) Test-Taking Strategies; and (9) a section for writing notes.

Book Arizona s Instrument to Measure Standards AIMS HS Student Guide

Download or read book Arizona s Instrument to Measure Standards AIMS HS Student Guide written by Arizona. State Department of Education and published by . This book was released on 2006 with total page 42 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Arizona's Instrument to Measure Standards High School (AIMS HS) is an assessment program that measures high school students' achievement of the Arizona Academic Standards adopted by the state Board of Education in three subject areas: reading, writing, and mathematics. All students in high school are required to participate in AIMS HS testing. Test items were written to measure specifically the Standards, Concepts , and Performance Objectives described in the Arizona Academic Standards. Standards were articulated by grade level for reading and mathematics and approved by the state Board of Education in March 2003. Reading and mathematics items are multiple-choice. There are no multiple-choice questions on the writing test. Writing was articulated by grade level and approved by the state Board of Education in June 2004. There is an extended writing prompt that students will use to actively engage in the writing process. Students' writing is scored using the Six Trait Rubric [TM]. Each of the Standards is built on a structured framework that spans kindergarten to twelfth grade, representing concepts and skills that the students have been learning since starting school. Within these Standards are the Concepts and Performance Objectives that are specific to each grade level. Although all Standards (reading, writing and mathematics) are assessed each time AIMS is given, different Concepts and Performance Objectives are tested on different forms of the tests. Therefore, students need to be prepared for all Concepts and Performance Objectives in each Standard. This guide is divided into the three subject areas assessed on AIMS HS. It includes a short explanation of each testing format, hints for test taking, sample test questions, and a scoring guide for the written response. It does not teach students what they should know and be able to do to score well on the tests, but it will help them become familiar with the tests. This guide presents sections on: (1) AIMS HS FAQ; (2) Reading; (3) Writing; (4) Mathematics; (5) Scoring Keys; (6) Six Trait Writing Rubric; (7) AIMS HS Mathematics Reference Sheet; (8) Test-Taking Strategies; and (9) a page for writing notes.
