Book The Armenians in the Medieval Islamic World

Download or read book The Armenians in the Medieval Islamic World written by Seta B. Dadoyan and published by Transaction Publishers. This book was released on 2011-11-30 with total page 236 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this first of a massive three-volume work, Seta B. Dadoyan studies the Armenian experience in the medieval Islamic world and takes the reader through hitherto undiscovered paradigmatic cases of interaction with other populations in the region. Being an Armenian, Dadoyan argues, means having an ethnic ancestry laden with narratives drawn from the vast historic Armenian habitat. Contradictory trends went into the making of Armenian history, yet most narratives fail to reflect this rich texture. Linking Armenian-Islamic history is one way of dealing with the problem. Dadoyan’s concern is also to outline revolutionary elements in the making of Armenian ideologies and politics. This extensive work captures the multidimensional nature of the Armenian experience in the medieval Islamic world. The author holds that every piece of literature, including historical writing, is an artifact. It is a composition of many elements arranged in certain forms: order, sequence, proportion, detail, intensity, etc. The author has composed and arranged the larger subjects and their sub-themes in such a way as to create an open, dynamic continuity to Armenian history that is intellectually intriguing, aesthetically appealing, and close to lived experiences.

Book The Fractured Mate

  • Pages : 476 pages

Download or read book The Fractured Mate written by Susan Trombley and published by . This book was released on 2020-02-24 with total page 476 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As a captive of aliens, Paisley is forced to work as an engineering assistant on an ancient wrecker starship. She knows she has to keep her head down and her behavior humble in order to survive. When the crew responds to an automated distress call from an Akrellian warship that shouldn't be malfunctioning, she senses a threat, but she knows no one will listen to her warnings. Paisley realizes that her days of avoiding danger are over when, among the rescued passengers, trouble with a capital "T" is escorted onto her ship-in chains for bringing an apocalypse to Earth that resulted in millions of deaths.Something about the prisoner makes it impossible for her to look away from him, and it isn't just the fact that he's the most handsome alien she's ever seen. Yet, when he meets her eyes, there's a darkness in his intense gaze that makes her think his captors might be telling the truth about him, despite his claims of innocence.Caught between two greedy groups seeking wealth and power, Paisley soon discovers that far more lies behind the mystery surrounding the Iriduan prisoner they call Halian. He might be stealing her heart, but she can't keep him in chains, because he could be the key to saving the galaxy-or destroying it.This isn't a light read, featuring a sweet-from-the-start hero. The main male character has villainous facets to him that do not immediately soften in this slower-burn romance. The journey to love will be very rough at times. If you're in the mood for a complex villain seeking redemption through love, a plucky, intelligent heroine willing to risk it all, and a story packed with action and romance that finally blows the doors off the galactic mystery that has lurked beneath the surface of the Iriduan Test Subjects series, then this book is for you.

Book The Palgrave Handbook of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan

Download or read book The Palgrave Handbook of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan written by P. R. Kumaraswamy and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2019-11-30 with total page 545 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This Handbook presents a broad yet nuanced portrait of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, its socio-political rifts, economic challenges, foreign policy priorities and historical complexities. The Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan has traditionally been an oasis of peace and stability in the ever-turbulent Middle East. The political ambitions of regional powers, often expressed in the form of territorial aggrandisement, have followed the Hashemites like an inseparable shadow. The scarcity of natural resources, especially water, has been compounded by the periodic influx of refugees from its neighbours. As a result, many—Arab and non-Arab alike—have questioned the longevity and survival of Jordan. These uncertainties were compounded when the founding ruler, King Abdullah I, became involved in the nascent Palestinian problem at the end of World War II. The annexation of the eastern part of Mandate Palestine or the West Bank in the wake of the 1948 War transformed the Jordanian demography and sowed the seeds of an uneasy relationship with the Palestinian component of its population, citizens, residents and refugees. Though better natural resources and stronger leaders have not ensured political stability in many Arab and non-Arab countries, Jordan has been an exception. Indeed, since its formation as an Emirate by the British in 1921, the Kingdom has seen only four rulers, a testimony to the sagacity and political foresight of the Hashemites. The Hashemites have managed to sustain the semi-rentier model primarily through international aid and assistance, which in turn inhibits Jordan from pursuing rapid political and economic reforms. Though a liberal, multi-religious and multicultural society, Jordan has been hampered by social cleavages especially between the tribal population and the forces of modernization.

Claire has never really fit in with everyone around her, but she's carved out a life for herself using her own unique style and artistic ability to support herself on the Internet. The last thing she expects is to be abducted by aliens and dropped into a research facility, where a genetically-engineered alien soldier chooses her as his life-mate. Thrax's pheromones are compelling, and his status as a fellow unwilling test subject makes them allies, but Claire isn't certain she can trust someone who is convinced she belongs to him, when all she wants to do is find a way to return home to Earth-a place that her devoted alien can never follow, because there's no way the scorpion-like alien would ever be able to pass for human. Still, she'll accept help where she can find it, so she doesn't hesitate to escape with Thrax from the facility, though their time running from their pursuers in the warrens beneath the research facility will forever change Claire, and could make it impossible for her to return to Earth.
