Book British Versions of Book II of Euclid s Elements Geometry Arithmetic Algebra 1550 1750

Download or read book British Versions of Book II of Euclid s Elements Geometry Arithmetic Algebra 1550 1750 written by Leo Corry and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-09-12 with total page 79 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book discusses the changing conceptions about the relationship between geometry and arithmetic within the Euclidean tradition that developed in the British context of the sixteenth and seventeenth century. Its focus is on Book II of the Elements and the ways in which algebraic symbolism and methods, especially as recently introduced by François Viète and his followers, took center stage as mediators between the two realms, and thus offered new avenues to work out that relationship in idiosyncratic ways not found in earlier editions of the Euclidean text. Texts examined include Robert Recorde's Pathway to Knowledge (1551), Henry Billingsley’s first English translation of the Elements (1570), Clavis Mathematicae by William Oughtred and Artis Analyticae Praxis by Thomas Harriot (both published in 1631), Isaac Barrow’s versions of the Elements (1660), and John Wallis Treatise of Algebra (1685), and the English translations of Claude Dechales’ French Euclidean Elements (1685). This book offers a completely new perspective of the topic and analyzes mostly unexplored material. It will be of interest to historians of mathematics, mathematicians with an interest in history and historians of renaissance science in general.

Book Elementary Mathematics from a Higher Standpoint

Download or read book Elementary Mathematics from a Higher Standpoint written by Felix Klein and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-06-28 with total page 312 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: These three volumes constitute the first complete English translation of Felix Klein’s seminal series “Elementarmathematik vom höheren Standpunkte aus”. “Complete” has a twofold meaning here: First, there now exists a translation of volume III into English, while until today the only translation had been into Chinese. Second, the English versions of volume I and II had omitted several, even extended parts of the original, while we now present a complete revised translation into modern English. The volumes, first published between 1902 and 1908, are lecture notes of courses that Klein offered to future mathematics teachers, realizing a new form of teacher training that remained valid and effective until today: Klein leads the students to gain a more comprehensive and methodological point of view on school mathematics. The volumes enable us to understand Klein’s far-reaching conception of elementarisation, of the “elementary from a higher standpoint”, in its implementation for school mathematics. This volume I is devoted to what Klein calls the three big “A’s”: arithmetic, algebra and analysis. They are presented and discussed always together with a dimension of geometric interpretation and visualisation - given his epistemological viewpoint of mathematics being based in space intuition. A particularly revealing example for elementarisation is his chapter on the transcendence of e and p, where he succeeds in giving concise yet well accessible proofs for the transcendence of these two numbers. It is in this volume that Klein makes his famous statement about the double discontinuity between mathematics teaching at schools and at universities – it was his major aim to overcome this discontinuity.

Book Eureka Math Algebra II Study Guide

Download or read book Eureka Math Algebra II Study Guide written by Great Minds and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2016-06-29 with total page 163 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The team of teachers and mathematicians who created Eureka Math™ believe that it's not enough for students to know the process for solving a problem; they need to know why that process works. That's why students who learn math with Eureka can solve real-world problems, even those they have never encountered before. The Study Guides are a companion to the Eureka Math program, whether you use it online or in print. The guides collect the key components of the curriculum for each grade in a single volume. They also unpack the standards in detail so that anyone—even non-Eureka users—can benefit. The guides are particularly helpful for teachers or trainers seeking to undertake or lead a meaningful study of the grade level content in a way that highlights the coherence between modules and topics. We're here to make sure you succeed with an ever-growing library of resources. Take advantage of the full set of Study Guides available for each grade, PK-12, or materials at eureka-math.org, such as free implementation and pacing guides, material lists, parent resources, and more.

Book Recent Applications of Harmonic Analysis to Function Spaces Differential Equations and Data Science

Download or read book Recent Applications of Harmonic Analysis to Function Spaces Differential Equations and Data Science written by Isaac Pesenson and published by Birkhäuser. This book was released on 2017-08-09 with total page 510 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The second of a two volume set on novel methods in harmonic analysis, this book draws on a number of original research and survey papers from well-known specialists detailing the latest innovations and recently discovered links between various fields. Along with many deep theoretical results, these volumes contain numerous applications to problems in signal processing, medical imaging, geodesy, statistics, and data science. The chapters within cover an impressive range of ideas from both traditional and modern harmonic analysis, such as: the Fourier transform, Shannon sampling, frames, wavelets, functions on Euclidean spaces, analysis on function spaces of Riemannian and sub-Riemannian manifolds, Fourier analysis on manifolds and Lie groups, analysis on combinatorial graphs, sheaves, co-sheaves, and persistent homologies on topological spaces. Volume II is organized around the theme of recent applications of harmonic analysis to function spaces, differential equations, and data science, covering topics such as: The classical Fourier transform, the non-linear Fourier transform (FBI transform), cardinal sampling series and translation invariant linear systems. Recent results concerning harmonic analysis on non-Euclidean spaces such as graphs and partially ordered sets. Applications of harmonic analysis to data science and statistics Boundary-value problems for PDE's including the Runge–Walsh theorem for the oblique derivative problem of physical geodesy.
