Book Aristoteles Gesammelte Werke

Download or read book Aristoteles Gesammelte Werke written by Aristoteles and published by DigiCat. This book was released on 2023-11-14 with total page 1842 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle.

Book excerpt: Anyone interested in theories of moral or human practice will find in Aristotle’s Nicomachean Ethics one of the few basic models relevant through to today. At the centre of his analysis, both sober and cautious, are such concepts as happiness, virtue, choice, prudence, incontinence, pleasure and friendship. Aristotle’s arguments are by no means of merely historical interest, but continue to exert a key influence on present-day ethical debate.

Download or read book Heidegger and Aristotle written by Walter A. Brogan and published by State University of New York Press. This book was released on 2012-02-01 with total page 228 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Walter A. Brogan's long-awaited book exploring Heidegger's phenomenological reading of Aristotle's philosophy places particular emphasis on the Physics, Metaphysics, Ethics, and Rhetoric. Controversial and challenging, Heidegger and Aristotle claims that it is Heidegger's sustained thematic focus and insight that governs his overall reading of Aristotle, namely, that Aristotle, while attempting to remain faithful to the Parmenidean dictum regarding the oneness and unity of being, nevertheless thinks of being as twofold. Brogan offers a careful and detailed analysis of several of the most important of Heidegger's treatises on Aristotle, including his assertion that Aristotle's twofoldness of being has been ignored or misread in the traditional substance-oriented readings of Aristotle. This groundbreaking study contributes immensely to the scholarship of a growing community of ancient Greek scholars engaged in phenomenological approaches to the reading and understanding of Aristotle.

Book The Weimar Origins of Rhetorical Inquiry

Download or read book The Weimar Origins of Rhetorical Inquiry written by David L. Marshall and published by University of Chicago Press. This book was released on 2020-11-09 with total page 381 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Weimar origins of political theory is a widespread and powerful narrative, but this singular focus leaves out another intellectual history that historian David L. Marshall works to reveal: the Weimar origins of rhetorical inquiry. Marshall focuses his attention on Martin Heidegger, Hannah Arendt, Walter Benjamin, and Aby Warburg, revealing how these influential thinkers inflected and transformed problems originally set out by Max Weber, Carl Schmitt, Theodor Adorno, Hans Baron, and Leo Strauss. He contends that we miss major opportunities if we do not attend to the rhetorical aspects of their thought, and his aim, in the end, is to lay out an intellectual history that can become a zone of theoretical experimentation in para-democratic times. Redescribing the Weimar origins of political theory in terms of rhetorical inquiry, Marshall provides fresh readings of pivotal thinkers and argues that the vision of rhetorical inquiry that they open up allows for new ways of imagining political communities today.

Book The Poetics of Aristotle and the Tractatus Coislinianus

Download or read book The Poetics of Aristotle and the Tractatus Coislinianus written by O.J. Schrier and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2018-07-17 with total page 360 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The bibliography of Aristotle's Poetics by Cooper and Gudeman, most welcome in 1928, has now become antiquated, even for the period it covers. The present one registers all editions, translations, commentaries and studies bearing on the Poetics or the major concepts that have been associated with it, correctly or incorrectly, from 1481 up till 1996. Moreover, a survey is given of the medieval translations and commentaries written in the Orient and in Europe. Special attention has been given to the reviews. The oldest one registered dates from 1697. The second book of the Poetics being lost, publications related to the Tractatus Coislinianus, which partly rests on Poetics II, have been included. There are seven indices. Especially those on passages and subjects should prove to be useful instruments. In the author's text Greek nouns and adjectives have been transliterated.

Book Aristotle s Moral Realism Reconsidered

Download or read book Aristotle s Moral Realism Reconsidered written by Pavlos Kontos and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2013-03-01 with total page 333 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book elaborates a moral realism of phenomenological inspiration by introducing the idea that moral experience, primordially, constitutes a perceptual grasp of actions and of their solid traces in the world. The main thesis is that, before any reference to values or to criteria about good and evil—that is, before any reference to specific ethical outlooks—one should explain the very materiality of what necessarily constitutes the ‘moral world’. These claims are substantiated by means of a text- centered interpretation of Aristotle’s Nicomachean Ethics in dialogue with contemporary moral realism. The book concludes with a critique of Heidegger’s, Gadamer’s and Arendt’s approaches to Aristotle’s ethics.
