Buzz on in for the adventure of a life time by reading the How Mother Nature stories! Mother Nature has a terrible dilemma. Supreme Queen Bee, Queen Bluefire, no longer wants the responsibility of getting all the flowers to grow. Her bees want to play and have fun. They no longer want to work to pollinate the flowers. Oh dear, what's Mother Nature to do? Reviews from educators... "In the tradition of established folk and fairy tales, Mr. Schwartz has created a variety of engaging characters in this imaginative environmental trilogy. The message of preservation of humans and their environment is an important one for our youth." Dr. Richard Di Patri, Superintendent, Brevard Public Schools, Florida "The environment and conservation are becoming increasingly important to keeping our planet livable. Tom Schwartz has written a book to help children understand the importance of each creature in the scheme of things. The three stories in this book are tied together by the interaction of the wonderful, believable characters... The stories are well plotted with plenty of action and peril to keep even reluctant readers interested. The story shows how teamwork really pays off, and how the action of one can affect the whole planet. The vulnerability of the earth and it's creatures is stressed, and the whole ties in nicely with school curriculum. Tom Schwartz is a gifted writer, and this is a much needed contribution to children's literature and a great addition to your child's library." Beverly J. Rowe, MyShelf.com "Tom's stories about Mother Nature and her helpers left a big impact on the children, which will help make our Earth a cleaner place." Diane Goodson, Curriculum Resource Teacher, Eccleston Elementary School, Orlando, Florida "Tom visited out school and the children were enthralled with his stories about Mother Nature. Great message about saving the environment." Maureen Tassone, Media Specialist, Christa McAuliffe Elementary School, Palm Bay, Florida "Tom's Mother Nature stories reinforce what we teach about the environment. As the field matures, it is high time to review progress, explore the links between this new research area and fundamental ecological concepts, and look ahead to the implementation of this knowledge. This book is designed to both provide an up-to-date overview of research in the area and to serve as a useful textbook for those studying the relationship between biodiversity and the functioning, stability and services of ecosystems. The Ecological and Societal Consequences of Biodiversity Loss is aimed at a wide audience of upper undergraduate students, postgraduate students, and academic and research staff.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: I am Meredith Gentry, princess and heir apparent to the throne in the realm of faerie, onetime private investigator in the mortal world. To be crowned queen, I must first continue the royal bloodline and give birth to an heir of my own. If I fail, my aunt, Queen Andais, will be free to do what she most desires: install her twisted son, Cel, as monarch . . . and kill me. My royal guards surround me, and my best loved–my Darkness and my Killing Frost–are always beside me, sworn to protect and make love to me. But still the threat grows greater. For despite all my carnal efforts, I remain childless, while the machinations of my sinister, sadistic Queen and her confederates remain tireless. So my bodyguards and I have slipped back into Los Angeles, hoping to outrun the gathering shadows of court intrigue. But even exile isn’t enough to escape the grasp of those with dark designs. Now King Taranis, powerful and vainglorious ruler of faerie’s Seelie Court, has leveled accusations against my noble guards of a heinous crime–and has gone so far as to ask the mortal authorities to prosecute. If he succeeds, my men face extradition to faerie and the hideous penalties that await them there. But I know that Taranis’s charges are baseless, and I sense that his true target is me. He tried to kill me when I was a child. Now I fear his intentions are far more terrifying.

Book Evolutionary Ecology of Plant Herbivore Interaction

Download or read book Evolutionary Ecology of Plant Herbivore Interaction written by Juan Núñez-Farfán and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2020-07-30 with total page 378 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Plant-herbivore interactions are a central topic in evolutionary ecology. Historically, their study has been a cornerstone for coevolutionary theory. Starting from classic ecological studies at the phenotypic level, it has since expanded to molecular and genomic approaches. After a historical perspective, the book’s subsequent chapters cover a wide range of topics: from populations to ecosystems; plant- and herbivore-focused studies; in natural and in man-modified ecosystems; and both micro- and macro-evolutionary levels. All chapters include valuable background information and empirical evidence. Given its scope, the book will be of interest to both students and researchers, and will hopefully stimulate further research in this exciting field of evolutionary biology.

Book Prospects for Biological Control of Plant Feeding Mites and Other Harmful Organisms

Download or read book Prospects for Biological Control of Plant Feeding Mites and Other Harmful Organisms written by Daniel Carrillo and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-04-30 with total page 337 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The history of biological control of harmful organisms by mites is marked by outstanding achievements with a few premiere natural enemies. Early works concentrated on the use of predatory mites for the control of synanthropic flies, More recently, the focus has been mostly on mites of the family Phytoseiidae for the control of plant feeding mites. This is an important family of acarine predators of plant pest mites, which are effectively used in agriculture worldwide. Besides the vast knowledge in several species in this family, there are as well many opportunities for biological control, represented in an array of organisms and through the improvement of management techniques, which are constantly explored by researchers worldwide. This has resulted in an increasing interest in predatory mite species within the families Stigmaeidae, Ascidae, Laelapidae, Rhodacaroidea, Macrochelidae, Erythraeidae and Cheyletidae, among others. This book will compile important developments with predatory mite species within these families, which are emerging as important tools for integrated pest management. New developments with predatory insects and pathogenic organisms attacking mites will also be a subject of this book. Finally, the potential and gaps in knowledge in biological control of acarine plant pests will be addressed.
