Book excerpt: “...a true masterpiece.” -OnlineBookClub.org “...a mindblowing psychological thriller.” -Discovery Reviews “...this is a thriller …concept, action and danger pay dividends …the reader can’t resist going forward to find out how it all connects.” -Kirkus Reviews -Dr. Finch donates over half of all his royalties to support mental health awareness, opioid crisis relief, and veterans with PTSD. He is forever thankful for the support that saved him after a traumatic childhood and is committed to paying it forward. "Arctic Revelation" by Dr. Hugh Finch is a captivating psychological thriller that masterfully weaves together suspense, mystery, and paranormal elements into an engaging narrative. Drawing deeply from Dr. Finch's personal experiences in Scandinavia and academia, this debut novel provides a unique glimpse into the cultural mysteries of Denmark, a country renowned for being one of the world’s best countries to live and home to some of the happiest people on earth. The story revolves around Christian Yates, a character shaped by a traumatic childhood event leading to his father's death, amnesia, and a frustraiting nervous tics. As an Assistant Professor in psychology, his promising career faces threats from a manipulative department chair and a patient with an unprecedented case of multiple personality disorder. Amidst these challenges, Christian becomes the target of a sinister serial killer, 'The Surgeon', pulling him into a deadly game of cat and mouse. Set against the contrasting backdrops of a tranquil Rhode Island university and the mystical landscapes of Denmark, Greenland, and Switzerland, the novel takes the reader on an exhilarating chase for the truth. Christian's quest leads him to Greenland's icy terrains, in search of an ancient psychotropic elixir lost in the vast seas of time. This elixir is not just a key to healing Christian's psyche but also a gateway to unlocking primal human memories, presenting him with a life-altering choice. Finch's novel is praised for its unique blend of speculative science and murder mystery, touching upon themes like psychedelic-assisted therapy, Danish culture, the opioid crisis, life in academia, repressed trauma, the plight of Indigenous peoples, and the pressing issue of climate change. The early chapters set the stage for Christian's background, alternating between his present-day struggles and past encounters, including the traumatic incident that leads to a patient's murder, for which Christian is initially blamed. As Christian delves deeper into his research on ancestral memories, the plot thickens with international intrigue, involving a Danish pharmaceutical company with dubious intentions and a series of disguises and deceptions by various characters, including The Surgeon. The narrative builds to a climactic revelation culminating in a shocking 'whodunit' conclusion that has kept even the most seasoned readers captivated and guessing right till the end.

Book excerpt: Visitors to the Arctic enter places that have been traditionally imagined as otherworldly. This strangeness fascinated audiences in nineteenth-century Britain when the idea of the heroic explorer voyaging through unmapped zones reached its zenith. The Spectral Arctic re-thinks our understanding of Arctic exploration by paying attention to the importance of dreams and ghosts in the quest for the Northwest Passage. The narratives of Arctic exploration that we are all familiar with today are just the tip of the iceberg: they disguise a great mass of mysterious and dimly lit stories beneath the surface. In contrast to oft-told tales of heroism and disaster, this book reveals the hidden stories of dreaming and haunted explorers, of frozen mummies, of rescue balloons, visits to Inuit shamans, and of the entranced female clairvoyants who travelled to the Arctic in search of John Franklin’s lost expedition. Through new readings of archival documents, exploration narratives, and fictional texts, these spectral stories reflect the complex ways that men and women actually thought about the far North in the past. This revisionist historical account allows us to make sense of current cultural and political concerns in the Canadian Arctic about the location of Franklin’s ships.

Book The Book of Revelation Uncovered

Download or read book The Book of Revelation Uncovered written by Samuel Jungsoo Kim and published by 도서출판 의제당. This book was released on 2023-03-06 with total page 319 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Book of Revelation is a prophecy of “things which must shortly take place” in the last days. The climax of Revelation is when the seventh trumpet blasts. That will be the second coming of Jesus in the air and the moment the righteous will enter the glory of the first resurrection and rapture. Those who “overcame” the harsh oppression and persecution of the beast rising out of the sea and the other beast coming up out of the earth “shall all be changed--in a moment, in the twinkling of an eye, at the last trumpet” (1 Cor 15:51) blast and raptured. However, all sinners, including Christian sinners, will remain on this earth and receive seven bowls of God’s wrath. Then comes the Millennial Kingdom, the Second Resurrection of sinners, and the Eternal Judgment. God’s providence ends with the righteous entering the “New Jerusalem,” the City of Heaven, coming down from above. There the righteous will enjoy eternal rest and happiness. Maranatha! Come, Lord Jesus!

With recent documentation of how warmer arctic climate might affect the sea ice habitat of polar bears, the predictions of even warmer climate in the next decades, and documentation of effects on polar bears subpopulations, an evaluation of the red list status of polar bear subpopulations was followed by an increased conservation designation of vulnerable. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Who Speaks for the Oceans? The question has been asked a lot in recent years - just who is looking out for our oceans? Covering over seventy percent of the earth's surface it is the world's largest common property resource, jojntly owned by over six billion humans. It is the foundation for life on earth as we know it. Over the years, many people have spoken about various aspects of our ocean environments and they have spoken to different audiences in many different ways. For many in the public realm, Jacques Cousteau spoke for the ocean. Since his passing, no single voice with the sallle public identity or recognition has emerged. Certainly the many governments bordering our oceans cannot agree on common principles or issues of ocean use and management. We might be tempted think that we do not have an ocean spokesperson or champion, but we would be wrong. Today, the rapidly growing number of scientists working hard to expand our under standing of our ocean realm are the ocean voices we should listen to. At the same time as our scientists advance their understanding of the oceans, we all need to advance our abilities and commitment to communicate on behalf of the oceans with broader and broader audiences who need to be aware of where things stand. Often called "the last great frontier", earth's oceans are vast, widely varied, and are hard to get to, arid into, to do the research we need done.

Book Reflections and Musings From the Book of Revelation

This book was released on 2023-12-27 with total page 310 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: John had been left out on Patmos to die alone. The courts assumed that there was nothing he could do there to promote Jesus. But they miscalculated. God chose John to write the book of Revelation, which some refer to as Apocalypse. That word means the revelation of what will take place in the Incarnation hidden in a humble form. It means to uncover. If you are frying fish, everyone around is aware of the distinctively rich aroma. The person cooking the fish does not have to be seen and the fish does not have to be seen, but the person smelling the aroma instinctively wants to take a closer look at the fish. This is an example of the Apocalypse. What we surmised is revealed. Satan hates the book of Revelation because it shows him for who and what he is. He is counting on us to be afraid of the book because it foretells his end. Join the author as she takes a detailed look at the book that describes the years leading to the end of the world.
