The affection occurred every two or three months. After being under Observation for over a year, erythema iris lesions appeared on the back Of the hands in one attack, and the patient then remembered that he had had a similar attack some years before. SO far as I can determine from a review of the literature and current textbooks, there are no other reports of cases of erythema multiforme confined to the mucous membranes. This book was released on 2017-02-08 with total page 800 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Archives of Dermatology and Syphilology, 1920, Vol. 1: Succeeding Vol. 38, 1919, the Journal of Cutaneous Diseases Although the monumental work of Sabouraud and his followers has thrown a flood of light on the whole subject Of ringworm in the past twenty - five years, this light has shone chiefly for the dermatologist and in some instances apparently rather dimly for him. The general practitioner still gropes in Cimmerian darkness; for him ringworm is still nothing more than bald, scaly patches on the scalps of children or scaly rings on the non-hairy surfaces; eczematoid ringworm and the deep inflammatory trichophytoses Of animal origin do not exist for him - they are a term incognita Whose borders he has not even seen, let alone entered on. It is only by the persistent reporting the less common forms Of the disease that we can hope to teach him that infec tion by the trichophyton and other nearly related fungi may produce cutaneous diseases with widely varying symptoms presenting none Of the clinical features commonly associated with ringworm, and that such infection occasionally produces severe inflammatory symptoms and even, in rare instance, destruction of tissue. It is partly for this reason, but more especially because they present some features of unusual interest to the dermatologist, that the two cases here described. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Archives of Dermatology and Syphilology, 1920, Vol. 2: Succeeding Vol. 38, 1919, the Journal of Cutaneous Diseases Lichen nitidus was first described by Pinkus,1 in 1901, and in an exhaustive paper On the subject, which he Contributed to Neisser's Festschrift, in 1907, the Berlin dermatologist gave a detailed clinical and histologic report of nine cases Of the disorder. Since that time, examples have been recorded by Arndt 2 Kyrle and mcdonagh,3 Reines4 and Bachrach,5 in England and on the Continent, and by myself 6 in this Country. It is probable, as Pinkus has suggested, that the disorder is not nearly so rare as the literature would indicate. Owing to the absence Of subjective symptoms, many cases are undoubt edly overlooked. Book Archives of Dermatology 1877 Vol 3

Download or read book Archives of Dermatology 1877 Vol 3 written by L. Duncan Bulkley and published by Forgotten Books. This book was released on 2017-10-21 with total page 426 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Archives of Dermatology, 1877, Vol. 3: A Quarterly Journal of Skin and Venereal Diseases A Special Journal, devoted to a branch of medicine which has been so much neglected as Dermatology by the profession at large, must create for itself a position, and command its own audience, which it must in a measure educate up to its standard; this of course refers only to the general practitioners, who have not devoted any Special thought or study to the branch. The aim of the archives OF dermatology has been to meet the wants Of the General Practitioner, and to serve as a means Of communication between the specialist, whose whole time and thought are devoted to Skin or Venereal Diseases, and those in gen eral practice, that the daily-gained experience Of the latter may reach the former. TO this end the Editor and staff have endeavored to include within its pages reference to everything which has been reported elsewhere in these departments during the year, in addi tion to the large amount of original matter which has filled more than one half of the Journal. Many Of the original articles have undoubtedly been very special in their character, and considerable of the matter digested from other journals has been purely scien tiho, but it must be borne in mind that it is impossible to render the entire subject of Dermatology clear and interesting to those unacquainted with more than its rudiments, and that the Archives is designed to serve as a compendium of knowledge in this branch for those engaged exclusively in it, as well as an assistant to the general practitioner in managing these diseases. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Archives of Dermatology This idea had some foundation at a time when the belief pre vailed that only narrow strictures should be subjected to internal division; but it has less weight at present when probably more strictures of moderate or large size are incised than narrow ones. Moreover it may well be doubted whether any one instrument can be adapted to all the varying ca'ses met with in practice, and there seems to be no reason why the surgeon should be limited to only one urethrotome any more than to one knife, in the performance of his operations. Book excerpt: Excerpt from Archives of Dermatology, Vol. 3: A Quarterly Journal of Skin and Venereal Diseases; July 1877 Through the kindness of Dr. Fox, who showed me several ex amples of the affection at his clinic in University College Hospital, and drew my attention to its characteristic diagnostic characters, I was acquainted with the disease whilst studying in London, and in this city I have seen a considerable number of mild cases of the affection. I have had also a most excellent example of the disease in a patient who has been for some time under my observation and care, and from whom the material was obtained which now enables me to discuss the disease and to decide as to its true nature.
