Book excerpt: With the prevailing violent conflict situation of our world, perpetuated sometimes even in the name of religion, humanity today faces extinction. To reverse this ugly trend, humanity has no choice than to build a society where every tribe and tongue can coexist in peace. This work analyzed the violent conflicts from anthropological, behavioral, politico-philosophical, and theological perspectives, and makes a demand on humanity to save herself through proper education and dialogue with all men and religions. Lotanna Olisaemeka is a researcher in Missiology affiliated with the Philosophisch-Theologische Hochschule, Vallendar, Germany.

Download or read book On Missionary Roads written by Jozef Tomko and published by Ignatius Press. This book was released on 2010-09-07 with total page 410 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From Botswana to Thailand, from Peru to Bosnia, the missionary work of the Catholic Church stretches from pole to pole, encompassing every part of the globe. Jozef Cardinal Tomko, the Prefect of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples from 1985 to 2001 under the late Pope John Paul II, shares his account of the many missionary journeys he made around the world. Often accompanying the Pope, Cardinal Tomko saw firsthand how the Church is dealing with the particular challenges of various cultures around the world. He gives witness to the flowering of faith as well as the hardships that many Catholics face in other countries. The encyclopedic knowledge of countries and peoples that the Cardinal possesses will enrich the reader's understanding of the world today, and show that the Roman Catholic Church is truly "one, holy, catholic, and apostolic." "Cardinal Tomko has given us a gift in this book that can help us appreciate the Church's response today to the mission given her by Christ two thousand years ago. He deserves our gratitude too for what he has done for the missionary well being of the Church over the years that he was Prefect of the Congregation for the Evangelization of Peoples. This book is an invitation to share in his generous missionary spirit and, like him, to do great things for the Lord." -Francis Cardinal George, OMI, Archbishop of Chicago Lavishly Illustrated with color photographs

Download or read book Muslim and Christian Women in Dialogue written by Kathleen McGarvey and published by Peter Lang. This book was released on 2009 with total page 460 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Observations about dialogue and about the theology of religions are common enough these days, but they are rarely grounded in the analysis of a particular reality and are therefore of little help to practitioners. This book, on the other hand, gives an exhaustive documentation of the background and the actual situation of Muslim-Christian relations in Northern Nigeria before proceeding to proposals for understanding the contribution of women's discourse in the development of dialogue and to a feminist theology of religions. Drawing from her empirical findings in Northern Nigeria as well as some feminist insights, the author suggests an approach to other religions, grounded in people's lived experience and a shared commitment to justice, peace and transformed human relations. Recognizing the limitations of some pluralist theories, she suggests a feminist-ethical approach to religious pluralism. The practicality and feasibility of such an approach are shown as she elaborates on its possible application in the concrete context of Northern Nigeria.

Download or read book Christian Muslim Dialogue in Northern Nigeria written by Thaddeus Byimui Umaru and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2013-08-14 with total page 333 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Religion as a powerful impulse in human existence plays a paradoxical role in society as it both contributes significantly in shaping the spiritual, socio-political and economic lives of millions of people and also acts as a source of conflict. The sad experience of interreligious conflict in Northern Nigeria challenges the claim of Islam and Christianity to be religions of peace. However, understood as closely intertwined with culture and custom of a people, religion can be central in the establishment of peace and conflict resolution in and between communities. This text using the model of dialogue (Nostra Aetate) explores and presents the socio-political and theological resources available in Northern Nigeria (the locality) for a consistent peace building process.
Download or read book Blacks Greatest Homeland written by Jubil Aka and published by iUniverse. This book was released on 2006-06 with total page 531 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the last six years, Nigeria has broken the grip of dictatorship, poverty, and corruption to emerge as one of Africa's most peaceful nations. A role model for other developing countries, Nigeria now enjoys its position as a peace and power broker, defying the odds of its past. Home to the world's greatest concentration of black people and led by President Olusegun Obasanjo, Nigeria now enjoys economic prosperity and the fruits of democracy. But these successes were fraught with challenges. The denigration and stereotyping of black people created a constant barrier to change, one that was not easily overcome. Dr. Jubril Olabode Aka delivers a compelling portrayal of Nigeria, focusing on the country's emerging force for tolerance and hope. Aka discusses such topics as peaceful conflict resolution, Nigeria's foreign policy, the government's success in eliminating fraud and corruption, and the need to eradicate discrimination. Blacks Greatest Homeland examines Nigeria's history, leadership, and future, offering an honest and positive look at the sweeping changes Nigeria has made in the last decade.

Download or read book Tales of Agonies written by Emmanuel Abur and published by Austin Macauley Publishers. This book was released on 2023-11-10 with total page 157 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Given the current Nigerian security quicksand, characterized by a plethora of human brutality seen in only very few countries of the world, the book offers coping resources primarily to Christians, who seem to be the most vulnerable group. Of course, these could be of help to non-Christians as well. This intervention has become necessary as people live in constant anxiety, fear, and apprehension and are, in fact, distressed. Consequently, human life is unprotected, miserable, and strained. The social, economic, and political life of the country is off-kilter. Only multiple intensive surgical interventions, such as those offered in the book, can save the day. Thus, a synergy of psychological and spiritual resources and techniques is considered robust enough for this purpose. In this way, they are conducive to effective coping and full functioning, not only in hostile environments.
Download or read book The Crisis of Belonging and Ethnographies of Peacebuilding in Kaduna State Nigeria written by Benjamin Maiangwa and published by Rowman & Littlefield. This book was released on 2021-01-14 with total page 181 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book explores the contested notions of territory and belonging in Nigeria, most especially among the Fulani and other ethnic groups in Kaduna. The book argues that these controversies center around Indigenous, nomadic, and autochthonous claims of belonging. The author identifies these differing notions of belonging as a major condition of violent conflicts in Kaduna and across various postcolonial societies. The author’s analysis demonstrates how dynamic ideological impetuses for these conflicts underscore broader issues of citizenship rights, nationhood, and local peacebuilding in Nigeria.

The Berlin Wall and the Iron Curtain are falling. Crises arise within and outside the family. Adam Thelen is the third son of the family patriarch, and he is a priest. He has a forbidden love affair and also responds to the evil acts of a fellow priest. Adam is shocked at his own actions. Is he any less malign then his family’s adversaries? Adam’s daughter Caitlin, called ‘special’ by the Pope, confronts great evil. This saga of a family with strong ties to global financial and religious institutions will continue with volume 3— Epiphany: Satan Ascendant.
