(PHRI) conducted an archaeological inventory survey (100% surface survey and limited subsurface testing) of the c. 24 ac Kapalaoa project site, situated in the Land of Puuanahulu, North Kona District, Island of Hawaii (TMK:3-7-1-03:4,5,6,11). Survey field work was conducted April 28-May 8,1989. Approximately 226 man-hours of labor were expended on the survey field work. The basic objective of the survey was to provide information pertinent to and sufficient for the preparation of various permit applications to be made to appropriate state and county regulatory offices" -- Page ii.

The basic objective of the survey was to provide information appropriate to and sufficient for the preparation of a state land use boundary amendment petition to be submitted to the Hawaii State Land Use Commisssion. Thirty-four newly identified sites were recorded during the survey. Futher data collection is recommended for 10 of the sites.

Rosendahl, Ph.D., Inc, (PHRI) conducted an archaeological inventory survey of a portion of the proposed Palani Road improvements project area, situated in the land of Keahuolu, North Kona District, Island of Hawaii. The basic objective of the survey was to provide information appropriate to and sufficient for preparation of an environmental assessment (EA), as well as additional regulatory permit applications which may be required during the course of implementing the road improvement project. The survey field work was conducted April 23-26, 1990. During the survey, 32 sites containing 44 components account for up to 30 of the 44 features identified; the remaining 14 components include a single special-purpose cave (14218 cache), 13 features believed to represent temporary habitation, including one small cave, five bedrock outcrops which appear to have been modified for habitation use, and seven surface features (four C-shapes and three irregular- and U-shaped enclosures)"-- Page ii.

(PHRI) recently conducted an archaeological inventory survey of approximately 100-acre Queen Liliuokalani Trust KIS expansion site, Keahuolu, North Kona, Island of Hawaii (TMK:3-7-4-08:Por.2). The overall objective of the survey, conducted in conjunction with a final subdivision approval for the first increment of an expansion of the Kona industrial subdivision, was to provide information sufficient to satisfy the historic preservation regulatory review requirements of the Hawaii County Planning Department (HCPD) and the Department of Land and Natural Resources - State Historic Preservation Division (DLNR-SHPD). During the field work 18 sites with 38 component features were identified. The features consisted of modified outcrops, pahoehoe excavations, filled depressions, alignments, mounds, terraces, walls, hearth, walled overhangs, an enclosure, a kerbstone trail, a modified depression, a cairn, a cave shelter and a burial cave. Based on current findings 16 of the 18 identified sites were assessed as significant solely for information content" -- Summary.
