Book Arc Spaces and Additive Invariants in Real Algebraic and Analytic Geometry

Download or read book Arc Spaces and Additive Invariants in Real Algebraic and Analytic Geometry written by Michel Coste and published by . This book was released on 2007 with total page 164 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this volume the authors present some new trends in real algebraic geometry based on the study of arc spaces and additive invariants of real algebraic sets. Generally, real algebraic geometry uses methods of its own that usually differ sharply from the more widely known methods of complex algebraic geometry. This feature is particularly apparent when studying the basic topological and geometric properties of real algebraic sets; the rich algebraic structures are usually hidden and cannot be recovered from the topology. The use of arc spaces and additive invariants partially obviates this disadvantage. Moreover, these methods are often parallel to the basic approaches of complex algebraic geometry. The authors' presentation contains the construction of local topological invariants of real algebraic sets by means of algebraically constructible functions. This technique is extended to the wider family of arc-symmetric semialgebraic sets. Moreover, the latter family defines a natural topology that fills a gap between the Zariski topology and the euclidean topology. In real equisingularity theory, Kuo's blow-analytic equivalence of real analytic function germs provides an equivalence relation that corresponds to topological equivalence in the complex analytic set-up. Among other applications, arc-symmetric geometry, via the motivic integration approach, gives new invariants of this equivalence, allowing some initial classification results. The volume contains two courses and two survey articles that are designed for a wide audience, in particular students and young researchers.

Book Topics in Global Real Analytic Geometry

Download or read book Topics in Global Real Analytic Geometry written by Francesca Acquistapace and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-06-07 with total page 285 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the first two chapters we review the theory developped by Cartan, Whitney and Tognoli. Then Nullstellensatz is proved both for Stein algebras and for the algebra of real analytic functions on a C-analytic space. Here we find a relation between real Nullstellensatz and seventeenth Hilbert’s problem for positive semidefinite analytic functions. Namely, a positive answer to Hilbert’s problem implies a solution for the real Nullstellensatz more similar to the one for real polinomials. A chapter is devoted to the state of the art on this problem that is far from a complete answer. In the last chapter we deal with inequalities. We describe a class of semianalytic sets defined by countably many global real analytic functions that is stable under topological properties and under proper holomorphic maps between Stein spaces, that is, verifies a direct image theorem. A smaller class admits also a decomposition into irreducible components as it happens for semialgebraic sets. During the redaction some proofs have been simplified with respect to the original ones.

Book Topics On Real And Complex Singularities

Download or read book Topics On Real And Complex Singularities written by Satoshi Koike and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2014-04-02 with total page 212 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A phenomenon which appears in nature, or human behavior, can sometimes be explained by saying that a certain potential function is maximized, or minimized. For example, the Hamiltonian mechanics, soapy films, size of an atom, business management, etc. In mathematics, a point where a given function attains an extreme value is called a critical point, or a singular point. The purpose of singularity theory is to explore the properties of singular points of functions and mappings. This is a volume on the proceedings of the fourth Japanese-Australian Workshop on Real and Complex Singularities held in Kobe, Japan. It consists of 11 original articles on singularities. Readers will be introduced to some important new notions for characterizations of singularities and several interesting results are delivered. In addition, current approaches to classical topics and state-of-the-art effective computational methods of invariants of singularities are also presented. This volume will be useful not only to the singularity theory specialists but also to general mathematicians.

Book Arc Schemes And Singularities

Download or read book Arc Schemes And Singularities written by David Bourqui and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2020-03-05 with total page 312 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This title introduces the theory of arc schemes in algebraic geometry and singularity theory, with special emphasis on recent developments around the Nash problem for surfaces. The main challenges are to understand the global and local structure of arc schemes, and how they relate to the nature of the singularities on the variety. Since the arc scheme is an infinite dimensional object, new tools need to be developed to give a precise meaning to the notion of a singular point of the arc scheme.Other related topics are also explored, including motivic integration and dual intersection complexes of resolutions of singularities. Written by leading international experts, it offers a broad overview of different applications of arc schemes in algebraic geometry, singularity theory and representation theory.

Book Geometry of Group Representations

Download or read book Geometry of Group Representations written by William Mark Goldman and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 1988-12-31 with total page 332 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The representations of a finitely generated group in a topological group $G$ form a topological space which is an analytic variety if $G$ is a Lie group, or an algebraic variety if $G$ is an algebraic group. The study of this area draws from and contributes to a wide range of mathematical subjects: algebra, analysis, topology, differential geometry, representation theory, and even mathematical physics. In some cases, the space of representations is the object of the study, in others it is a tool in a program of investigation, and, in many cases, it is both. Most of the papers in this volume are based on talks delivered at the AMS-IMS-SIAM Summer Research Conference on the Geometry of Group Representations, held at the University of Colorado in Boulder in July 1987. The conference was designed to bring together researchers from the diverse areas of mathematics involving spaces of group representations. In keeping with the spirit of the conference, the papers are directed at nonspecialists, but contain technical developments to bring the subject to the current research frontier. Some of the papers include entirely new results. Readers will gain an understanding of the present state of research in the geometry of group representations and their applications.

Book Algebraic Homogeneous Spaces and Invariant Theory

Download or read book Algebraic Homogeneous Spaces and Invariant Theory written by Frank D. Grosshans and published by Lecture Notes in Mathematics. This book was released on 1997-11-18 with total page 164 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The invariant theory of non-reductive groups has its roots in the 19th century but has seen some very interesting developments in the past twenty years. This book is an exposition of several related topics including observable subgroups, induced modules, maximal unipotent subgroups of reductive groups and the method of U-invariants, and the complexity of an action. Much of this material has not appeared previously in book form. The exposition assumes a basic knowledge of algebraic groups and then develops each topic systematically with applications to invariant theory. Exercises are included as well as many examples, some of which are related to geometry and physics.

Book Groups and Geometric Analysis

Download or read book Groups and Geometric Analysis written by Sigurdur Helgason and published by American Mathematical Society. This book was released on 2022-03-17 with total page 667 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Group-theoretic methods have taken an increasingly prominent role in analysis. Some of this change has been due to the writings of Sigurdur Helgason. This book is an introduction to such methods on spaces with symmetry given by the action of a Lie group. The introductory chapter is a self-contained account of the analysis on surfaces of constant curvature. Later chapters cover general cases of the Radon transform, spherical functions, invariant operators, compact symmetric spaces and other topics. This book, together with its companion volume, Geometric Analysis on Symmetric Spaces (AMS Mathematical Surveys and Monographs series, vol. 39, 1994), has become the standard text for this approach to geometric analysis. Sigurdur Helgason was awarded the Steele Prize for outstanding mathematical exposition for Groups and Geometric Analysis and Differential Geometry, Lie Groups and Symmetric Spaces.
