Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Sustainable Development Report 2020 features the SDG Index and Dashboards, the first and widely used tool to assess country performance on the UN Agenda 2030 and the Sustainable Development Goals. The report shows that all countries need to strengthen the resilience of their health systems and prevention programs. Some countries have outperformed others in containing the Covid-19 pandemic, yet all remain at serious risk. The report frames the implementation of the SDGs in terms of six broad transformations. The authors examine country performance on the SDGs for 193 countries using a wide array of indicators, and calculate future trajectories, presenting a number of best practices to achieve the historic Agenda 2030. The views expressed in this report do not reflect the views of any organizations, agency or programme of the United Nations. This title is available as Open Access on Cambridge Core.

Book Arab Sustainable Development Report 2015

Download or read book Arab Sustainable Development Report 2015 written by Economic and Social Commission for Weste and published by UN. This book was released on 2016-10-28 with total page 210 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In September 2015, Governments worldwide adopted the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, including 17 wide-ranging Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Using the SDGs as a thematic reference, the report examines progress on securing human dignity and well-being in the Arab countries and what is needed to achieve sustainable development in this region in turmoil. It also looks at the complex factors shaping the region: the occupation of Palestinian and other Arab lands; ongoing conflicts; governance, human rights and institutional deficits; and shortcomings in terms of financing, science and technology, trade and statistical capacity. The report stresses that urgent action is needed at the national and regional levels, and that integrated, long-term and evidence-based planning and investments that address the root causes of instability in the region are indispensable for achieving the SDGs.

Book Gender Equality and the Sustainable Development Goals

Download or read book Gender Equality and the Sustainable Development Goals written by Vereinte Nationen Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia and published by . This book was released on 2019 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Arab Gender Gap Report 2020, first edition, provides the latest statistics and analysis on the status of women and men, girls and boys at the country and regional levels. The statistics and analysis of over 200 regional priority gender-equality indicators help fast track progress and explores the state of gender equality across 22 Arab countries. The Arab Gender Gap Report comes at a critical moment as discussion on achieving sustainable development for all in the region is intensifying, propelled by the need for more inclusive societies to transform the world. The report provides the Arab world insight to create a more gender-equitable culture and identifies challenges and impediments our societies face. The analysis in The Arab Gender Gap Report 2020 reveals that critical gender gaps persist in many of the main areas despite the many gains achieved by the countries over the years. The report shows that although many countries have achieved important milestones towards gender equality in education, health and access to basic services, the “last mile” remains to be covered before girls and women enjoy full equality and the realization of their rights. The analysis also reveals a gap in the production of many gender-related indicators that comes not only from household-based data, but also from administrative records. There is an urgent need to strengthen the alliance between national statistical offices and the ministries that produce statistical data to ensure the production of quality of gender statistics and quality of gender policies.

Download or read book The United Nations World Water Development Report 2020 written by UNESCO and published by . This book was released on 2020-03-27 with total page 234 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The 2020 edition of the WWDR, titled Water and Climate Change illustrates the critical linkages between water and climate change in the context of the broader sustainable development agenda. Supported by examples from across the world, it describes both the challenges and opportunities created by climate change, and provides potential responses – in terms of adaptation, mitigation and improved resilience – that can be undertaken by enhancing water resources management, attenuating water-related risks, and improving access to water supply and sanitation services for all in a sustainable manner. It addresses the interrelations between water, people, environment and economics in a changing climate, demonstrating how climate change can be a positive catalyst for improved water management, governance and financing to achieve a sustainable and prosperous world for all. The report provides a fact-based, water-focused contribution to the knowledge base on climate change. It is complementary to existing scientific assessments and designed to support international political frameworks, with the goals of helping the water community tackle the challenges of climate change, and informing the climate change community about the opportunities that improved water management offers in terms of adaptation and mitigation.

Book excerpt: The emergence and diffusion of advanced digital production (ADP) technologies clustered around the fourth industrial revolution (4IR) is radically altering the nature of manufacturing production, increasingly blurring the boundaries between physical and digital production systems. The significant requirements of ADP technologies are opening questions on whether industrialization is still a feasible or even a desirable strategy to achieve economic development. This publication contributes to this debate by presenting fresh analytical and empirical evidence on the future of industrialization in the context of a technological paradigm shift. According to the report, it is by engaging with industrialization that countries can build and strengthen the skills and capabilities needed to compete and succeed within the new technological paradigm.
