Book Arab Monetary Integration

Download or read book Arab Monetary Integration written by Khair El-Din Haseeb and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2014-10-30 with total page 478 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Pre-eminent among the requisites for economic integration is monetary integration. It is the premise of the chapters in this book that if the Arab world is to achieve a closer degree of cooperation in economic and political spheres, the issue of monetary integration must be given much more attention. To this end the contributors to this book, who include well-known academics and economic experts from the Arab countries, Europe, the USA and Latin America, have looked at the experience of other areas of the world which have introduced monetary unity. They consider the experiences of Western Europe, Latin America and Western Africa, evaluating them with the objective of focusing on the various major issues which have to be coped with when planning for closer monetary cooperation. While the analysis concerning the scope for future Arab monetary integration revealed varying positions as to the factors which should be stressed and the pre-requisites which should be fulfilled, there emerged general agreement on certain major issues including the following: at the present time the Arab countries should strive to achieve partial rather than full monetary integration and to create the requisite conditions for such a move; economic and monetary integration should be viewed as mutually reinforcing rather than as successive processes; and the political will to achieve integration is a major pre-requisite for any move in that direction. First published in 1981.

Book excerpt: A Brookings Institution Press and the Egyptian Center for Economic Studies (ECES) publication Improving the economic performance of Arab countries is now more critical than ever. The region faces high population growth rates, rising unemployment, and modest economic growth coupled with increasingly intense competition from emerging markets in eastern Europe, Latin America, and Asia. Meeting these challenges requires finding ways to overcome political obstacles that impede socially beneficial economic reforms. Despite fifty years of repeated attempts at Arab economic integration, the results in terms of intraregional trade and investment flows have been very modest. This book explains why and discusses possible ways forward. The authors draw especially on the success of the European Union to assess the scope of Arab economic integration as an instrument for narrowing the persistent gap between the region¡¯s economic potential and its performance.

This book was released on 2010-01 with total page 208 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Over the last century the world economy has encountered deep and rapid changes. Over the years these changes have internationally regionally and locally been transforming our global economic and social systems. These changes are in political and economic spheres. Since the last few years of the previous century a new phenomenon in international economic relations has been on the rise which aims to increase free international trade and eliminate trade barriers and restrictions between countries. In addition, joint efforts are afoot to increase the economic cooperation among nations in all possible ways. Towards this end, since World War II several international organizations have been established, such as the International Monetary Fund, Arab Monetary Fund, Arab League and the Arab Organization of Investment Guarantee. These organizations are involved, directly or indirectly, to promote and grow international trade by a gradual decrease of trade barriers. They have achieved significant improvements in the field of international trade, investment and economic growth.

Download or read book Stock Markets of the Arab World written by A. S. Abdul Hadi and published by Taylor & Francis. This book was released on 2023-05-31 with total page 177 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: First published in 1988, Stock Markets of the Arab World provides a sound description and analysis of the stock market situation in Arab countries and an evaluation of previous attempts at the integration of capital markets. Foreign interest in the oil producing Arab countries has grown due to the accumulation of international reserves. Oil producers are looking for an alternative to their near-term investments in United States Securities through a diversification of their economies. This book argues that these countries could profitably invest these reserves through an integration of their securities markets. It also says that prospects of increased linkages among Arab domestic markets do exist. This is an interesting read for scholars and researchers of Middle East studies, Arab economy and economics in general.
