Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In recent years, the technology of cryogenic comminution has been widely applied in the field of chemical engineering, food making, medicine production, and particularly in recycling of waste materials. Because of the increasing pollution of waste tires and the shortage of raw rubber resource, the recycling process for waste rubber products has become important and commercially viable. This technology has shown a great number of advantages such as causing no environmental pollution, requiring low energy consumption and producing high quality products. Hence, the normal crusher which was used to reclaim materials, such as waste tires, nylon, plastic and many polymer materials at atmospheric 12 temperature is being replaced by a cryogenic crusher. • In the cryogenic crusher, the property of the milled material is usually very sensitive to temperature change. When a crusher is in operation, it will generate a great deal of heat that causes the material temperature increased. Once the temperature increases over the vitrification temperature, the material property will change and lose the brittle behavior causing the energy consumption to rise sharply. Consequently, the comminution process cannot be continued. Therefore, it is believed that the cryogenic crusher is the most critical component in the cryogenic comminution system. The research on the temperature increase and energy consumption in the cryogenic crusher is not only to reduce the energy consumption of the crasher, but also to reduce the energy consumption of the cryogenic system.

This book was released on 2023-11-13 with total page 23 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Cryogenic atom probe tomography (cryo-APT) is a new microstructure characterization technique with the potential to address challenges across various research fields. In this review, we provide an overview of the development of cryo-APT and the associated instrumentation that transforms conventional APT into cryo-APT. We start by introducing the APT principle and the instrumentation involved in the cryo-APT workflow, emphasizing the key techniques that enable cryo-APT specimen preparation. Furthermore, we shed light on the research made possible by cryo-APT, presenting several recent outcomes to demonstrate its capabilities effectively. Finally, we discuss the limitations of cryo-APT and summarize the potential research areas that can further benefit from this cutting-edge microstructural characterization technique.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Oregon Convention Center, Portland, Oregon, was the venue for the 1997 Cryogenic Engineering Conference. The meeting was held jointly with the International Cryogenic Materials Conference. John Barclay, of the University of Victoria, and David Smathers, of Cabot Performance Materials, were conference chairmen. Portland is the home of Northwest Natural Gas, a pioneer in the use of liquid natural gas, and Portland State University, where cryogenic research has long been conducted. The program consisted of 350 CEC papers, considerable more than CEC-95. This was the largest number of papers ever submitted to the CEC. Of these, 263 papers are published here, in Volume 43 of Advances in Cryogenic Engineering. Once again the volume is published in two books. CEC PAPER REVIEW PROCESS Since 1954 Advances in Cryogenic Engineering has been the archival publication of papers presented at the biennial CEC!ICMC conferences. The publication includes invited, unsolicited, and government sponsored research papers in the research areas of cryogenic engineering and applications. All of the papers published must (1) be presented at the conference, (2) pass the peer review process, and (3) report previously unpublished theoretical studies, reviews, or advances in cryogenic engineering.

Book excerpt: The book consists of a series of edited chapters, each written by an expert in the field and focusing on a particular characterization technique as applied to glass. The book covers a variety of techniques ranging from the very common (like Raman and FTIR) to the most recent (and less well known) ones, like SEM for structural analysis and photoelastic measurements. The level of the chapters make it suitable for researchers and for graduate students about to start their research work. It will also: discuss the technique itself, background, nuances when it comes to looking at glassy materials, interpretation of results, case studies, and recent and near-future innovations Fill a widening gap in modern techniques for glass characterization Provide much needed updates on the multiple essential characterization techniques
Download or read book Microscopy and Microanalysis for Lithium Ion Batteries written by Cai Shen and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2023-05-26 with total page 479 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The past three decades have witnessed the great success of lithium-ion batteries, especially in the areas of 3C products, electrical vehicles, and smart grid applications. However, further optimization of the energy/power density, coulombic efficiency, cycle life, charge speed, and environmental adaptability are still needed. To address these issues, a thorough understanding of the reaction inside a battery or dynamic evolution of each component is required. Microscopy and Microanalysis for Lithium-Ion Batteries discusses advanced analytical techniques that offer the capability of resolving the structure and chemistry at an atomic resolution to further drive lithium-ion battery research and development. Provides comprehensive techniques that probe the fundamentals of Li-ion batteries Covers the basic principles of the techniques involved as well as its application in battery research Describes details of experimental setups and procedure for successful experiments This reference is aimed at researchers, engineers, and scientists studying lithium-ion batteries including chemical, materials, and electrical engineers, as well as chemists and physicists.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The third annual International Industrialization Symposium on the SuperCollider, IISSC-held March 13-15, 1991, in Atlanta, Ga.-was an enormous success. The number of attendees, exhibitors, and representatives from foreign countries surpassed the totals of previous years. There were 740 attendees, representing more than 2 dozen universities and colleges, 32 states, 9 national labs, 6 research centers, several government entities at the local, state, and federal level, 182 businesses & industry and 14 countries. More than 100 exhibits, sponsored by 85 organizations, added to the excitement. "Getting Down to Business" was the theme of this year's Symposium. The fact that the Superconducting SuperCollider (SSC) is indeed underway was the message delivered by the Symposium's keynote speaker, Dr. Roy Schwitters, and expanded upon by the opening plenary speakers. The project is moving from the planning stage to actual construction, to development and procurement of equipment, and to resolution of the technical issues involved in advancing the state-of-the-art in areas such as theory, controls, systems, metallurgy, quality control, management, cryogenics, power systems, detectors, interagency cooperation and funding. Plenary speakers included: Paul Gilbert, Chairman of Parsons Brinckerhoff Quade & Douglas, Inc.
