Book A Comparison of Approximate String Matching Algorithms

Download or read book A Comparison of Approximate String Matching Algorithms written by Petteri Jokinen and published by . This book was released on 1991 with total page 22 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Abstract: "Experimental comparison of the running time of approximate string matching algorithms for the k differences problem is presented. Given a pattern string, a text string and an integer k, the task is to find all approximate occurrences of the pattern in the text with at most k differences (insertions, deletions, changes). Besides a new algorithm based on suffix automata, we consider six other algorithms based on different approaches including dynamic programming, Boyer-Moore string matching and the distribution of characters. It turns out that none of the algorithms is the best for all values of the problem parameters, and the speed differences between the methods can be large."

Book Combinatorial Pattern Matching

Download or read book Combinatorial Pattern Matching written by Alberto Apostolico and published by Lecture Notes in Computer Science. This book was released on 1993-05-18 with total page 284 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The papers contained in this volume were presented at the Fourth Annual Symposium on Combinatorial Pattern Matching, held in Padova, Italy, in June 1993. Combinatorial pattern matching addresses issues of searching and matching of strings and more complicated patterns such as trees, regular expressions, extended expressions, etc. The goal is to derive nontrivial combinatorial properties for such structures and then to exploit these properties in order to achieve superior performance for the corresponding computational problems. In recent years, a steady flow of high-quality scientific studies of this subject has changed a sparse set of isolated results into a full-fledged area of algorithmics. The area is expected to grow even further due to the increasing demand for speedand efficiency that comes especially from molecular biology and the Genome project, but also from other diverse areas such as information retrieval, pattern recognition, compilers, data compression, and program analysis.

Book String Searching Algorithms

Download or read book String Searching Algorithms written by Graham A Stephen and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1994-10-17 with total page 257 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: String searching is a subject of both theoretical and practical interest in computer science. This book presents a bibliographic overview of the field and an anthology of detailed descriptions of the principal algorithms available. The aim is twofold: on the one hand, to provide an easy-to-read comparison of the available techniques in each area, and on the other, to furnish the reader with a reference to in-depth descriptions of the major algorithms. Topics covered include methods for finding exact and approximate string matches, calculating ‘edit’ distances between strings, finding common sequences and finding the longest repetitions within strings. For clarity, all the algorithms are presented in a uniform format and notation.

Book String Processing and Information Retrieval

Download or read book String Processing and Information Retrieval written by Alberto H.F. Laender and published by Springer. This book was released on 2003-08-02 with total page 351 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume of the Lecture Notes in Computer Science series provides a c- prehensive, state-of-the-art survey of recent advances in string processing and information retrieval. It includes invited and research papers presented at the 9th International Symposium on String Processing and Information Retrieval, SPIRE2002, held in Lisbon, Portugal. SPIREhas its origins in the South Am- ican Workshop on String Processing which was ?rst held in Belo Horizonte, Brazil, in 1993. Starting in 1998, the focus of the workshop was broadened to include the area of information retrieval due to its increasing relevance and its inter-relationship with the area of string processing. The call for papers for SPIRE2002 resulted in the submission of 54 papers from researchers around the world. Of these, 19 were selected for inclusion in the program (an acceptance rate of 35%). In addition, the Program Committee decided to accept six other papers, considered as describing interesting ongoing research, in the form of short papers. The authors of these 25 papers came from 18 di?erent countries (Argentina, Australia, Brazil, Canada, Czech Republic, Chile, Colombia, Finland, France, Germany, Japan, Italy, Mexico, Saudi Arabia, Switzerland, Spain, United Kingdom, and USA).
