Book Inference for Diffusion Processes

Download or read book Inference for Diffusion Processes written by Christiane Fuchs and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-01-18 with total page 439 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Diffusion processes are a promising instrument for realistically modelling the time-continuous evolution of phenomena not only in the natural sciences but also in finance and economics. Their mathematical theory, however, is challenging, and hence diffusion modelling is often carried out incorrectly, and the according statistical inference is considered almost exclusively by theoreticians. This book explains both topics in an illustrative way which also addresses practitioners. It provides a complete overview of the current state of research and presents important, novel insights. The theory is demonstrated using real data applications.

Book Parameter Estimation in Stochastic Volatility Models

Download or read book Parameter Estimation in Stochastic Volatility Models written by Jaya P. N. Bishwal and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2022-08-06 with total page 634 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book develops alternative methods to estimate the unknown parameters in stochastic volatility models, offering a new approach to test model accuracy. While there is ample research to document stochastic differential equation models driven by Brownian motion based on discrete observations of the underlying diffusion process, these traditional methods often fail to estimate the unknown parameters in the unobserved volatility processes. This text studies the second order rate of weak convergence to normality to obtain refined inference results like confidence interval, as well as nontraditional continuous time stochastic volatility models driven by fractional Levy processes. By incorporating jumps and long memory into the volatility process, these new methods will help better predict option pricing and stock market crash risk. Some simulation algorithms for numerical experiments are provided.

Book Numerical Solution of Stochastic Differential Equations with Jumps in Finance

Download or read book Numerical Solution of Stochastic Differential Equations with Jumps in Finance written by Eckhard Platen and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2010-07-23 with total page 868 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In financial and actuarial modeling and other areas of application, stochastic differential equations with jumps have been employed to describe the dynamics of various state variables. The numerical solution of such equations is more complex than that of those only driven by Wiener processes, described in Kloeden & Platen: Numerical Solution of Stochastic Differential Equations (1992). The present monograph builds on the above-mentioned work and provides an introduction to stochastic differential equations with jumps, in both theory and application, emphasizing the numerical methods needed to solve such equations. It presents many new results on higher-order methods for scenario and Monte Carlo simulation, including implicit, predictor corrector, extrapolation, Markov chain and variance reduction methods, stressing the importance of their numerical stability. Furthermore, it includes chapters on exact simulation, estimation and filtering. Besides serving as a basic text on quantitative methods, it offers ready access to a large number of potential research problems in an area that is widely applicable and rapidly expanding. Finance is chosen as the area of application because much of the recent research on stochastic numerical methods has been driven by challenges in quantitative finance. Moreover, the volume introduces readers to the modern benchmark approach that provides a general framework for modeling in finance and insurance beyond the standard risk-neutral approach. It requires undergraduate background in mathematical or quantitative methods, is accessible to a broad readership, including those who are only seeking numerical recipes, and includes exercises that help the reader develop a deeper understanding of the underlying mathematics.

Book Advances in Differential and Difference Equations with Applications 2020

Download or read book Advances in Differential and Difference Equations with Applications 2020 written by Dumitru Baleanu and published by MDPI. This book was released on 2021-01-20 with total page 348 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: It is very well known that differential equations are related with the rise of physical science in the last several decades and they are used successfully for models of real-world problems in a variety of fields from several disciplines. Additionally, difference equations represent the discrete analogues of differential equations. These types of equations started to be used intensively during the last several years for their multiple applications, particularly in complex chaotic behavior. A certain class of differential and related difference equations is represented by their respective fractional forms, which have been utilized to better describe non-local phenomena appearing in all branches of science and engineering. The purpose of this book is to present some common results given by mathematicians together with physicists, engineers, as well as other scientists, for whom differential and difference equations are valuable research tools. The reported results can be used by researchers and academics working in both pure and applied differential equations.

Book Statistical Inference in Financial and Insurance Mathematics with R

Download or read book Statistical Inference in Financial and Insurance Mathematics with R written by Alexandre Brouste and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2017-11-22 with total page 204 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Finance and insurance companies are facing a wide range of parametric statistical problems. Statistical experiments generated by a sample of independent and identically distributed random variables are frequent and well understood, especially those consisting of probability measures of an exponential type. However, the aforementioned applications also offer non-classical experiments implying observation samples of independent but not identically distributed random variables or even dependent random variables. Three examples of such experiments are treated in this book. First, the Generalized Linear Models are studied. They extend the standard regression model to non-Gaussian distributions. Statistical experiments with Markov chains are considered next. Finally, various statistical experiments generated by fractional Gaussian noise are also described. In this book, asymptotic properties of several sequences of estimators are detailed. The notion of asymptotical efficiency is discussed for the different statistical experiments considered in order to give the proper sense of estimation risk. Eighty examples and computations with R software are given throughout the text. - Examines a range of statistical inference methods in the context of finance and insurance applications - Presents the LAN (local asymptotic normality) property of likelihoods - Combines the proofs of LAN property for different statistical experiments that appears in financial and insurance mathematics - Provides the proper description of such statistical experiments and invites readers to seek optimal estimators (performed in R) for such statistical experiments
