Cet ouvrage bénéficie des travaux effectués par le groupe de travail Intégration & Complexité de l’association CESAMES, en relation avec la chaire X-ParisTech, ce qui a permis de valider le modèle avec les industriels participants. Il présente en détail le modèle COCOMO et dresse les grandes lignes de la méthode de comptage par points de fonctions. Une étude de cas basée sur les systèmes C4ISTAR illustre l’utilisation de ces méthodes dans un contexte de systèmes réels de grande complexité.

Book excerpt: L'approche systémique et communicationnelle des organisations consiste à expliciter et à analyser sous forme d'un modèle relationnel les principaux systèmes de communications rituels centrés sur les problèmes clés d'une organisation. Comme la lecture politique ou sociologique des organisations, elle propose aux chercheurs des concepts spécifiques, une méthodologie propre et une quasi-théorie qui se situe au même niveau que la théorie de la lutte pour le pouvoir de la sociologie des organisations. En effet, sur ce dernier point, on peut considérer que les concepts de " système relationnel ", de " valeur émergente du système ", de " négociation impossible sur des problèmes clés ", " d'imbrication des jeux dans des métasystèmes réglés par des métajeux ", fournissent une vision théorique de l'organisation du même degré de généralité que les concepts de " zones d'incertitude ", de " maîtrise de ces zones ", de " ressources " des acteurs et de " lutte pour le pouvoir " de la sociologie des organisations. En fait, l'approche systémique et communicationnelle généralise aux organisations l'approche interactionniste et systémique de l'école de Palo Alto. Elle permet aussi d'intégrer l'étude des jeux de l'analyse transactionnelle dans une modélisation systémique plus vaste. Elle permet également de revisiter les concepts de " style de management " pour proposer des " jeux managériaux typiques ". Elle renouvelle les études sur la manipulation, les contraintes et la liberté, le changement et la sécurité, la valeur professionnelle et la reconnaissance identitaire ainsi que les études sur le pouvoir dans les organisations. L'approche systémique et communicationnelle des organisations ouvre donc de nouvelles pistes de recherche en communication organisationnelle.

L'expression « Approches systémiques » veut faire passer le message de la variété des points de vue sur les organisations de l'association de diverses logiques d'analyse, de l'importance attachée à la dynamique des processus de fonctionnement, d'évolution et d'apprentissage, etc. L'auteur montre, notamment en présentant le modèle de l'organisation multi-contrôlée, que de nombreuses entreprises et administrations souffrent d'un déficit global de complexité qui explique bien des dysfonctions, la complexité étant comprise comme la richesse des informations et des interconnexions, la variété des états et des évolutions possibles (toutes choses bien différentes de la complication). Dans l'intérêt des hommes et des entreprises, il faut complexifier les organisations et répartir la maîtrise de la complexité à tous les niveaux, ce qui frayera la voie vers l'entreprise à complexité humaine. Les quatre chapitres de l'ouvrage traitent ces thèmes en se référant, chacun, à un concept-clé : information, stratégie, structure, apprentissage. Dans le premier, l'auteur étudie la dialectique information-informatique et propose une nouvelle approche des systèmes d'information. Le second chapitre présente une méthode d'analyse du système organisation-, qui met en lumière les rapports entre le projet et la stratégie d'une organisation, d'une part, les projets et les stratégies des acteurs externes et internes, d'autre part. Le chapitre sur la structure est centré sur la reconnaissance de l'individualité et la dialectique individuel-collectif au sein des organisations, toutes choses qui conduisent au questionnement sur l'autonomie. Enfin, dans le dernier chapitre, l'auteur traite de la nature et des niveaux d'analyse et de représentation des organisations : posant la question « l'analyse pour qui et par qui ? », il cherche dans quelles conditions l'analyse peut devenir un facteur d'apprentissage collectif.

Another purpose of the meeting was to bring researchers together from different parts of the world, reflecting their different approaches to the scientific study of mind, brain, and behavior. Consequently, the eminent researchers who have written the twenty-six chapters included in the present volume were drawn from universities and research institutes in North America, Europe, Japan, Russia, Israel, and New Zealand. The chapters cover a range of topics in human and animal experimental psychology. The first section deals with psychobiological processes - the interplay of body and mind in determining intelligence, stress, and pain. The next five chapters address current issues in neuropsychology and neuroscience, including the neural correlates of attention and vision. A third section looks at learning processes in humans and animals, and a fourth deals with a range of topics in perception and cognition. The final five chapters take a developmental perspective, presenting theoretical and empirical analyses of the acquisition of perceptual and cognitive abilities. Overall, the collection illustrates the growing trend to break down traditional barriers between areas of experimental psychology; there are many instances of profitable interactions between researchers studying aspects of behavior and those studying the biological bases of these behaviors. The twenty-six chapters give an excellent overview of current research in scientific psychology.
