Book Natural Element Method for the Simulation of Structures and Processes

Download or read book Natural Element Method for the Simulation of Structures and Processes written by Francisco Chinesta and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2013-03-04 with total page 195 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Computational mechanics is the discipline concerned with the use of computational methods to study phenomena governed by the principles of mechanics. Before the emergence of computational science (also called scientific computing) as a "third way" besides theoretical and experimental sciences, computational mechanics was widely considered to be a sub-discipline of applied mechanics. It is now considered to be a sub-discipline within computational science. This book presents a recent state of the art on the foundations and applications of the meshless natural element method in computational mechanics, including structural mechanics and material forming processes involving solids and Newtonian and non-Newtonian fluids.

Book New Approaches in Modeling Multiphase Flows and Dispersion in Turbulence Fractal Methods and Synthetic Turbulence

Download or read book New Approaches in Modeling Multiphase Flows and Dispersion in Turbulence Fractal Methods and Synthetic Turbulence written by F.C.G.A. Nicolleau and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2011-10-29 with total page 159 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book contains a collection of the main contributions from the first five workshops held by Ercoftac Special Interest Group on Synthetic Turbulence Models (SIG42. It is intended as an illustration of the sig’s activities and of the latest developments in the field. This volume investigates the use of Kinematic Simulation (KS) and other synthetic turbulence models for the particular application to environmental flows. This volume offers the best syntheses on the research status in KS, which is widely used in various domains, including Lagrangian aspects in turbulence mixing/stirring, particle dispersion/clustering, and last but not least, aeroacoustics. Flow realizations with complete spatial, and sometime spatio-temporal, dependency, are generated via superposition of random modes (mostly spatial, and sometime spatial and temporal, Fourier modes), with prescribed constraints such as: strict incompressibility (divergence-free velocity field at each point), high Reynolds energy spectrum. Recent improvements consisted in incorporating linear dynamics, for instance in rotating and/or stably-stratified flows, with possible easy generalization to MHD flows, and perhaps to plasmas. KS for channel flows have also been validated. However, the absence of "sweeping effects" in present conventional KS versions is identified as a major drawback in very different applications: inertial particle clustering as well as in aeroacoustics. Nevertheless, this issue was addressed in some reference papers, and merits to be revisited in the light of new studies in progress.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book contains extended and revised versions of the best papers that have been presented during the twelfth edition of the IFIP TC10/WG10.5 International Conference on Very Large Scale Integration, a Global System-on-a-Chip Design & CAD Conference. The 12* edition was held at the Lufthansa Training Center in Seeheim-Jugenheim, south of Darmstadt, Germany (December 1-3, 2003). Previous conferences have taken place in Edinburgh (81), Trondheim (83), Tokyo (85), Vancouver (87), Munich (89), Edinburgh (91), Grenoble (93), Tokyo (95), Gramado (97), Lisbon (99)andMontpellier(01). The purpose of this conference, sponsored by IFIP TC 10 Working Group 10.5, is to provide a forum to exchange ideas and show research results in the field of microelectronics design. The current trend toward increasing chip integration brings about exhilarating new challenges both at the physical and system-design levels: this conference aims to address these exciting new issues. The 2003 edition of VLSI-SoC conserved the traditional structure, which has been successful in previous editions. The quality of submissions (142 papers) made the selection process difficult, but finally 57 papers and 14 posters were accepted for presentation in VLSI-SoC 2003. Submissions came from Austria, Bulgaria, Brazil, Canada, Egypt, England, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Hungary, India, Iran, Israel, Italy, Japan, Korea, Malaysia, Mexico, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Spain, Sweden, Taiwan and the United States of America. From 57 papers presented at the conference, 18 were selected to have an extended and revised version included in this book.

Book Computer Simulation in Physics and Engineering

Download or read book Computer Simulation in Physics and Engineering written by Martin Oliver Steinhauser and published by Walter de Gruyter. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 532 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This work is a needed reference for widely used techniques and methods of computer simulation in physics and other disciplines, such as materials science. Molecular dynamics computes a molecule's reactions and dynamics based on physical models; Monte Carlo uses random numbers to image a system's behaviour when there are different possible outcomes with related probabilities. The work conveys both the theoretical foundations as well as applications and "tricks of the trade", that often are scattered across various papers. Thus it will meet a need and fill a gap for every scientist who needs computer simulations for his/her task at hand. In addition to being a reference, case studies and exercises for use as course reading are included.

Book Multiple Representations in Physics Education

Download or read book Multiple Representations in Physics Education written by David F. Treagust and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-07-24 with total page 329 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This volume is important because despite various external representations, such as analogies, metaphors, and visualizations being commonly used by physics teachers, educators and researchers, the notion of using the pedagogical functions of multiple representations to support teaching and learning is still a gap in physics education. The research presented in the three sections of the book is introduced by descriptions of various psychological theories that are applied in different ways for designing physics teaching and learning in classroom settings. The following chapters of the book illustrate teaching and learning with respect to applying specific physics multiple representations in different levels of the education system and in different physics topics using analogies and models, different modes, and in reasoning and representational competence. When multiple representations are used in physics for teaching, the expectation is that they should be successful. To ensure this is the case, the implementation of representations should consider design principles for using multiple representations. Investigations regarding their effect on classroom communication as well as on the learning results in all levels of schooling and for different topics of physics are reported. The book is intended for physics educators and their students at universities and for physics teachers in schools to apply multiple representations in physics in a productive way.
