Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: 'It is hard to imagine a more enticing topic: why some Japanese firms succeeded in the 1990s despite an economy that failed. The answers are both common sense - operational effectiveness and CEO leadership - and Japan specific - break with traditions. The lessons about leadership, in particular, have wider relevance for leaders, managers, consultants and academics.' - Andrew Campbell, Ashridge Strategic Management Centre, UK Transformational CEOs questions why some Japanese firms succeeded in the 1990s despite an economy that failed - regardless of the burst of the 'bubble' economy, a number of Japanese companies have maintained or extended their international leadership in particular sectors. The authors argue that whilst some of the reasons for successes are plain common sense - operational effectiveness and superior CEO leadership - some are Japan-specific and point to a break with traditional leadership rationale.

Book Pay Performance Sensitivity

Download or read book Pay Performance Sensitivity written by Lee-Seok Hwang and published by . This book was released on 1998 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The pay-performance sensitivity of Japanese CEO compensation is systematically associated with both firm characteristicsand individual attributes as invoked from agency theory and human capital theory. The results support the hypothesis that continuous monitoring by the main bank and other member firms of the same business group contributes to aligning the interests of Japanese CEOs with those of outside shareholders through an enhanced sensitivity of CEO compensation to firm performance. Additionally, firm size, and the CEO's age and tenure as CEO influence pay- performance sensitivity in Japanese firms.

Book Analysis of Senior Management Teams that Have Demonstrated a Proclivity for Growth

Download or read book Analysis of Senior Management Teams that Have Demonstrated a Proclivity for Growth written by David Thomas and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2010-04-20 with total page 388 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a PhD thesis that is highly relevant to anyone involved in management. It identifies and analyses in depth the key constructs of leadership, teamwork and enterprise that are vital for a successful 'growth' business. The focus is on leadership, enterprise and the make-up of senior management teams, but the research outcomes can equally be applied to any management team environment, such as committees, working groups, panels, or administrative bodies. Critically, an unsuitable leader will almost guarantee failure, so having the ability to recognise leaders that are capable of delivering success is crucial. This book is invaluable for those people who need to understand how leadership, teamwork and enterprise interact to create dynamic and highly successful management teams.

Book Corporate Governance and Value Creation in Japan

Download or read book Corporate Governance and Value Creation in Japan written by Ryohei Yanagi and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-04-16 with total page 251 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This is the first book to furnish a root cause of the low valuation of Japanese listed companies by using, as qualitative evidence, unique global investor surveys, which are rarely available for Japanese companies. Also contained in this book as quantitative evidence is empirical research with regression analysis implying a positive correlation between corporate governance and value creation in Japan. The author explains the rationale underlying the suggestion of the Ito Review on return on equity (ROE) 8% guidance, an almost 50% discounted valuation of the cash held by Japanese companies, corporate value and ROE, equity spread as a key performance indicator for value creation, an optimal dividend policy based on optimal capital structure, risk-adjusted hurdle rates for value-creative investment criteria, and the synchronization of environmental, social, and governance with equity spread. Illustrated with relevant statistics, evidence of shareholders’ voices, case studies, and empirical research, the book is highly recommended for readers who seek qualitative and quantitative evidence of Japan’s problems and potential prescriptions in connection with value creation. “This book empirically proves the relationship between non-financial capitals defined by IIRC and corporate value, and provides a convincing method to unlock corporate value in Japan via Abenomics corporate governance reforms. A must read!” Richard S. Howitt, Chief Executive Officer, International Integrated Reporting Council (IIRC) “This book addresses emerging issues such as the "Power of Intangibles" in addition to IMA-defined "Equity Spread" as a gauge for value creation from the viewpoint of management accounting. It is highly recommended for finance and accounting professionals.” Jeffrey C. Thomson, CMA, CAE. President and CEO, Institute of Management Accountants (IMA)

Book Transforming Japanese Business

Download or read book Transforming Japanese Business written by Anshuman Khare and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2019-12-06 with total page 274 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book explores how the business transformation taking place in Japan is influenced by the digital revolution. Its chapters present approaches and examples from sectors commonly understood to be visible arenas of digital transformation—3D printing and mobility, for instance—as well as some from not-so-obvious sectors, such as retail, services, and fintech. Business today is facing unprecedented change especially due to the adoption of new, digital technologies, with a noticeable transformation of manufacturing and services. The changes have been brought by advanced robotics, the emergence of artificial intelligence, and digital networks that are growing in size and capability as the number of connected devices explodes. In addition, there are advanced manufacturing and collaborative connected platforms, including machine-to-machine communications. Adoption of digital technology has caused process disruptions in both the manufacturing and services sectors and led to new business models and new products. While examining the preparedness of the Japanese economy to embrace these changes, the book explores the impact of digitally influenced changes on some selected sectors from a Japanese perspective. It paints a big picture in explaining how a previously manufacturing-centric, successful economy adopts change to retain and rebuild success in the global environment. Japan as a whole is embracing, yet also avoiding—innovating but also restricting—various forms of digitalization of life and work. The book, with its 17 chapters, is a collaborative effort of individuals contributing diverse points of view as technologists, academics, and managers.
