Nous utilisons ce mode de communication lors de la majorité de nos activités de la vie quotidienne que ce soit dans les tâches professionnelles, dans nos loisirs, ou en remplissant notre devoir de citoyen. L’écrit a une place tellement important dans notre quotidien (affiches, enseignes, panneaux routiers...) que la lecture est presque devenue automatique, inconsciente. L’acquisition de la lecture et de l’écriture est donc une étape importante dans la vie d’un jeune enfant. Elle va conditionner son avenir scolaire et professionnel et par là son niveau socioculturel futur car les écrits renferment le savoir. Cependant pour certains, notamment les dyslexiques, l’acquisition difficile de la lecture et de l’écriture est une entrave à l’enrichissement de leurs connaissances. Voix-Haute est une méthode dont l’objectif est d’apprendre ensemble la langue orale et le code écrit. Elle passe par la lecture en groupe et à haute voix de textes linéaires, Moulins A Parole ou M@P. Les M@P sont projetés sur un tableau afin que l’attention du groupe soit concentrée en un seul endroit. Ils sont le support d’exercices phonologiques, sémantiques, et mnésiques et, permettent d’appréhender le véritable but de l’écrit qui devient un support de l’échange verbal. Nous avons proposé à deux groupes d’enfants dyslexiques de participer à des ateliers selon la méthode Voix-Haute à raison de cinq séances par groupe. Nous avons évalué et comparé leurs compétences à l’écrit ce qui nous a permis d’objectiver, mais de manière non-généralisable, une efficacité de la méthode sur différents aspects altérés dans la dyslexie en particulier sur la procédure d’assemblage, la mémoire et la compréhension de phrases. Nous pensons que la méthode Voix-Haute est un outil intéressant en guidance parentale ou en complément d’une rééducation de ces pathologies (les dyslexies) car elle offre des techniques que les enfants peuvent s’approprier facilement.

Book excerpt: The U.S. population is aging, and occupational therapy practitioners working with older adults must have the skills to address multiple health issues, including vision loss. Although typical aging does not cause low vision, four major causes of vision impairment are directly related to the aging process: (1) age-related macular degeneration (AMD), (2) diabetic retinopathy, (3) glaucoma, and (4) cataracts. Instances of these impairments are expected to double by the year 2050, making low vision a significant public health issue. This Practice Guideline includes occupational therapy assessment and intervention guidelines for older adults who have visual acuity impairments, visual field impairments, or both as a result of a low vision diagnosis. Screening, referral, and evaluation are covered for clients for central visual field impairments, such as AMD and cataract; peripheral field impairments, such as glaucoma, hemianopsia, and quadrantanopsia; and mixed visual field loss, such as diabetic retinopathy. This work can help occupational therapists and occupational therapy assistants, as well as individuals who manage, reimburse, or set policy regarding occupational therapy services, understand the contribution of occupational therapy to treating older adults with low vision. Appendixes include selected diagnostic and billing codes and evidence tables.
