Book Pragmatic Approach to Qualitative Case Study Research Learning by Doing A Case of Distance Learning Research in Malaysia UUM Press

Download or read book Pragmatic Approach to Qualitative Case Study Research Learning by Doing A Case of Distance Learning Research in Malaysia UUM Press written by Hisham Dzakiria and published by UUM Press. This book was released on 2008-01-01 with total page 331 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book for anyone who wants to undertake an engaging, satisfying, productive, and a more successful career as a qualitative researcher. This book is intended to contribute to the popularisation of qualitative research in Malaysia. Qualitative studies in educational research are very limited in many countries; and to date, there has been very little work done using this form of educational inquiry in Malaysia. The dominant tradition has followed the positivist paradigm. A qualitative case study offers a different approach and generates a range of information of different qualities from that obtained using traditional approaches. This book provides both the theories and practical practices to undertake a qualitative study. The conception of this book began from the assumption that our world is interpreted through language as means of communication and understanding. Writing narratives of experience is becoming a common way of describing how people make sense of their experience or problems at hand. At the root of the naturalistic inquiry exhibited in this book, is an interest in understanding the experience of learners and the meanings they make of the distance learning experience at Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM). This study was designed as a single case focusing on distance learners of different backgrounds in UUM.

Download or read book Understanding Designing and Conducting Qualitative Research in Education written by John F. Schostak and published by . This book was released on 2002-01 with total page 250 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How do I get my research off the ground and ensure that it is 'new', 'novel' and 'important'? How do I make sense of data, build theories and write a compelling thesis? How can my research bring about change? This book is more than an introduction to doing research - it helps readers identify what is new and important about their project, how their research relates to previous work and how it may be used to bring about change at individual, community, national or even international levels. A total strategy is offered focussing on the notion of the 'project' as an organising framework that ensures that the methods chosen are appropriate to the subject and aim of the study. The intention throughout is to help readers move from being able to apply methods to being able to interrogate the theoretical underpinnings of particular perspectives so that they can feel confident about the particular kinds of knowledge claim they are making. The book is important reading for students at Masters and doctoral level and will be particularly helpful for professionals from education, health, social work, criminal justice and business who carry out research in their workplace and who need to reflect upon the consequences and possibilities for action and change.

Book Doing Qualitative Research

Download or read book Doing Qualitative Research written by Wolff-Michael Roth and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2005-01-01 with total page 508 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The author takes readers on a journey of a large number of issues in designing actual studies of knowing and learning in the classroom, exploring actual data, and putting readers face to face with problems that he actually or possibly encountered, and what he has done or possibly could have done. The reader subsequently sees the results of data collection in the different analyses provided. The author shows how one writes very different studies using the same data sources but very different theoretical assumptions and analytic technique. The author brings his publication experience in very different disciplines-including science education, mathematics education, teacher education, curriculum, applied cognitive science, linguistics, social studies of science, and epistemology-into play to provide readers with way of experiencing research as praxis. The book is organized around six major themes (sections), in the course of which it develops the practical problems an educational researcher might face in a large variety of settings. In Part A, Collecting Data, the author introduces design experiments and ethnographic designs; in Part B, Analyzing Data, finding the right zoom level and focus, cognitive phenomenology, discourse analysis, and conversation analysis constitute the organizing themes. For each theme, the author uses one of his extensive databases to draw on examples, problems, decisions, solutions, and so on. The book was written to be used by upper undergraduate and graduate students taking courses in research design; because of its practical approach, it is highly suitable for those contexts where research methods courses do not exist. The audience also includes professors, who want to have a reference on design and methodology, and those who have not yet had the opportunity to employ a particular method.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Written by scholars from three generations of qualitative methodologists, Qualitative Research Design and Methods: An Introduction situates qualitative research within the history of the field and integrates this history within discussions of specific research designs. This novel approach allows readers to come to know the genealogy of the field and how previous generations of scholars have informed what we know today as qualitative research. The text reflects these more traditional as well as emerging qualitative research approaches, providing a theoretically grounded approach to designing and implementing qualitative research studies. While some introductory research texts focus on the specific methods of qualitative research with little attention to the role of theory, this book forefronts theory in qualitative research. The authors speak to students new to qualitative research with clear discussions of theory and theoretical concepts and how those notions must be considered throughout all aspects of research design, implementation, and representation of findings. Each chapter integrates discussion of theory. In addition, the book highlights the role of ethics in the same way with a chapter at the beginning as well as discussions of ethics threaded throughout each of the design chapters. Book Women in 4IR Gender Inclusivity in Malaysia UUM Press

Download or read book Women in 4IR Gender Inclusivity in Malaysia UUM Press written by Norizan Abdul Razak and published by UUM Press. This book was released on 2023-12-03 with total page 181 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Women in 4IR Gender Inclusivity in Malaysia delves into three key themes revolving around the role of women in the context of the Fourth Industrial Revolution (4IR). Firstly, it explores the multifaceted dimensions of women’s leadership, offering a holistic perspective. Secondly, it explores the realms of gender equality and equity within decision-making and national policy making processes. Thirdly, it examines women’s health and their involvement in the world of business and the economy. In many ways, the 4IR and the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) exert a profound influence on the lives of women and girls. The COVID-19 pandemic has accelerated inclusivity through the utilization of technology. However, the unprecedented digital transformation also introduces new challenges for women and girls, who encounter a diverse array of difficulties in engaging with the digital economy across different geographical contexts. Thus, their active participation in the economy and leadership roles, along with their health and well-being warrant comprehensive attention. Empowering them is imperative in strengthening the ecosystem and dismantling gender barriers to accelerate the their progress in shaping the futures. As the country rides the waves of 4IR, it is incumbent upon the nation to seize the opportunity to foster greater workplace diversity and nurture a profoundly inclusive digital society. The book is research-oriented and highlights a wide spectrum of issues related to women in general. It aims to ignite dialogue on achieving equality in opportunity regardless of gender, recognizing technology as the medium that can bridge economic disparities and digital divide, which are the imperatives of gender inclusivity.

Book Strategies of Qualitative Inquiry

Download or read book Strategies of Qualitative Inquiry written by Norman K. Denzin and published by SAGE Publications. This book was released on 2012-10-24 with total page 449 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is the second of three paperback volumes taken from The SAGE Handbook of Qualitative Research, Fourth Edition. This volume isolates the major strategies—historically, the research methods—that researchers can use in conducting concrete qualitative studies. The question of methods begins with questions of design and the matters of money and funding. These questions always begin with the researcher who moves from a research question to a paradigm or perspective, and then to the empirical world. The history and uses of these strategies are explored extensively in this volume. The chapters move from forms (and problems with) mixed methods inquiry to case study, performance and narrative ethnography, to constructionist analytics to grounded theory strategies, testimonies, participatory action research, and clinical research.
