Book Applied Psychology in Everyday Life

Download or read book Applied Psychology in Everyday Life written by Christopher J. L. Cunningham and published by Cambridge Scholars Publishing. This book was released on 2011-07-12 with total page 170 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The practice of psychology involves more than the clinical treatment of mental illness. Although the media may perpetuate the view that all psychologists are healthcare professionals, or specialists who deal with deviant or non-normal behaviors, the majority of psychologists study and practice in diverse areas of human functioning other than clinical psychology. Psychology is the scientific study of human thought and behavior, all human behavior. It is a science with the same rigorous research standards as physics, chemistry, or biology. This book showcases a variety of applications of psychological science in the areas of health, law, sports, business, religion, and money. It is an outgrowth of the River Cities Industrial-Organizational Psychology Conference held at The University of Tennessee at Chattanooga, USA, in October 2008. The theme of the 2008 conference was “Applying Psychology to Everyday Life.” We hope the content of this volume enhances your awareness of the importance of applied psychology and that it motivates you to further explore its potential to impact our daily lives.

Book Applied Doughnut Economics and Neuroeconomic Psychology for Business and Politics

Download or read book Applied Doughnut Economics and Neuroeconomic Psychology for Business and Politics written by Larsen, Torben and published by IGI Global. This book was released on 2021-05-21 with total page 257 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Psychological and ecological research has eroded the foundation of mainstream economics, and a new approach is needed rather than an adaptation of existing theory. The most promising new approach is doughnut economics (DE), version 2.0 of the discipline of economics for the 21st century that presents economics as an embedded discipline between the social foundation and the ecosystem with a focus on the disciplinary boundaries. The study of neuroeconomics, such as doughnut economics, still holds a gap between “laboratory” findings on homo neuroeconomics and the issues in contemporary behavioral economics. To understand a positivist application of doughnut economics within the new economic frameworks of the 21st century, further research must be discussed. Applied Doughnut Economics and Neuroeconomic Psychology for Business and Politics follows the economic history from the Stone Age to that of the modern creative man and then provides a specific focus on doughnut economics and 21st century neuroeconomics. This new type of behavioral economics will be linked to neuroeconomic psychology and behavioral science with a focus in areas such as cognitive training, economic ecology, the new welfare economy, and globalized markets. This book is ideal for health economists, economists, leaders in politics and business, psychologists, economic theorists, practitioners, researchers, academicians, and students interested in doughnut economics and the psychology behind it.

Book Evolutionary Psychology in the Business Sciences

Download or read book Evolutionary Psychology in the Business Sciences written by Gad Saad and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2011-07-09 with total page 392 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: All individuals who operate in the business sphere, whether as consumers, employers, employees, entrepreneurs, or financial traders to name a few constituents, share a common biological heritage and are defined by a universal human nature. As such, it is surprising that so few business scholars have incorporated biological and evolutionary-informed theories within their conceptual toolboxes. This edited book addresses this lacuna by culling chapters at the intersection of the evolutionary behavioral sciences and specific business contexts including in marketing, consumer behavior, advertising, innovation and creativity, intertemporal choice, negotiations, competition and cooperation in organizational settings, sex differences in workplace patterns, executive leadership, business ethics, store design, behavioral decision making, and electronic communication. To reword the famous aphorism of T. G. Dobzhansky, nothing in business makes sense except in the light of evolution.

Book Applied Psychology

Download or read book Applied Psychology written by Bernard Capen Ewer and published by . This book was released on 1923 with total page 504 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The peculiarly ambiguous character of applied psychology at the present time makes it appropriate to preface this book with an explicit statement of its purpose. The current development of the subject shows two widely divergent tendencies. The field covered by the subject is already large and is expanding rapidly, hence it has seemed best to limit the contents of the book to fundamental principles and the significant results attained in the three divisions of the field which have been most thoroughly explored, namely education, psychotherapy, and the psychology of industry, together with numerous illustrations drawn from other departments. The critical statement of principles is the most important part of the book, since it is by its misunderstanding of these that popular applied psychology usually goes astray. Throughout I have tried to keep the exposition as close as possible to common experience. Here psychology often succeeds only in giving precise form to what wise persons have long known, or reasons for what they have always done; but it is none the less desirable to have such exactitude and rationality scientifically established. This is perfectly genuine "applied psychology," though the fact is sometimes obscured in the atmosphere of experimental investigation. (PsycINFO Database Record (c) 2005 APA, all rights reserved).
