Book Applied Immunology and Biochemistry

Download or read book Applied Immunology and Biochemistry written by Taylor Barker and published by Scientific e-Resources. This book was released on 2019-09-07 with total page 344 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Immunology is a fast evolving subject, and attempt has been made in this work to keep it as much up-to-date as possible according to the requirement of the students and researchers in the field. Immunology is the study of how the body defends itself against disease. It helps us understand how the immune system is tricked into attacking its own tissue, leading to diseases like rheumatoid arthritis, diabetes or allergy. Immunodeficiency disorders involve malfunction of the immune system, resulting in infections that develop and recur more frequently, are more severe, and last longer than usual. Biochemistry is the study of how cells work at molecular level. Biochemistry, and the related field of molecular biology, are important in understanding the molecular basis of life and its role in the disease process. Biochemistry is the investigation of the molecular basis of life. Throughout the history of this scientific discipline, biochemists have worked to reveal the fundamental chemical and physical principles that underlie living processes, their success is demonstrated in the enormous impact that the biochemical approach has had on the life sciences. This book reviews the principles of immunology and biochemistry, provides basic concepts of it by extracting the important information on immunology and peasants it in a concise, uncluttered fashion to prepare students for their courses.

Book Pathways in Applied Immunology

Download or read book Pathways in Applied Immunology written by Konrad Messmer and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 160 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is dedicated to the memory of Walter Brendel, late Professor of Experimental Surgery and Chairman of the Institute for Surgical Research at the University of Munich, Germany. For 20 years Walter Brendel organized the renowned Round Table Symposium on Applied Immunology, first in Kitzbiihel and later in Axams, Austria. On the occasion of the 20th symposium in January 1989 he gathered together a number of scientists who have been leaders in the field of transplantation immunology and clinical transplantation for the past two decades. All of them had participated at previous meetings, some on a regular basis. Many of the new discoveries in applied immunology and transplantation medicine were first presented and vividly dis cussed at the Round Table Symposia. The annual Kitzbiihel! Axams meetings became well-known and invitations much sought after, not only for this reason but also because of the uniquely intimate atmosphere that promoted the free exchange of research findings and theoretical cut and thrust.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book reviews how mathematical and computational approaches can be useful to help us understand how killer T-cell responses work to fight viral infections. It also demonstrates, in a writing style that exemplifies the point, that such mathematical and computational approaches are most valuable when coupled with experimental work through interdisciplinary collaborations. Designed to be useful to immunoligists and viroligists without extensive computational background, the book covers a broad variety of topics, including both basic immunological questions and the application of these insights to the understanding and treatment of pathogenic human diseases.

Book Experimental and Applied Immunotherapy

Download or read book Experimental and Applied Immunotherapy written by Jeffrey Medin and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2010-12-03 with total page 442 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Immunotherapy is now recognized as an essential component of treatment for a wide variety of cancers. It is an interdisciplinary field that is critically dependent upon an improved understanding of a vast network of cross-regulatory cellular populations and a diversity of molecular effectors; it is a leading example of translational medicine with a favorable concept-to-clinical-trial timeframe of just a few years. There are many established immunotherapies already in existence, but there are exciting new cancer immunotherapies just on the horizon, which are likely to be more potent, less toxic and more cost effective than many therapies currently in use. Experimental and Applied Immunotherapy is a state-of-the-art text offering a roadmap leading to the creation of these future cancer-fighting immunotherapies. It includes essays by leading researchers that cover a wide variety of topics including T cell and non-T cell therapy, monoclonal antibody therapy, dendritic cell-based cancer vaccines, mesenchymal stromal cells, negative regulators in cancer immunology and immunotherapy, non-cellular aspects of cancer immunotherapy, the combining of cancer vaccines with conventional therapies, the combining of oncolytic viruses with cancer immunotherapy, transplantation, and more. The field of immunotherapy holds great promise that will soon come to fruition if creative investigators can bridge seemingly disparate disciplines, such as T cell therapy, gene therapy, and transplantation therapy. This text is a vital tool in the building of that bridge.

The ability of animals toward of disease varies with different species and among individuals of the same family. Under nor mal conditions, an animal may be protected indefi nitely from infection. Nevertheless, if his vital resis tance be permitted to fall or he be exposed to a viru lent infection, his defences may crumble instantly and disease be contracted. On the other hand, the natural immunity of certain species to infection is remarkable the negro to yellow fever and most of the lower ani mals to the venereal diseases.
