Book excerpt: Mössbauer Effect: Principles and Applications focuses on the processes, methodologies, and reactions involved in Mössbauer effect, as well as atomic motion, use of the effect in studying hyperfine structures, quadropole coupling, and isomer shift. The manuscript first discusses resonant absorption, emission of gamma rays by nuclei, width of gamma-ray spectrum, and emission from bound atoms. The text then surveys counting, modulation, and low-temperature techniques. The publication offers information on relativity and the Mössbauer effect, atomic motion, quadropole coupling, and magnetic hyperfine structure. Discussions focus on gravitational red shift and combined magnetic and electric hyperfine coupling. The text then evaluates magnetism of metals and alloys, chemical applications, and linewidth and line shape. The manuscript is a valuable source of data for physicists and readers interested in the Mössbauer effect.

Book Industrial Applications of the M ssbauer Effect

Download or read book Industrial Applications of the M ssbauer Effect written by G.J Long and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 784 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As is often the case, the preface is the last task to be finished during the preparation of a large volume such as you are now holding. The first task, obtaining approval for a symposium on the industrial applications, now seems a long time ago. The idea orginated with John Stevens, probably in 1982, from his observation of papers dealing with industrial applications of the Mossbauer effect appearing in the Mossbauer Effect Reference and Data Journal. His initial suggestion for a symposium entitled "Industrial Applications of the Mossbauer Effect" to be held at a national meeting of the American Chemical Society eventually led to the symposium at the International Chemical Congress of Pacific Basin Societies which met in Honolulu, Hawaii in December 1984. This volume is the result of the symposium at the above mentioned Congress, but is not actually the 'proceedings' of the symposium because this volume does not contain all of the over one hundred Mossbauer effect papers that were pre sented at the symposium. Rather it contains a selection of papers that the or ganizing committee for the symposium deemed most appropriate for a volume devoted to industrial applications of the Mossbauer effect. The final volume also contains six chapters that were not a part of the symposium but which are closely related to the topic. There is another difference from many proceedings.

Download or read book Applications of Mossbauer Spectroscopy written by Richard L. Cohen and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 363 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Applications of Mössbauer Spectroscopy, Volume I is a collection of essays that discusses the research performed using Mössbauer spectroscopy. The book presents the effect of some stabilizers of polyethylene. It demonstrates the polymerization processes and structure of catalytically active centers. The text also describes the chemical processes in butyl rubber vulcanization. It discusses the experimental studies of iron transport proteins and the thermal decomposition of solids. The section that follows describes the paramagnetic hyperfine structure. The book will provide valuable insights for scientists, chemists, students, and researchers in the field of organic chemistry.

Book M ssbauer Spectroscopy and its Applications

Download or read book M ssbauer Spectroscopy and its Applications written by T. E. Cranshaw and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 1986-01-23 with total page 132 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The technique of Mössbauer spectroscopy is important in the study of the bonding, structural, magnetic, nuclear and dynamical properties of various systems. Although used mainly by physicists and chemists, the method has also become a common means of investigation for materials scientists, geologists, biologists, surface scientists and others. This book describes the principles of the technique, and discusses its applications in various fields. It will be invaluable for anyone using the technique of Mössbauer spectroscopy for the first time.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Mossbauer Effect Methodology, Volume 1, records the proceedings of the First Symposium on Mossbauer Effect Methodology. This Symposium was sponsored by the New England Nuclear Corporation and the Technical Measurement Corporation, and was devoted to principles, techniques, and applications of the Mossbauer effect. The Symposium was held at the Sheraton-Atlantic Hotel in New York City on january 26, 1965. Dr. Stanley Ruby, of Argonne National Laboratory, was Chairman of the aU-day session. About 250 people attended the Symposium, and interest appeared sufficient to warrant continuation of this Symposium series. It is hoped that future Symposia can be organized which will serve as a forum for presentation of advances in methodology. The papers presented in this volume review the current status of applications, describe instrument systems used, elu cidate measurement techniques applied, and formulate means of creating required environments for use in Mossbauer effect studies. With the proliferation of applications of the Mos sbauer effect in physics, as well as in chemistry and biology, the need for complete description of transducer systems, detection and data handling methods, and environment modification techniques be came apparent. The body of such experience, developed and possessed by a relatively small group of physicists, primarily, has not been readily accessible to those in other fields. The editor organized this Symposium in response to many expres sions of a need for such information.

Book M ssbauer Effect in Lattice Dynamics

Download or read book M ssbauer Effect in Lattice Dynamics written by Yi-Long Chen and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2007-09-24 with total page 423 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This up-to-date review closes an important gap in the literature by providing a comprehensive description of the Mössbauer effect in lattice dynamics, along with a collection of applications in metals, alloys, amorphous solids, molecular crystals, thin films, and nanocrystals. It is the first to systematically compare Mössbauer spectroscopy using synchrotron radiation to conventional Mössbauer spectroscopy, discussing in detail its advantages and capabilities, backed by the latest theoretical developments and experimental examples. Intended as a self-contained volume that may be used as a complete reference or textbook, it adopts new pedagogical approaches with several non-traditional and refreshing theoretical expositions, while all quantitative relations are derived with the necessary details so as to be easily followed by the reader. Two entire chapters are devoted to the study of the dynamics of impurity atoms in solids, while a thorough description of the Mannheim model as a theoretical method is presented and its predictions compared to experimental results. Finally, an in-depth analysis of absorption of Mössbauer radiation is presented, based on recent research by one of the authors, resulting in an exact expression of fractional absorption, otherwise unavailable in the literature. The whole is supplemented by elaborate appendices containing constants and parameters.
