Book Solder Joint Reliability

Download or read book Solder Joint Reliability written by John H. Lau and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-27 with total page 649 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Solders have given the designer of modern consumer, commercial, and military electronic systems a remarkable flexibility to interconnect electronic components. The properties of solder have facilitated broad assembly choices that have fueled creative applications to advance technology. Solder is the electrical and me chanical "glue" of electronic assemblies. This pervasive dependency on solder has stimulated new interest in applica tions as well as a more concerted effort to better understand materials properties. We need not look far to see solder being used to interconnect ever finer geo metries. Assembly of micropassive discrete devices that are hardly visible to the unaided eye, of silicon chips directly to ceramic and plastic substrates, and of very fine peripheral leaded packages constitute a few of solder's uses. There has been a marked increase in university research related to solder. New electronic packaging centers stimulate applications, and materials engineering and science departments have demonstrated a new vigor to improve both the materials and our understanding of them. Industrial research and development continues to stimulate new application, and refreshing new packaging ideas are emerging. New handbooks have been published to help both the neophyte and seasoned packaging engineer.

Book Application of the Finite Element Method to Metal Forming Problems

Download or read book Application of the Finite Element Method to Metal Forming Problems written by Shiro Kobayashi and published by . This book was released on 1986 with total page 132 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Applicability of the finite element method in metal-forming process modeling has been expanded and the use of its capability for solving industrial problems has been demonstrated in the area of; (1) spread analysis in three-dimensional forming processes, (2) perform design and (3) calculation of residual stresses involved in metal forming. In the analysis of spread, sideway spread in block compression between two parallel flat plates was analyzed, using simplified three dimensional eight-node elements. The investigation has been extended to the development of general three-dimensional finite element technique and, the analysis of open-die forging was conducted for producing two size bars. A novel approach to preform design by tracing a loading path backward from a given final configuration was applied to precision preform design in plane-strain rolling. The technique was extended to include the temperature calculation in the scheme and applied to precision preform design in nosing at elevated temperatures. For the investigation of residual stresses, a comprehensive review on the subject has been made, and the finite element program was developed for the determination of residual stresses for radial forging. Keywords: Plastic deformation, Radial forging, Open-die forging, Preform design, Shell nosing.

Book Finite Element Plasticity and Metalforming Analysis

Download or read book Finite Element Plasticity and Metalforming Analysis written by G. W. Rowe and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2005-07-07 with total page 324 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Finite Element Plasticity and Metalforming Analysis is concerned with describing a computer based technique for aiding the optimisation of metalforming processes. These methods should enable tool and product designers to reduce development lead times for the introduction of new products, to optimise the process and to help improve the quality and reliability of products. The book is specifically devoted to the finite element method and its use in plasticity problems. It details the theoretical background assuming little previous knowledge, and describes how it can be implemented and used to examine realistic metalforming processes. Forging, rolling and extrusion are typical processes covered, in addition to specific problems such as ductile fracture and how it can be predicted. It is the first text that describes in detail elastic-plastic finite-element theory and how it is used in forming analyses. The technique described can be used to simulate metal flow in 2- and 3-D problems and can provide details of stress, strain, strain-rate and temperature distributions in the workpiece as it is being formed.

Book Finite Element Modelling of Large Plastic Strains in a Rolling Contact Metal Forming Process

Download or read book Finite Element Modelling of Large Plastic Strains in a Rolling Contact Metal Forming Process written by Shirish N. Kher and published by . This book was released on 1987 with total page 294 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A numerical model to simulate the deformations in gear teeth subjected to rolling loads an in the ausrolling process has been developed. Ausrolling involves applying rolling loads to the gear when it is in the metastable austenitic state. A model of the process must consider material, geometric and surface non-linearities as well as changes in temperature and material properties with time and rolling loads in three dimensions. Only some of these requirements, namely, the elastic-plastic flow; geometric non-linearities due to large deformations; frictional contact conditions at die-workpiece interface; and the travelling loads due to rolling, have been considered here to be of primary importance. The objective of this thesis is, accordingly, to satisfactorily establish the forementioned features in the nonlinear finite element analysis program (NOFEAP). The theoretical aspects of the non-linear formulations have been briefly described and the model of the rolling process has been outlined here. The implemented non-linear formulations have been briefly compared, individually and in various combinations, with existing analytical, numerical and experimental solutions. Since no such results are available in the literature to compare the response of the rolling model, several experiments have been conducted on aluminum 6061 disks. Keywords: Ausrolling, Numerical modelling, Finite element analysis, Plastic strain.

Book Application of Finite Element Analysis in Multiscale Metal Forming Process

Download or read book Application of Finite Element Analysis in Multiscale Metal Forming Process written by Zhengyi Jiang and published by . This book was released on 2018 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The application of finite element analysis has been presented in multiscale metal forming process. A 3D finite element method (FEM) has first been proposed to analyze the deformation mechanism of thin strip cold rolling with the consideration of friction variation in deformation zone. The crystal plasticity finite element method (CPFEM) is applied on the simulation of surface asperity flattening in the uniaxial planar compressing process. 3D Voronoi tessellation and frictional modeling have been applied in microforming processes. All simulation results from the proposed modeling have been validated by the related experimental results.
