Book Applications of Polynomial Systems

Download or read book Applications of Polynomial Systems written by David A. Cox and published by American Mathematical Soc.. This book was released on 2020-03-02 with total page 250 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Systems of polynomial equations can be used to model an astonishing variety of phenomena. This book explores the geometry and algebra of such systems and includes numerous applications. The book begins with elimination theory from Newton to the twenty-first century and then discusses the interaction between algebraic geometry and numerical computations, a subject now called numerical algebraic geometry. The final three chapters discuss applications to geometric modeling, rigidity theory, and chemical reaction networks in detail. Each chapter ends with a section written by a leading expert. Examples in the book include oil wells, HIV infection, phylogenetic models, four-bar mechanisms, border rank, font design, Stewart-Gough platforms, rigidity of edge graphs, Gaussian graphical models, geometric constraint systems, and enzymatic cascades. The reader will encounter geometric objects such as Bézier patches, Cayley-Menger varieties, and toric varieties; and algebraic objects such as resultants, Rees algebras, approximation complexes, matroids, and toric ideals. Two important subthemes that appear in multiple chapters are toric varieties and algebraic statistics. The book also discusses the history of elimination theory, including its near elimination in the middle of the twentieth century. The main goal is to inspire the reader to learn about the topics covered in the book. With this in mind, the book has an extensive bibliography containing over 350 books and papers.

Book Numerically Solving Polynomial Systems with Bertini

Download or read book Numerically Solving Polynomial Systems with Bertini written by Daniel J. Bates and published by SIAM. This book was released on 2013-11-08 with total page 372 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is a guide to concepts and practice in numerical algebraic geometry ? the solution of systems of polynomial equations by numerical methods. Through numerous examples, the authors show how to apply the well-received and widely used open-source Bertini software package to compute solutions, including a detailed manual on syntax and usage options. The authors also maintain a complementary web page where readers can find supplementary materials and Bertini input files. Numerically Solving Polynomial Systems with Bertini approaches numerical algebraic geometry from a user's point of view with numerous examples of how Bertini is applicable to polynomial systems. It treats the fundamental task of solving a given polynomial system and describes the latest advances in the field, including algorithms for intersecting and projecting algebraic sets, methods for treating singular sets, the nascent field of real numerical algebraic geometry, and applications to large polynomial systems arising from differential equations. Those who wish to solve polynomial systems can start gently by finding isolated solutions to small systems, advance rapidly to using algorithms for finding positive-dimensional solution sets (curves, surfaces, etc.), and learn how to use parallel computers on large problems. These techniques are of interest to engineers and scientists in fields where polynomial equations arise, including robotics, control theory, economics, physics, numerical PDEs, and computational chemistry.

Book Robust Industrial Control Systems

Download or read book Robust Industrial Control Systems written by Michael J. Grimble and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2006-05-01 with total page 698 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Robust Industrial Control Systems: Optimal Design Approach for Polynomial Systems presents a comprehensive introduction to the use of frequency domain and polynomial system design techniques for a range of industrial control and signal processing applications. The solution of stochastic and robust optimal control problems is considered, building up from single-input problems and gradually developing the results for multivariable design of the later chapters. In addition to cataloguing many of the results in polynomial systems needed to calculate industrial controllers and filters, basic design procedures are also introduced which enable cost functions and system descriptions to be specified in order to satisfy industrial requirements. Providing a range of solutions to control and signal processing problems, this book: * Presents a comprehensive introduction to the polynomial systems approach for the solution of H_2 and H_infinity optimal control problems. * Develops robust control design procedures using frequency domain methods. * Demonstrates design examples for gas turbines, marine systems, metal processing, flight control, wind turbines, process control and manufacturing systems. * Includes the analysis of multi-degrees of freedom controllers and the computation of restricted structure controllers that are simple to implement. * Considers time-varying control and signal processing problems. * Addresses the control of non-linear processes using both multiple model concepts and new optimal control solutions. Robust Industrial Control Systems: Optimal Design Approach for Polynomial Systems is essential reading for professional engineers requiring an introduction to optimal control theory and insights into its use in the design of real industrial processes. Students and researchers in the field will also find it an excellent reference tool.

It provides a resource for high-school and undergraduate mathematics projects. Audience: accessible to readers with limited mathematical backgrounds. It is appropriate for undergraduate mechanical engineering courses in which robotics and mechanisms applications are studied.

Book Local Polynomial Modelling and Its Applications

Download or read book Local Polynomial Modelling and Its Applications written by Jianqing Fan and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2018-05-02 with total page 175 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Data-analytic approaches to regression problems, arising from many scientific disciplines are described in this book. The aim of these nonparametric methods is to relax assumptions on the form of a regression function and to let data search for a suitable function that describes the data well. The use of these nonparametric functions with parametric techniques can yield very powerful data analysis tools. Local polynomial modeling and its applications provides an up-to-date picture on state-of-the-art nonparametric regression techniques. The emphasis of the book is on methodologies rather than on theory, with a particular focus on applications of nonparametric techniques to various statistical problems. High-dimensional data-analytic tools are presented, and the book includes a variety of examples. This will be a valuable reference for research and applied statisticians, and will serve as a textbook for graduate students and others interested in nonparametric regression.

At the end of the book there are appendices to cover used material from algebra, algebraic geometry, D-modules and Gröbner basis theory. A long list of ''strong'' examples and an extensive bibliography conclude the book.
