Book Computational Methods for Plasticity

Download or read book Computational Methods for Plasticity written by Eduardo A. de Souza Neto and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2011-09-21 with total page 718 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The subject of computational plasticity encapsulates the numerical methods used for the finite element simulation of the behaviour of a wide range of engineering materials considered to be plastic – i.e. those that undergo a permanent change of shape in response to an applied force. Computational Methods for Plasticity: Theory and Applications describes the theory of the associated numerical methods for the simulation of a wide range of plastic engineering materials; from the simplest infinitesimal plasticity theory to more complex damage mechanics and finite strain crystal plasticity models. It is split into three parts - basic concepts, small strains and large strains. Beginning with elementary theory and progressing to advanced, complex theory and computer implementation, it is suitable for use at both introductory and advanced levels. The book: Offers a self-contained text that allows the reader to learn computational plasticity theory and its implementation from one volume. Includes many numerical examples that illustrate the application of the methodologies described. Provides introductory material on related disciplines and procedures such as tensor analysis, continuum mechanics and finite elements for non-linear solid mechanics. Is accompanied by purpose-developed finite element software that illustrates many of the techniques discussed in the text, downloadable from the book’s companion website. This comprehensive text will appeal to postgraduate and graduate students of civil, mechanical, aerospace and materials engineering as well as applied mathematics and courses with computational mechanics components. It will also be of interest to research engineers, scientists and software developers working in the field of computational solid mechanics.

Book Finite Element and Boundary Element Techniques from Mathematical and Engineering Point of View

Download or read book Finite Element and Boundary Element Techniques from Mathematical and Engineering Point of View written by E. Stein and published by Springer. This book was released on 2014-05-04 with total page 338 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Traditional FEM and the more recent BEM underlie many engineering computational methods and corresponding software. Both methods have their merits and also their limitations. The combination of both methods will provide an improved numerical tool in the future. The aim of this book is to present significant basic formulations of FEM and BEM and to show their common practical and mathematical foundations, their differences and possibilities for their combination. These include variational foundations, FEM and BEM for linear and non-linear elasticity and potential problems, the combination of FEM-BEM asymptotic error analysis, modifications due to corner and crack singularities and corresponding improvement of convergence, plastic analysis, numerical algorithms and engineering applications.

Book Mechanical Behaviour of Materials VI

Download or read book Mechanical Behaviour of Materials VI written by M. Jono and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 3510 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Significant progress in the science and technology of the mechanical behaviour of materials has been made in recent years. The greatest strides forward have occurred in the field of advanced materials with high performance, such as ceramics, composite materials, and intermetallic compounds. The Sixth International Conference on Mechanical Behaviour of Materials (ICM-6), taking place in Kyoto, Japan, 29 July - 2 August 1991 addressed these issues. In commemorating the fortieth anniversary of the Japan Society of Materials Science, organised by the Foundation for Advancement of International Science and supported by the Science Council of Japan, the information provided in these proceedings reflects the international nature of the meeting. It provides a valuable account of recent developments and problems in the field of mechanical behaviour of materials.

Book Boundary Elements

Download or read book Boundary Elements written by Qinghua Du and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-09-11 with total page 742 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Boundary Elements contains the proceedings of the International Conference on Boundary Elements Methods held at Beijing, China on October 14-17, 1986. The conference aims at interchanging the developments of the boundary element method or the boundary integral equation method, as well as the techniques and advances in many engineering, physical, or mechanical field. The various papers presented in the conference are organized in this book into eight parts. Part I talks about engineering in general. Subsequent parts focus on fluid mechanics, thermo-mechanics, solid mechanics, and dynamics. Applications of boundary elements method to shell and plate analyses, as well as to other types of analysis, are also shown in other parts in this book.

Book Nonconvex Optimization in Mechanics

Download or read book Nonconvex Optimization in Mechanics written by E.S. Mistakidis and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-21 with total page 295 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Nonconvexity and nonsmoothness arise in a large class of engineering applica tions. In many cases of practical importance the possibilities offered by opti mization with its algorithms and heuristics can substantially improve the per formance and the range of applicability of classical computational mechanics algorithms. For a class of problems this approach is the only one that really works. The present book presents in a comprehensive way the application of opti mization algorithms and heuristics in smooth and nonsmooth mechanics. The necessity of this approach is presented to the reader through simple, represen tative examples. As things become more complex, the necessary material from convex and nonconvex optimization and from mechanics are introduced in a self-contained way. Unilateral contact and friction problems, adhesive contact and delamination problems, nonconvex elastoplasticity, fractal friction laws, frames with semi rigid connections, are among the applications which are treated in details here. Working algorithms are given for each application and are demonstrated by means of representative examples. The interested reader will find helpful references to up-to-date scientific and technical literature so that to be able to work on research or engineering topics which are not directly covered here.

Book excerpt: The field of Computational Mechanics has grown very rapidly during the last decade. This is due to the fact that modern engineering design needs complex models which can only be analyzed and simulated on powerful computers and workstations using numerical methods like finite element, boundary element or finite difference techniques. This volume presents an overview of current research areas representing the state-of-the-art in the field of nonlinear computational mechanics. The areas considered in more detail include the mathematical theory and numerical algorithms, nonlinear finite element procedures, boundary element techniques, beam, plate and shell formulations, inelastic constitutive models and contact formulations. The reader who is new in the field will get a fresh insight in current research areas which are of worldwide interest. For the reader who is already working in the field of Computational Mechanics this volume presents aspects concerning the latest developments within this area.
