Book Applications of Liapunov Methods in Stability

Download or read book Applications of Liapunov Methods in Stability written by A. Halanay and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 245 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The year 1992 marks the centennial anniversary of publication of the celebrated monograph "The General Problem of Stability of Motion" written by A. M. Liapunov. This anniversary inspires to think about the way theory and applications have developed during this century. The first observation one can make is that the so-called "second method", nowadays known as the "Liapunov function method", has received more attention than the "first method"; let us also mention the study of critical cases, which brought more attention recently in connection with the study of bifurcations and with nonlinear stabilization. One of the reasons of popularity of the Liapunov function approach might be the fact that, in many situations in science and engineering, and not only in mechanics, which was the main source of inspiration for the work of Liapunov, natural Liapunov functions may be proposed, intimately connected with the properties of the processes. It is one of the purposes of this book to advocate this idea. From the mathematical viewpoint, the century after the first appear ance of Liapunov's monograph has been characterized both by general izations and by refinements of Liapunov's ideas. But we feel that the most spectacular progress is the understanding of the wide possibilities open for applications by the use of Stability Theory as constructed by Liapunov a century ago. We have tried to show some of the ideas in this direction by start ing with our personal experience in the study of some models.

This book was released on 2012-01-25 with total page 142 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In this book, we study theoretical and practical aspects of computing methods for mathematical modelling of nonlinear systems. A number of computing techniques are considered, such as methods of operator approximation with any given accuracy; operator interpolation techniques including a non-Lagrange interpolation; methods of system representation subject to constraints associated with concepts of causality, memory and stationarity; methods of system representation with an accuracy that is the best within a given class of models; methods of covariance matrix estimation; methods for low-rank matrix approximations; hybrid methods based on a combination of iterative procedures and best operator approximation; and methods for information compression and filtering under condition that a filter model should satisfy restrictions associated with causality and different types of memory. As a result, the book represents a blend of new methods in general computational analysis, and specific, but also generic, techniques for study of systems theory ant its particular branches, such as optimal filtering and information compression. Best operator approximation, Non-Lagrange interpolation, Generic Karhunen-Loeve transform Generalised low-rank matrix approximation Optimal data compression Optimal nonlinear filtering

Book Theory and Application of Liapunov s Direct Method

Download or read book Theory and Application of Liapunov s Direct Method written by Wolfgang Hahn and published by Courier Dover Publications. This book was released on 2019-04-17 with total page 195 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The groundbreaking work of Russian mathematician A. M. Liapunov (1857–1918) on the stability of dynamical systems was overlooked for decades because of political turmoil. During the Cold War, when it was discovered that his method was applicable to the stability of aerospace guidance systems, interest in his research was rekindled. It has remained high ever since. This monograph on both the theory and applications of Liapunov's direct method reflects the work of a period when the theory had been studied seriously for some time and reached a degree of completeness and sophistication. It remains of interest to applied mathematicians in many areas. Topics include applications of the stability theorems to concrete problems, the converse of the main theorems, Liapunov functions with certain properties of rate of change, the sensitivity of the stability behavior to perturbations, the critical cases, and generalizations of the concept of stability.

Book Liapunov Functions and Stability in Control Theory

Download or read book Liapunov Functions and Stability in Control Theory written by Andrea Bacciotti and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2005-04-13 with total page 264 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents a modern and self-contained treatment of the Liapunov method for stability analysis, in the framework of mathematical nonlinear control theory. A Particular focus is on the problem of the existence of Liapunov functions (converse Liapunov theorems) and their regularity, whose interest is especially motivated by applications to automatic control. Many recent results in this area have been collected and presented in a systematic way. Some of them are given in extended, unified versions and with new, simpler proofs. In the 2nd edition of this successful book several new sections were added and old sections have been improved, e.g., about the Zubovs method, Liapunov functions for discontinuous systems and cascaded systems. Many new examples, explanations and figures were added making this book accessible and well readable for engineers as well as mathematicians.

Book Stability and Control of Nonlinear Time varying Systems

Download or read book Stability and Control of Nonlinear Time varying Systems written by Shuli Guo and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-04-12 with total page 268 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents special systems derived from industrial models, including the complex saturation nonlinear functions and the delay nonlinear functions. It also presents typical methods, such as the classical Liapunov and Integral Inequalities methods. Providing constructive qualitative and stability conditions for linear systems with saturated inputs in both global and local contexts, it offers practitioners more concise model systems for modern saturation nonlinear techniques, which have the potential for future applications. This book is a valuable guide for researchers and graduate students in the fields of mathematics, control, and engineering.

Book Structural Methods in the Study of Complex Systems

Download or read book Structural Methods in the Study of Complex Systems written by Elena Zattoni and published by Springer. This book was released on 2019-06-27 with total page 279 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Structural Methods in the Study of Complex Systems helps the reader respond to the challenge of mastering complexity in systems and control. The book details the fundamental control problems arising from complex dynamical systems and shows how they can be tackled effectively by means of methods developed from graph theory, differential algebra and geometric approaches. These “structural methods” produce abstractions that fit a wide variety of applications by taking advantage of their intrinsic focus on the essential characteristics of dynamical systems, their geometric perspective and visual representation, and their algebraic formalization and ability to generate algorithmic frameworks to complement the theoretical treatment. The original work and latest achievements of the contributors, expanding on material presented at a workshop organized to coincide with the 2018 European Control Conference will assist systems and control scientists interested in developing theoretical and computational tools to solve analysis and synthesis problems involving complex dynamical systems. The contributions provide a comprehensive picture of available results along with a stimulating view of possible directions for future investigations in the field. Emphasis is placed on methods with solid computational background and on specific engineering applications so that readers from both theoretical and practical backgrounds will find this collection of use.

Book Convex Functions and Optimization Methods on Riemannian Manifolds

Download or read book Convex Functions and Optimization Methods on Riemannian Manifolds written by C. Udriste and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-11 with total page 365 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The object of this book is to present the basic facts of convex functions, standard dynamical systems, descent numerical algorithms and some computer programs on Riemannian manifolds in a form suitable for applied mathematicians, scientists and engineers. It contains mathematical information on these subjects and applications distributed in seven chapters whose topics are close to my own areas of research: Metric properties of Riemannian manifolds, First and second variations of the p-energy of a curve; Convex functions on Riemannian manifolds; Geometric examples of convex functions; Flows, convexity and energies; Semidefinite Hessians and applications; Minimization of functions on Riemannian manifolds. All the numerical algorithms, computer programs and the appendices (Riemannian convexity of functions f:R ~ R, Descent methods on the Poincare plane, Descent methods on the sphere, Completeness and convexity on Finsler manifolds) constitute an attempt to make accesible to all users of this book some basic computational techniques and implementation of geometric structures. To further aid the readers, this book also contains a part of the folklore about Riemannian geometry, convex functions and dynamical systems because it is unfortunately "nowhere" to be found in the same context; existing textbooks on convex functions on Euclidean spaces or on dynamical systems do not mention what happens in Riemannian geometry, while the papers dealing with Riemannian manifolds usually avoid discussing elementary facts. Usually a convex function on a Riemannian manifold is a real valued function whose restriction to every geodesic arc is convex.
