Book Design Considerations of Time in Fuzzy Systems

Download or read book Design Considerations of Time in Fuzzy Systems written by J. Virant and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-11-27 with total page 496 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fuzzy theory is an interesting name for a method that has been highly effective in a wide variety of significant, real-world applications. A few examples make this readily apparent. As the result of a faulty design the method of computer-programmed trading, the biggest stock market crash in history was triggered by a small fraction of a percent change in the interest rate in a Western European country. A fuzzy theory ap proach would have weighed a number of relevant variables and the ranges of values for each of these variables. Another example, which is rather simple but pervasive, is that of an electronic thermostat that turns on heat or air conditioning at a specific temperature setting. In fact, actual comfort level involves other variables such as humidity and the location of the sun with respect to windows in a home, among others. Because of its great applied significance, fuzzy theory has generated widespread activity internationally. In fact, institutions devoted to research in this area have come into being. As the above examples suggest, Fuzzy Systems Theory is of fundamen tal importance for the analysis and design of a wide variety of dynamic systems. This clearly manifests the fundamental importance of time con siderations in the Fuzzy Systems design approach in dynamic systems. This textbook by Prof. Dr. Jernej Virant provides what is evidently a uniquely significant and comprehensive treatment of this subject on the international scene.

Book Fifty Years of Fuzzy Logic and its Applications

Download or read book Fifty Years of Fuzzy Logic and its Applications written by Dan E. Tamir and published by Springer. This book was released on 2015-05-23 with total page 679 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents a comprehensive report on the evolution of Fuzzy Logic since its formulation in Lotfi Zadeh’s seminal paper on “fuzzy sets,” published in 1965. In addition, it features a stimulating sampling from the broad field of research and development inspired by Zadeh’s paper. The chapters, written by pioneers and prominent scholars in the field, show how fuzzy sets have been successfully applied to artificial intelligence, control theory, inference, and reasoning. The book also reports on theoretical issues; features recent applications of Fuzzy Logic in the fields of neural networks, clustering, data mining and software testing; and highlights an important paradigm shift caused by Fuzzy Logic in the area of uncertainty management. Conceived by the editors as an academic celebration of the fifty years’ anniversary of the 1965 paper, this work is a must-have for students and researchers willing to get an inspiring picture of the potentialities, limitations, achievements and accomplishments of Fuzzy Logic-based systems.

Book New Developments in Formal Languages and Applications

Download or read book New Developments in Formal Languages and Applications written by Gemma Bel-Enguix and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2008-04-11 with total page 279 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The theory of formal languages is widely accepted as the backbone of t- oretical computer science. It mainly originated from mathematics (com- natorics, algebra, mathematical logic) and generative linguistics. Later, new specializations emerged from areas ofeither computer science(concurrent and distributed systems, computer graphics, arti?cial life), biology (plant devel- ment, molecular genetics), linguistics (parsing, text searching), or mathem- ics (cryptography). All human problem solving capabilities can be considered, in a certain sense, as a manipulation of symbols and structures composed by symbols, which is actually the stem of formal language theory. Language – in its two basic forms, natural and arti?cial – is a particular case of a symbol system. This wide range of motivations and inspirations explains the diverse - plicability of formal language theory ? and all these together explain the very large number of monographs and collective volumes dealing with formal language theory. In 2004 Springer-Verlag published the volume Formal Languages and - plications, edited by C. Martín-Vide, V. Mitrana and G. P?un in the series Studies in Fuzziness and Soft Computing 148, which was aimed at serving as an overall course-aid and self-study material especially for PhD students in formal language theory and applications. Actually, the volume emerged in such a context: it contains the core information from many of the lectures - livered to the students of the International PhD School in Formal Languages and Applications organized since 2002 by the Research Group on Mathem- ical Linguistics from Rovira i Virgili University, Tarragona, Spain.

Book Fuzzy Automata and Languages

Download or read book Fuzzy Automata and Languages written by John N. Mordeson and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2002-03-19 with total page 577 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fuzzy Automata Theory offers the first in-depth treatment of the theory and mathematics of fuzzy automata and fuzzy languages. It effectively compares and contrasts the different approaches used in fuzzy mathematics and automata and includes complete proofs of the theoretical results presented. More than 60 figures and 125 examples illustrate the results, and exercises in each chapter serve not only to test understanding, but also to present material not covered in detail within the text. Although the book is theoretical in nature, the authors also discuss applications in a variety of fields, including databases, medicine, learning systems, and pattern recognition.

Book Automata Theory with Modern Applications

Download or read book Automata Theory with Modern Applications written by James A. Anderson and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2006-06-22 with total page 3 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Recent applications to biomolecular science and DNA computing have created a new audience for automata theory and formal languages. This is the only introductory book to cover such applications. It begins with a clear and readily understood exposition of the fundamentals that assumes only a background in discrete mathematics. The first five chapters give a gentle but rigorous coverage of basic ideas as well as topics not found in other texts at this level, including codes, retracts and semiretracts. Chapter 6 introduces combinatorics on words and uses it to describe a visually inspired approach to languages. The final chapter explains recently-developed language theory coming from developments in bioscience and DNA computing. With over 350 exercises (for which solutions are available), many examples and illustrations, this text will make an ideal contemporary introduction for students; others, new to the field, will welcome it for self-learning.

Book Fundamentals of Fuzzy Sets

Download or read book Fundamentals of Fuzzy Sets written by Didier Dubois and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 660 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Fundamentals of Fuzzy Sets covers the basic elements of fuzzy set theory. Its four-part organization provides easy referencing of recent as well as older results in the field. The first part discusses the historical emergence of fuzzy sets, and delves into fuzzy set connectives, and the representation and measurement of membership functions. The second part covers fuzzy relations, including orderings, similarity, and relational equations. The third part, devoted to uncertainty modelling, introduces possibility theory, contrasting and relating it with probabilities, and reviews information measures of specificity and fuzziness. The last part concerns fuzzy sets on the real line - computation with fuzzy intervals, metric topology of fuzzy numbers, and the calculus of fuzzy-valued functions. Each chapter is written by one or more recognized specialists and offers a tutorial introduction to the topics, together with an extensive bibliography.
