Book Applications and Innovations in Expert Systems VI

Download or read book Applications and Innovations in Expert Systems VI written by Robert W. Milne and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 289 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: R. MILNE Intelligent Applications Ltd The papers in this volume are the Application Papers presented at ES98, the Eighteenth International Conference of the British Computer Society's Specialist Group on Expert Systems. This year has been yet another "applications" success for the conference with this volume containing seventeen papers describing either deployed applications or emerging applications. All these documented case studies provide clear evidence of the success of AI technology in solving real business problems. Six of these papers were nominated for the Best Application Award during the review process. These nominations were then reviewed by the members of the Programme Committee to select the winning paper. The papers in the volume were subject to refereeing by at least two referees. All papers which were controversial for some reason were discussed in depth by the Application Programme Committee. Ten referees from the industrial and commercial sector and nine referees from the academic sector assisted me in reviewing the papers. The review form asked the referee to score the papers according to a number of dimensions, to rate it overall, and to offer critical comments to me, and to the authors. It also asks the referee to score their expertise in the area of each paper they review. Only reviews from 'expert' referees are used.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: What Is Expert System In the field of artificial intelligence, an expert system is a type of computer program that simulates the abilities of a human expert to make judgment calls. Instead of using typical procedural code, expert systems reason through bodies of knowledge, which are primarily represented as if-then rules. This is in contrast to traditional computer programs, which tackle complicated issues by writing procedural code. In the 1970s, the first expert systems were developed, and later in the 1980s, their use became more widespread. Expert systems were one of the earliest forms of artificial intelligence (AI) software that was actually successful. An expert system can be broken down into its two component subsystems, which are the knowledge base and the inference engine. The knowledge base is a collection of facts and guidelines. The inference engine takes the rules and applies them to the known data in order to derive new information. The capabilities of explanation and debugging are also sometimes included in inference engines. How You Will Benefit (I) Insights, and validations about the following topics: Chapter 1: Expert system Chapter 2: Learning classifier system Chapter 3: AI winter Chapter 4: Constraint logic programming Chapter 5: Constraint satisfaction Chapter 6: CLIPS Chapter 7: Mycin Chapter 8: Knowledge engineering Chapter 9: Rule-based machine learning Chapter 10: CADUCEUS (expert system) (II) Answering the public top questions about expert system. (III) Real world examples for the usage of expert system in many fields. Who This Book Is For Professionals, undergraduate and graduate students, enthusiasts, hobbyists, and those who want to go beyond basic knowledge or information for any kind of expert system. Book Database and Expert Systems Applications

Download or read book Database and Expert Systems Applications written by Heinrich C. Mayr and published by Springer. This book was released on 2003-06-29 with total page 1010 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: th DEXA 2001, the 12 International Conference on Database and Expert Systems Applications was held on September 3–5, 2001, at the Technical University of Munich, Germany. The rapidly growing spectrum of database applications has led to the establishment of more specialized discussion platforms (DaWaK conference, EC Web conference, and DEXA workshop), which were all held in parallel with the DEXA conference in Munich. In your hands are the results of much effort, beginning with the preparation of the submitted papers. The papers then passed through the reviewing process, and the accepted papers were revised to final versions by their authors and arranged with the conference program. All this culminated in the conference itself. A total of 175 papers were submitted to this conference, and I would like to thank all the authors. They are the real base of the conference. The program committee and the supporting reviewers produced altogether 497 referee reports, on average of 2.84 reports per paper, and selected 93 papers for presentation. Comparing the weight or more precisely the number of papers devoted to particular topics at several recent DEXA conferences, an increase can be recognized in the areas of XMS databases, active databases, and multi and hypermedia efforts. The space devoted to the more classical topics such as information retrieval, distribution and Web aspects, and transaction, indexing and query aspects has remained more or less unchanged. Some decrease is visible for object orientation.
