Book Application of the Linearized Theory of Supersonic Flow to the Estimation of Control Surface Characteristics

Download or read book Application of the Linearized Theory of Supersonic Flow to the Estimation of Control Surface Characteristics written by and published by . This book was released on 1948 with total page 57 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Known conical-flow solutions of the linearized equation for the velocity potential in supersonic flow are applied to the calculation of the characteristics of control surfaces Complete solutions for the pressure distributions are obtained for control surfaces with hinge lines swept ahead of or behind the Mach line when the control-surface trailing edge is swept ahead of the Mach line. Useful approximate solutions of good accuracy are obtained when the trailing edge is swept behind the Mach line. Applications of the theory to the estimation of the hinge-moment and effectiveness characteristics of elevators and ailerons are presented.

Book Application of the Linearized Theory of Supersonic Flow to the Estimation of Control surface Characteristics

Download or read book Application of the Linearized Theory of Supersonic Flow to the Estimation of Control surface Characteristics written by Charles W. Frick and published by . This book was released on 1948 with total page 56 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report presents methods for computing control-surface characteristics at supersonic speeds for a variety of wing plan forms. The methods are developed for the velocity potential in supersonic flow and are subject to the usual limitations of the linear theory. The methods are applied to the calculation of the chordwise pressure distributions, lift coefficients, and hinge-moment coefficients for several types of control surfaces.

Book Investigation on the Validity of an Ideal Theory of Elasto plasticity for Wrought Aluminum Alloys

Download or read book Investigation on the Validity of an Ideal Theory of Elasto plasticity for Wrought Aluminum Alloys written by E. G. Thomsen and published by . This book was released on 1948 with total page 686 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The primary purpose was to determine the relation between stresses and plastic strains of wrought aluminum alloys for three types of loading, tension, compression, and torsion. A secondary objective was to identify which assumptions of an ideal theory of elasto-plasticity are invalid for these alloys.

Book Equations and Charts for the Rapid Estimation of Hinge moment and Effectiveness Parameters for Trailing edge Controls Having Leading and Trailing Edges Swept Ahead of the Mach Lines

Download or read book Equations and Charts for the Rapid Estimation of Hinge moment and Effectiveness Parameters for Trailing edge Controls Having Leading and Trailing Edges Swept Ahead of the Mach Lines written by Kennith L. Goin and published by . This book was released on 1950 with total page 102 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Existing conical-flow solutions have been used to calculate the characteristics of deflected trailing-edge controls located either at the wing tip or far enough inboard to prevent the outermost Mach lines from the controls from crossing the wing tip. For either location, the controls have been assumed to be located far enough outboard to prevent the innermost Mach lines from crossing the wing-root chord. The method for determining control hinge-moment resulting from wing angle-of-attack loading is restricted to wings having leading edges swept ahead of the Mach lines. Also included is an approximate method by which the theoretical characteristics may be corrected for airfoil-section thickness.

Book The Theoretical Characteristics of Trangular tip Control Surfaces at Supersonic Speeds

Download or read book The Theoretical Characteristics of Trangular tip Control Surfaces at Supersonic Speeds written by Julian H. Kainer and published by . This book was released on 1952 with total page 76 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: By means of linearized theory, generalized expressions in closed form have been obtained for the characteristics due to control-surface deflection and due to wing angle of attack for wing plan forms having triangular-tip control surfaces at supersonic speeds. The analysis considers wing trailing-edge sweep, control surface geometry, and Mach number for the deflection characteristics. The effects of wing leading-edge sweep and aspect ratio are also included. The analysis is limited to configurations where the trailing edges are supersonic and where the innermost Mach lines from the leading edge of the control surface root chord do not intersect the wing root chord.
