Book Phase Retrieval Using Power Measurements

Download or read book Phase Retrieval Using Power Measurements written by Jamal Arif and published by . This book was released on 2013 with total page 274 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "Optical signals have two basic components that are power and phase, which can be demonstrated in both time and frequency domains. The common diagnostics which are available in the market only measure power component in time or frequency domain. However in certain areas phase measurements are also required. The phase retrieval techniques are used to calculate phase measurements from different methods. There are a number of applications where phase measurements are required like astronomy, wavefront sensing technique (James Webb space telescope), x-ray crystallography, fiber optic telecommunications etc. Various phase retrieval algorithms have been used in retrieving phase measurements in temporal and frequency domains. Gerchberg Saxton Algorithm technique is an iterative phase retrieval technique which has been used in phase retrieval methods. This iterative process involves iterative Fourier transformation back and forth between the object and Fourier domains with applications of the measured data or known constraints in each domain. We worked on developing an iterative phase retrieval technique keeping Gerchberg Saxton Algorithm as the basis of it and were able to successfully demonstrate phase retrieval in both temporal and spectral forms for a) Gaussian pulses having a wide range of initial educated guess phase; b) Chirped Gaussian pulses having various amounts of chirp; c) Chirped Super Gaussian pulses having various amounts of chirp. A metrics system was denied on which phase retrieval technique's success was based showing minimization of power, phase and instantaneous frequency metrics. During the study we found that chirped super Gaussian pulses of order 4 converge better than the chirped Gaussian pulses and also explored a way to choose a good educational phase without knowledge of the actual phase. Thus, this research provided a new foundation for further research on phase retrieval techniques of Gaussian and chirped Gaussian pulses."--Abstract.

Book Advances in Optical Surface Metrology by Phase and Prescription Retrieval

Download or read book Advances in Optical Surface Metrology by Phase and Prescription Retrieval written by Aaron M. Michalko and published by . This book was released on 2020 with total page 217 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "This thesis presents advances in the application of phase retrieval techniques to optical metrology of spherical and freeform surfaces. We explore metrology configurations using transverse translation-diverse phase retrieval (TTDPR), in which translating subaperture illumination is projected on the test surface. The wavefront aberration, and from it surface error, can be reconstructed from measured reflected intensities. TTDPR is advantageous for freeform surface metrology due to its relatively simple hardware requirements and demonstrated accuracy in other fields. Through simulations we probe TTDPR performance as a function of various parameters including illumination beam softness, detector signal-to-noise ratio and position uncertainty of the illumination. We report on the laboratory measurement of a concave spherical test surface using TTDPR, which agrees with an interferometric measurement to 0:006[lambda] root-mean-square (RMS) with certain terms removed. We report on measurements of a concave freeform using TTDPR. Freeform surface reconstructions from two disjoint datasets agree to 13 nm RMS, or 0:02[lambda] RMS at [lambda] = 632:8nm. Next we explore configurations suitable for metrology of convex surfaces. We explore a configuration using converging source illumination and a moving test surface. We discuss a suitable algorithm, prescription retrieval, with which we directly reconstruct surface prescription terms from measured intensities using combined ray-tracing and diffraction modeling. A prescription retrieval algorithm is demonstrated through simulation and ultimately a convex surface measurement using the technique is demonstrated"--Pages xi-xii.

Book Compressive Phase Retrieval

Download or read book Compressive Phase Retrieval written by Lei Tian (Ph. D.) and published by . This book was released on 2013 with total page 138 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Recovering a full description of a wave from limited intensity measurements remains a central problem in optics. Optical waves oscillate too fast for detectors to measure anything but time{averaged intensities. This is unfortunate since the phase can reveal important information about the object. When the light is partially coherent, a complete description of the phase requires knowledge about the statistical correlations for each pair of points in space. Recovery of the correlation function is a much more challenging problem since the number of pairs grows much more rapidly than the number of points. In this thesis, quantitative phase imaging techniques that works for partially coherent illuminations are investigated. In order to recover the phase information with few measurements, the sparsity in each underly problem and ecient inversion methods are explored under the framework of compressed sensing. In each phase retrieval technique under study, diffraction during spatial propagation is exploited as an effective and convenient mechanism to uniformly distribute the information about the unknown signal into the measurement space. Holography is useful to record the scattered field from a sparse distribution of particles; the ability of localizing each particles using compressive reconstruction method is studied. When a thin sample is illuminated with partially coherent waves, the transport of intensity phase retrieval method is shown to be eective to recover the optical path length of the sample and remove the eect of the illumination. This technique is particularly suitable for X-ray phase imaging since it does not require a coherent source or any optical components. Compressive tomographic reconstruction, which makes full use of the priors that the sample consists of piecewise constant refractive indices, are demonstrated to make up missing data. The third technique, known as the phase space tomography (PST), addresses the correlation function recovery problem. Implementing the PST involves measuring many intensity images under spatial propagation. Experimental demonstration of a compressive reconstruction method, which finds the sparse solution by decomposing the correlation function into a few mutually uncorrelated coherent modes, is presented to produce accurate reconstruction even when the measurement suers from the 'missing cone' problem in the Fourier domain.

Book Optical Metrology and Optoacoustics in Nondestructive Evaluation of Materials

Download or read book Optical Metrology and Optoacoustics in Nondestructive Evaluation of Materials written by Zinoviy Nazarchuk and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2023-05-23 with total page 415 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book includes the description, modeling and realization of new optical metrology techniques for technical diagnostics of materials. Special attention is paid to multi-step phase shifting interferometry with arbitrary phase shifts between interferograms, phase shifting and correlation digital speckle pattern interferometry, optical-digital speckle correlation, and digital image correlation, as well as dynamic speckle patterns analysis. Optoacoustic techniques can be treated as a separate branch of optical metrology and can solve many problems of technical diagnostics, including detection and localization of subsurface defects in laminated composite materials. The utility of such techniques can be increased by illumination of the object via acoustic waves at certain frequencies. Hence, an effective theoretical approach to the modeling of an elastic wave field interaction with an interphase defect, and to defect visualization using dynamic speckle patterns, is also included in this book. The experimental proof of the proposed approaches was achieved using a specially created hybrid optical-digital system for detection of different subsurface defects. This book is intended for engineers, researchers and students engaged in the field of nondestructive evaluation of materials and technical diagnostics of structural elements, hybrid optical systems, speckle metrology and optoacoustic imaging techniques.
